Beyond that, I don't want to come across as self pitying or attention seeking because I feel neither of those things. Thanks for the thoughts, but I rather we move on.

Don't worry, you don't. You do come off as a bit self-underappreciating, though...Image IPB

Oh well. At least I'll always be your number one fan! Image IPB

I suffer from insomnia so I understand what you mean, I wish I would just be put in a coffin during the day and just come out at night.

* I own about 12 rifles.

* The most valuable thing I own is my Mauser 98  rifle which was made in 1908, it looks pristine and I am pretty sure it was never fired before.

A friend of mine (who is just like us) found his dream-job: He works micro-welding cracks on a factory furnace. He can only work at night when the furnaces are off. So he sleeps during the day. His bedroom is a "night chamber" with sound-proof windows and black curtains. And yes, he is white as a ghost :D

No, German Mauser mod. 1908 made for Brazil in 1908 at Mauserwerke Oberndorf. They are pretty rare, and in like-new un-issued condition extremely rare.

I wish I had a nice Springfield 1903 though. :)

Oooo  yeah great rifle, i can tell you that. Had the honor of seeing one being fired in 1999 by the commander of our company (You know i'm brazilian right?), the weapon was built in 1995 for his particular collection following 1908 specifications. It's a tough weapon: loud, precise, loud, powerful and loud.

Did i mention it's really loud? :innocent:

Quiet a few, I am one of the biggest fans of 98's, that includes the old WWI Gewehr 98, the WWII K98k, all the german military contract 98 rifles for south America. (Chile, Brazil etc.) Also Czech license VZ24's... and so on.

My favorite K98k is a 1943 BCD (Gustloff-Werke) in great condition, I only had to refurbish some parts like the stock and a few metal parts. I shoot it twice a month or so.
But I have soft spot for the really long 29'' barrel Gewehr 98. Although I only have three of them, including my brazil 98. But oh my, do they shoot!

Thats my brazil champion:

Thanks, got it for 500 bucks, and it shoots like a laser. At 100 meters groups of 4-5 centimeters all day long!

I saw a Mauser being fired, but the one i used was this

FN-FAL 7.62mm, one of the most brutal rifles ever made, almost as resilient as an AK-47

You sir have a great taste! The FN FAL is pretty much the best battle rifle ever made. Reliable, rugged, powerful, it does everything you want. And best of it all, its chambered in a real caliber, not in todays poodle shooter round, the 5.56x45.
In Austria we had  the same rifle, but we dont use it anymore. It was named STG58, which is ''Sturmgewehr 58'. Its the same model like the brazil one,  just with a different flash hider and with an integrated bipod. It was replaced by the Steyr AUG in 77'.

Back to 98's , this is my favorite K98k.  The stock was beaten up, but I sanded and refinished it. No rust, excelelnt bore. Shoots great.

Quite good actually. Between hiding **** war criminals who developed weapons for us and executing people on roads, German engineering has served us pretty well.

Honestly I dont know much about the CETME's, what I do know is that german engineers right after losing WWII came to  spain to develope the CETME. Again german engineering. But isnt it chambered int 7.62 CETME? If I remember correctly its a weaker caliber than 7.62x51.  Could be wrong though.

Yep, the CETME was designed in Spain by German engineer Ludwig Vorgrimler. It later became the HK G3 rifle.
