I'd take a STG58 over a AK47, an AR15 anday.

I believe in the ''bigger is better'' theory. ;) With 7.62x51 I can shoot through 15'' thick trees, walls, heavy foliage, 7.62x51 just goes on and on and.....

Go .50 cal then, man.

What you are looking for is a ''Schiessbecher'', unfortunately I don't have one yet. The lack of legal grenades is pretty frustrating.

IMO a battle rifle in .308 is pretty much end of the line, it gets too big, too heavy and too immobile with heavier calibers. .308 is pretty much optimum.

Back to english. I was issued a G3 as I was in the army; the next batch of recruits got the G36. ;-(

Bundesheer veteran? Many of my friends back home thanked the higher powers for the 36. They couldn´t stand the CETME C they used (pretty much a G3).

And you shouldn't. It would end very badly. Image IPB

I was only doing the conscription army time (10 months at that time), serving in a transportation company.
I held a G36 in my hand, it feels a lot lighter than the G3, the reflex sight is so much more convenient.

Well, when I had to do military service I already got the STG77 aka AUG, pretty neat rifle, extremely short and the 1.5x optical sights are great. But still its in 5.56x45mm. Magazine change isnt so fast with the bullpup design, but man, its so mobile. Its only 80 centimeters or so long - with a full length barrel.

That's my issue. Nearsightedness. I don't wear glasses all the time though. Mainly when reading or driving. I used to have 20/20 vision. The years are not being kind, I guess.

I'm telling you, I really am you're time traveling secret older brother who's now younger because he went too far back! Image IPB

If you are used to conventional rifles, the AUG can be pretty confusing. Its a great rifle, the only thing I didn't like its extremely rear-heavy, if you dont hold it tight against your shoulder it tends to slip. Thats due its design, the bolt and and its whole system is in the butt stock, including a full magazine.

By the way, the Steyr AUG A3 is already on the way.

@Godak, Seagloom and AntiChri5:  You know the solution to wearing glasses is to get contacts, right Image IPB
The only time I ever wear my glasses is when I first wake up and right before I go to bed.  (Maybe that can be my next pic for the DAO pic thread...  Image IPB)

The first time I tried contacts, I scratched my retina. Image IPB

Still, I have to get them, because I need to wear sunglasses AND see. Arizona is about to get sunny, ya know? I really didn't mind contacts that entire time, up until the retina scratching part. So, yeah, I'll probably do just fine.

Also, my eye-sight isn't that bad. I can totally make out objects, it's just words that I can't read. So street signs/speed limits would be quite the problem.

Oh, I have perfect vision if things are up close, but I still wear my glasses 24/7. I'm too lazy to take them off, put them on, take them off, put them on...

We've been here before, haven't we? Image IPB

@Steel Moon - Hehe, that is exactly what two of my sisters told me. Thing is, I don't wear glasses frequently enough to justify contacts... yet. I make, at best, one round trip in my car daily and although I technically should use them for reading, I only do so when the font is very small.

Most of the time I go without. But if it ever gets to a point when I need lenses constantly I'll definitely consider contacts again.

You're lucky then.  I can only see about 2 feet in front of me without lenses/glasses.  Too much reading when I was younger probably....

Doesn't that make you legally blind?! Image IPB

Erm, actually, my optometrist said it'll probably help keep my vision from getting worse, as it reduces eye strain.

But, you know, Steel Moon > Optometrist! Image IPB

I guess not since my doctor hasn't given me those really cool aviator glasses and a white cane yet.  It's not like a can't see anything at all, it's just very blurry.... Image IPB

But even "legally blind" people can see objects at around 20 feet...2 feet seems pretty...low. Image IPB

So far. I started off 20/20 as mentioned before. My eyesight has been gradually going downhill though.

Me too! I developed an astigmatism as I started puberty. PUBERTY!  Image IPB

EDIT: Ha! Did some research! Most legally blind people can only see clearly at two feet! Sounds like Ms. Moon, doesn't it? Image IPB

Well, I've been gone for a few hours (shopping and Olive Garden...wtf) and this thread eploded...you guys!?!?!?! :D

Anyway, I appreciate the though(and execution ;) ....) of not trampling over my thread, Seagloom :) . But around page 25 you guys talked about fire arms. I wont quote it because I fail at life and half dialup which takes forever to load the Standard Reply Page...but anyway...

...our household houses over 100 combined firearms and swords. A few in which are mine. I got a Confederate sword(replica) in Gettysburg last year...pretty sweet....and we have ourselves a nice old AK-47. I'll do my best for pictures but my moms boyfriend might not appreciate it...and besides, he can't take his eyes off Fallout 3 atm....he's a little late to the party ;)

Peace...
