Just an observation (sorry for the pun :S) but I notice that the only closed area on the ship is the "Port Observation" section. Does this mean we are in for a new DLC character to live in that room?

Likely Kasumi. She's been pretty much confirmed as a DLC squadmember. Who knows when she's coming though...
