Keeping her alive has her re-appear in ME2 where she shows an interest in Shephard and leaves, telling him that they will meet again.

OK so this is the last person? It was obvious since the start that there will be another DLC companion, since we have a whole empty room for her (the small room next to the lab).
The small room next to the lab is the communications/briefing room, and that particular room doesn't require a person there.
The room that is there yet still inaccessible on the Normandy is the port observation room, which is likely where Kasumi would be placed.

I hope for ME3 it's 3 humans max, the mass effect is filled with interesting aliens, some of which we haven't seen yet, why waste that opportunity?

This is the new ME character coming out!
If you listen over the Illum PA system or whatever it is they use. Kasumi has been discussed as a theif. So maybe she'll be like an Inflitrator type character,

Whether this is true or not, I really don't want another non-interactive squadmate. Zaeed's loyalty mission was short, but good and I got to punch him. Back on the ship, though, not being able to interact w/ him was such a waist. Don't need or want that again. IF that is what this Kasumi is I won't be buying it.
Zaeed had plenty of stories to tell (just click on him to talk after each mission until he tells you to go), you just don't get to have a two-way conversation with him like you do with the rest of the team. Some really good stuff there IMO, if you missed it I'd recommend paying him a few visits next time you play ME2.
Zaeed's DLC was 500MB+, adding full conversations would probably multiply that by several orders of magnitude. Bit more than you can really expect from a free DLC, really. This Kasumi likely will be done the same way, and AFAIK the DLC will also be free.

Honestly I cant believe how many people hear the name Kasumi and instantly think the Kasumi from the Dead or Alive games will be the new companion.
Um, I don't think anyone ever seriously thought that...

Let's see... The first thing people thought when they saw/heard the name, was a japanse fighting game (at least, I think it is. Maybe it's a softporn film, I can't really remember). That leads me to believe that BioWare is trying to lure in the anime/hentai/mange/jrpg fans.RiverRat wrote...

This is one DLC that's not going to even get into my home network. Even if it's free. Even if a patch is included that removes planet scanning and gives you 7 different weapons of each kind. Even if it's part of an expansion that adds 120 hours of gameplay. Don't care. She doesn't fit.
Uh... you know she doesn't fit how?
The screenshots only add to those fears. The description of the character almost confirms it.
I'm not a anime/mange/hentai/jrpg fan. In fact, I hate them with a passion. And mixing JRPG with Western RPG's or western style games NEVER result in anything interesting or even playable.
Right. So because you hate JRPGs and anime with a passion, that means that Japanese people cannot possibly exist in the Mass Effect universe? But wait! There already was a Japanese woman in ME1 name Maeko Matsuo (and she even used Japanese suffixes in conversation - GASP!). ****, I guess Mass Effect is ruined now. Those filthy, slanty-eyed Japs have infiltrated it with their names...
You're either a flaming artard or you're a bigot. Take your pick.
Seriously, what about a Japanese thief named Kasumi (which is a common Japanese name) suddenly makes eveyone think that Mass Effect is being "japanified"? And why are people so outraged that BioWare is including another human squadmember (cause you know it's not like human squadmembers aren't already outnumbered by aliens 8 to 4 in ME2)? For that matter, what other race would they include? Batarians? Unlikely. Vorcha? God no! Hanar, Volus or Elcor? Gimme a break. Aside from another Turian, Asari, Drell, Salarian or Quarian (in which case people would just complain about a redundant racial duplicate) or another new unheard of race that we're just supposed to believe has been there all along (*cough* Thane *cough*), a human is the only one that makes sense.
Besides, there haven't yet been any asian squadmembers (and asians as a whole have been sorely under-represented in ME).

I don't see why people are getting mad over having a Japanese character in the game. Honestly it's borderline racist
It's not borderline racist. It is racist, plain and simple. They don't want anything Japanese in their WRPG.

The amount of ****** bigots on these forums, from homophobes to racists, is just out of the control.
We have some dumb**** calling out people for being 'jews' in one thread and then we have the sexually insecure morons who think that gays are being too uppity for wanting gay romance in the game.
That's why I rarely post here. If I did, I would probably get banned in an hour.

I didn't think banshee's comments were overtly racist so much as just plain stupid. Certainly the reactions to his post were more sensational than the comment itself.

IMO we really don't need another character.. We already have plenty.. What ther ei s a lack of is armor, guns, and sidequests.
Hear Hear! Lets skip the small talk, and move right to the killin'! I could imagine a moment where you come across an abandoned shuttle craft packed to the gills with new weapons and ammo. Garrus picks up a sniper rifle, checks the wieght, opens the breach, inspects it, then dryly adds...
"Thank God for rednecks."

Bingo! Mr. Sphaerus is right on the money. And what really pisses me off is that apperantly BioWare is trying to cash in on this. Which is just low. Make up your own stuff like you use to, instead of ripping off someone else.Sphaerus wrote...
I believe his commment more suggested that he doesn't like Kasumi because she makes him think of the hordes of moronic white kids who LOOOOOOVE "Japan" and bounce around spouting Wapanese phrases and wearing jerkass Narutard headbands.Gingeraids wrote...
Also that comment was just full of bigotry and ignorance.
You basically said "I don't like Kasumi because she makes me think of Japan."
Not everything has have Japan's ass stuck in it., especially when the Waps are gonna full retard over it.
So this is what you fear?
I like anime and I hate those guys.
Oh yes, I don't like the eccentric ones either and I love anime/manga too... Been watching Naruto and a few other things since it was brought to America.
I think the only Japanese word I've actually used intentionally in a conversation is konnichiwa

I agree it was a total bummer that you couldn't actually converse with Zaeed, it just felt so hollow, especially since it's obvious he has quite a bit to say. They obviously planned it from the start, and included much of the information in the game - I say it should've been there.
