Pot is for noobs. There was this Swiss chemist who invented something that lauched fun to astronomic levels; or at least I thought so...

Anyway, don´t get in that crap or you may end really bad kids; and I really mean it. I had my dark ages so to say years ago and they´re well kept and forlorn in that past.

Saint Hofmann:lol:
Well he died some years ago, for handling with such stuff he became veeery old ^_^
Cant say that for the guys and girls that followed after him  *g

But IF someone states funny hallucinogenic experiences, i dunno if it is comparable
to the stuff Carlos Castaneda wrote. When i read that stuff i roflmao'd

If you want to be a cheap-as.s, oxygen can get you high too. Its widely available and lots of people are already addicted to it, so its not such a bad thing to be an oxygen junky
You can fight the oxygen addiction but be aware of the extreme withdrawal syndroms, you will feel really bad and it eventually leads to death.

Its the cheapest drug available, next to water.

Well, if you feel thirsty and you drink some water it creates a good feeling...no? And if you don't drink water you are screwed. In certain regions on earth people kill each other for a cup of water. Water pretty much qualifies as a nasty drug! :o

The difference is: Without common drugs you can live, you will even live longer and more healthy.

Without air(not oxygen alone) and water(not H2O alone) you will live by taking it.

I know Woldan made a joke, but for crying out loud, THATS real cynism ! ^^

Btw: Not only that you can die by a too much of water or air (Paracelsus comes to mind ;),

Oxygen itself is a nasty factor, because it makes us die by using its benefits

He he; smart boy. ;)
Don Juan, BTW, is a clear case of forgery and how ethnographies should not be conducted.

Well for me thats debatable  :)
Its just how you handle personally different realities and inter-subjective paradigms.
Ofc "Don Juan Matus" is forgery; Castaneda himself is a forgery even! (he never gave information about his past; noone knew where he came from and what his real name is etc.)
Its just a name and several details are fake, but the teacher and spiritual being behind it is a different story;)
Ethnographics? Well either someone follows the rational teachings of the west and analizes everything and all from your own perspective, or -like Castaneda- you become an "initiate" into the other paradigm.

I remember a funny anecdote of Carlos:
"...Lets turn this around: Lets say a Yaqu Indian Shaman wants to learn about the western ethnicity and their circumstances etc. So he goes into their countrys and asks their people different things.
Well for the Yaqui it is a very important thnig to know about Curses and Black Magic; so he will ask a Westerner "how many people get cursed in most of western familys?"
The Westerner will surely say:" Ehm i dont know?" thinking: *what a stupid question*
While the Shaman will go and think: "Oh what a simple mind, what a complete Moron!"

Though you may like the content as much as I do (there is really good stuff in there!) you do not write accademical stuff like this.

Castaneda (I always find it funny that he´s not "Castañeda", BTW) preteded to pass his work as a serious ethnography when it was not. I mean, people like Franz Boas did a far better job regarding esoterism and religious world in many Native American comunities.

In a nuthsell, the problem is not the content, but the way it´s showed; Caesar´s wife does not have to be good, she also needs to look good.

Yes, me no academic.
But as much as i know through recherche it wasnt his problem of being "unscientific", but because some things didnt fit into the fixed thinking patterns of his colleagues, that they started to see this as fake.

As i know he had also many anthropologists on his side and he could even show his field notes to unbelievers (most people still say he had no field notes or "lost" them). But after he showed them, they started saying he has made this field notes afterwards. Well after such experiences it became pointless for him to waste further time on such nonsense and concentrated on his "spiritual"(wrong word for that i know ^^) development.

And this is i think imo the most important thing about Castañeda's work: To show the different patterns of reality, that you never really know, what was/is true and what not; you dont even know if one, two, three, infinite or just one truth is existant :)

Btw: The "ñ" comment is a very good example of all this thinking in personal paradigms:
Like an anthropologist, an shaman, a doctor, a crazy one, a child, a burgoise etc. has his small world and sees everything connected to it, so they critisize everything from "outside" worlds, because it doesnt fit into their realization.
In this case: Has it come to your mind, that not everyone (exiting south america and spain) has a "ñ" on his/her keyboard  ;)
(and vice versa: everyone from outside isnt realizing such a simplicity of your language)

Cut the fat: Castaneda has been bashed because a decent academic work cites sources; where, how and when they were obtained.

If you want legit content, you should be sure that the way of getting that knowledge and information was legit too. That is the great issue with Don Juan; not the actual content.

And I don´t need you to remind me of all the postmoder jargon because most of the stuff I work with works along those lines; but even if you talk about non-conventional belief systems (I work with Satanists; I have worked with BDSM comunities or Neopagans; to give some examples), you should still be rigurous in the way you present your information and sources.

...as a rational scientist of the occidental world, sure :)

Castaneda wasnt this after some years of initiation...one definition
...the other being: he was a phoney, hoax, whatever....

i dont give a damn about the disciplined rational approach (said as a former hermeticist)

... im still wondering where the others are...hopefully we havent accomplished what even Lilith couldnt:
Terrifying everyone! :pinched:

Surgeries suck, not only the surgery itself but also the time you have to waste afterwards. No sports, no weight lifting etc for weeks if not months. That t o t a l l y sucks.

Well, being a couch potato is still way better than being a wheelchair potato, so there is something far worse. They day I cannot do sports anymore is the day I set myself on fire.

Yeah some fire wouldn't hurt, ''Tis so cold in my tent all alone''! Burning down everything in sight should solve the problem.

Hot temperatures are really good for my blood pressure!

But I doubt that setting my body on fire would make me feel hot.... :?
