Supposedly it means "Christ-bearer" for the sites that say Scandinavian, or "Follower of Christ" for Greek or Latin; either of which I find to be very ironic, incidentally.
I don't really know anything about Celtiberian names. Are they derived from Gaelic? What does yours mean?![]()
Neat! It used to be that you'd never come across another person with our name, but now all of a sudden we're all over the place. "Ch" seems to be the more common way of spelling it. I'm one of the oddballs with a "K," but I like being different

It´s funny that you mention this, because some of my ancestors were Knights of the Order of Santiago. And they did a pretty good job with my other ancestors of Northern African descent.

The Moors man talk about changing a races genetic structure in a very short period of time. I do not know if this true or not maybe you can help validate/reject it. I heard before the Moors invaded that spanish people where really fair skinned and alot of blonde hair blue eyed people. I have a friend who is bask or however it is spelt tell me so I dont know if it is jaded or spot on.

To sumarize a loooot: Iberia has seen basicaly everyone that has ever set his feet in the western part of the Medieterranean; from phoenicians to celts, germans, greeks, romans, arabs, barbaries (moors, in fact), second generation greeks (AKA byzantinians), jews...
And things get better after XV century: all kinds of americans, filipinos, western africans and even a couple hindus...
But for Basques is a bit different since they were among the most isolated parts of Iberia till XIX century, so that makes their genetic pool a bit more particular.
Spain is still packed with lots of people who are light skinned & haired and blue eyed. Actually, my dad was exactly like that. Sure, far less than in Germany, but not uncomon to see out there.
And the Russian legend of the "land where the sun always shines" is BS; unless you´re in the Mediterranean Coast or the Isles (Baleares and Canarias).

I'm confused. I knew it was Gaelic (I have a character with a derivation of that name), but I don't remember any Greek (or even Roman) gods by that name. And then wouldn't it have been considered Greek in origin?

An interesting story about my name is that my Dad apparently rejected tons of different names because of the ways it could be construed before finally settling for Brian.

Dude that is just to awesome, another really big Monty Python fan here. Life of Brian is possibly the best thing they ever put out. The way they handled religous satire was just so awesome.

While the Greek for god is theos and in latin is deus, the closest I can think is the "Bona Dea" as a close approach.Steel Moon wrote...
