I have some quick questions regarding the ship upgrade deaths. If Samara/Morinth is impaled on the ship, who makes the speech about biotics during the suicide mission?

Also, is there anyway to get Samara/Morinth killed on the ship without Kasumi?

Jack makes the speech if Samara is impaled or not recruited.

As for the 2nd question. No, you would need Kasumi to allow for Samara/Morinth to die on the ship because you would have to forego recruiting Thane, Zaeed and Grunt and have Garrus get incinerated. Due to the former trio, you would need to recruit Tali and Kasumi to make up the 8 squadmates (Miranda, Jacob, Garrus, Mordin, Jack, Tali, Kasumi and Samara).

Edit: Just had a thought, whilst I can't officially confirm this myself, I would imagine Miranda is next in line to say it if Samara and Jack are already dead (due to them being impaled and lazored).

2nd Edit: Thanks for the update Phatmarshi, oh well, guess Mordin will have to remain not loyal then.

Thanks for the help. I'd check it myself, but I haven't got Kasumi...

I'm pretty sure it skips to Miranda if Jack and Samara/Morinth are unavailable at that part. The presence of Miranda always ensures that someone will be available to do the biotic barrier.

Ecael, I have a pickle for you. I'm doing an "absolute failure" runthrough right now, so I want to get through the endgame with Shepard dying. I'm already at the endgame and trying to find the right combination, but I think I might have too many loyal characters. (I guessed wrongly about whose loyalty missions I could fail.)

Loyal: Jacob, Garrus, Zaeed and Kasumi
Not Loyal: Miranda, Jack, Grunt, Mordin, Thane, Tali, Samara, Legion.

I tried the following:

Before the Omega-4 Relay:
-Bring Kasumi to fight the Oculus (so Legion dies)
-Jack, Thane die to no upgrades

Assignments
Vents - Garrus (dies)
Fire Team Leader - Kasumi
Escort- Tali (dies)
Biotic - Samara (bring Zaeed and Miranda, Zaeed dies)
Second Fire Team Leader - Jacob
Final boss squadmates - Samara and Grunt (both die)
Distraction Team - Kasumi, Miranda, Mordin

Unfortunately Jacob (that bastard) lived through being second squad captain. And since I need to get rid of the loyals, the only people I could think to replace him with are Garrus or Zaeed, both who would make it.

Help!

Switch up Jacob and Zaeed. Zaeed is not a suitable leader and should be killed.

Yup that will work, although if you want EVERYONE to die... send Grunt as Escort and put Miranda in final boss fight and Tali in distraction team.

The current setup will have Miranda surviving if she is left on door defence (granted with what Xenon said, Shep will die, but I figure if you want a really bad 'everyone dies' run then you want Miranda dead too.

This is true. Zaeed isn't actually a good leader.

The other possibility is to send Jacob through the vents and bring Miranda and Garrus, which is what I often do. Although I don't know what the seeker swarms would want with a Turian...

Just finished my worse playthrough to import, this was with a ME2 Default Shep so Wrex, Shiala, Rana, Rachni Queen and alien council are all dead.

ME2 decisions
Kal'Reegar dead whilst getting Tali
Handed the evidence over during Tali's trial
Wished the Quarians luck in the war.
Didn't do Mordin's loyalty quest, so Maelon will still be working on the genophage cure.
Didn't do Garrus quest so Sidonis still alive and none the wiser that people know he helped kill Garrus squad.
Messed up Thane's loyalty mission so that Kolyat killed Joram Talid and got away before Shep+Thane could get him "Entropy always wins!"
Messed up Samara's loyalty mission so Morinth is still out and about
Didn't go through the relay till having done 4 missions post-abduction so virtually all the crew apart from Chakwas got gooped.
Left Chakwas to try make her own way back to the ship so she is now dead.
Sided with Jack during her catfight with Miranda
Legion sent to Cerberus, so likely the Heretics have chance to put virus in the remaining Geth.

Loyal squadmates
Kasumi and Jack

Suicide Mission deaths
Jack - Lazored whilst on ship due to no armor upgrade
Thane - Incinerated
Garrus - Rocket to the head whilst shutting the door
Grunt - Swarmed
Jacob - Died at 2nd door whilst ensuring the others got through ok
Dr Chakwas - Left her on her own to walk back to the Normandy, she didn't make it
Miranda - Dead under debris after final battle
Samara - Dead under debris after final battle
Mordin - Died whilst holding the line
Tali - Died whilst holding the line

Final Survivors

Zaeed, Kasumi, Joker and Shepard... DLC Power

Yup, that looks fine to me though Mordin might be a bit of a gamble as loyal member. Then again he is numero uno squishy so he'll probably die. Loyal Tali should get saved by a loyal Garrus. I've tended to find that if you have a loyal defence line it tends to be only one potential dead at most.

The playthrough I listed previous with Zaeed and Kasumi, both Tali and Mordin were not loyal. Granted had Zaeed not been there, Kasumi probably would have died too, but Zaeed was there so no dead Kasumi. In this instance due to Tali being a fairly 'weak' door defence person that should give Mordin more chance of death.

If it had been Garrus and one of the mid-range people like Jacob, Mordin would probably survive. Just like Kasumi did in a playthrough I did where I had Zaeed and Jacob as her door defence buddies (all loyal).

One other way you could do it is to not bother with Zaeed's loyalty mission pre-suicide mission and don't recruit Tali.

Use Mordin as the escort, with Garrus and Zaeed on defence duty (both should survive). Then post-suicide mission with them two alive, go do Tali's recruitment, then do Zaeed's loyalty and leave him for dead. Then do Tali's loyalty mission. Current death for Legion doesn't require him being non-loyal so no change there.

That's a good alternative, and I now remember that's what I did when I wanted to save Morinth and Thane.

oh by the way, I did the ME1 run I wanted a few days back. Had to switch Miranda to unloyal, tho. Might try doing Ecael's run at some point, as I don know what is going to happen to Grunt in the tank and the inactive legion, might be safer to kill them.

Why would you want Miranda loyal in the first place if you wanted an ME1 run?

the new game informer issue defenitely makes this way easier to figure out, the only thing i'm wishing they'd done is include the formula for what manages hold the line squadmates..

Here's a couple I thought up that have story significance: Jacob taken by swarms while Miranda's on bubble duty, given their past it sort of feels fitting for Jacob to fall protecting Miranda, especially with how cocky she is all the time about her biotics.

An unloyal Tali as a tech expert kinda works too, since the paths to lose her loyalty involve some pretty traumatic things going on in her head it would make sense for it to get in the way of her abilities, also getting shot in the face mask kind of works there as well in an ironic sense.

Also if I'm playing as male shep it really seems cool to set it up so you romance miranda, then take her into the final boss with an unloyal squad (usually zaeed for me) shep does the dramatic fall-catch thing as the boss comes down, finds the first (unloyal) squadmate didn't make it, heads over to miranda, she snaps to (total movie setup here too), then the two of them just book it out of there.

Also I usually send Grunt as the second fire team since he has some good lines while under fire, and Garrus off to escort the survivors (Although there's no reason to have him die there, mostly just to get him off of the hold the line team)

I need to check who survives out of Mordin, Samara/Morinth, and Legion as the hold the line team...(Also the default no-upgrades deaths work out pretty well I guess, Jack, Kasumi, Thane...thinning out the numbers for dramatic effect right off the bat)

Mathematical formula? I think someone wanted to try that a while ago using trial and error, but it would be difficult.

I must say, as horrifically depressing as that save is, you certainly have given me ideas on how to do my playthough with my Renegade Adept Shepard who H A T E S Cerberus, you though Jack was bad? This is a psychotic b*tch with authority!

I'll kill off Miranda, Jacob, Jack and the crew. Should be a fun one.

Why would you kill Jack if your Shepard hates Cerberus? I'd stick with Miranda and Jacob. And the Illusive Man too if you feel like glitching:

Mostly cuz I never cared too much for Jack, but I'm debating that maybe I'll let her live....I am letting chakwas live, so I get to have fun and have Legion in my party for a good number of loyalty missions.

And a reason for killing Jack is she's a byproduct of Cerberus, don't ask my Renegades really screwd up in the head (colonist and sole survivor background), she has issues.

Also she has issues with the thought that theres someone stronger than her in biotic abilites...hmmm that means I'd have to kill Samara/morinth too...oooo I think I WILL do that, kill Samara then kill Morinth, oh I'm gonna have fun with this playthrough

Got that planned out too, Jack's gonna get lazored and I'll pick Thane for the bubble then take Morinth and Miranda so Morinth gets carried off.

Oh yeah and I'm stuck on the 360 for ME2, my PC can't handle ME2 <_<

Maybe you need to blow up another Cerberus facility.

Kill Samara and Morinth? Sounds like a plan.

EDIT: Doesn't that mean you need to kill Thane too, since he's a biotic?

Good point...Well I never cared too much for Thane sooooo

So that's five people who are gonan die now

lemme think...Jacob gets a rocket to the face, Jack gets Lazored, Thane I'll have lead the second fire team, damn I'm gonna have to leave it to chance on Morinth getting carried off by seeker swarms, anyway to ensure she'll be carried off?  I'm gonna be forced into using Miranda since she's the only other choice.
