It appears to me that a lot of people dislike the "Tough Girl" personality in Ashley and Jack

I can't stomach Miranda. I think I dated her back in college, poor me its so unfair that I'm perfect and I have everything I want handed to me. *bleh*

Ya I find that extremely annoying. Miranda is my second least favorite character (Zaeed being the least). She's generic, she brags about her perfection and then complains about it. She needs to get over herself.

It's almost as if Jack's character tried to be a badass, it felt forced, maybe BW wanted it that way.

That's kind of the point.

Yes me too, unfortunately the game runs by the line "Why would you want to talk to someone of the opposite sex unless to get them into your bed". As soon as you imply you're not up for a romance, conversations is over.

Uh, yeah, that's the whole thing. It IS forced. That's intentional.

What i hate the most about Jack is, that she not only thinks she's tough, but she thinks she is much tougher than Shepard ("if i wanted to take the ship, i'd do it")

At that point i just wanted to slap her in the face, nobody is more badass in the whole galaxy then Shepard. Same problem with Aria, btw.

Never cared for Ash as a lover interest (as a solider she's the one that I usually survived because Liara and Wrex's biotic powers were more powerful than Kaiden's powers as a far as I'm concerned) it's her xenophobia/mistrust of aliens that was a major turn off for me after one romance with her that was it. I just couldn't see a paragon Shepard ever having a romance with someone one step away from being a bigot, hell I couldn't see my renegade Shepard romance her because of it.

As far as Jack goes a wise man once said "never sleep with a girl crazier than yourself". So I can't say that either of my paragons would romance her, now my renegade he would sleep with her because he is crazy.

I liked Ashley, she was a soldier plain and simple with a bad family reputation due to an alien attack. So of course she’s not going to be to fond of aliens. Anyone who fought in the First Contact War and especially on Shanxi would likely feel the same. Keep in mind humanity has only been in the same galactic arena with other races for less than 30 years. So her ideals about aliens are likely pretty common. Its not about xenophobia but lack of trusting them. Look at Pressley he had similar opinions but did grow to accept them. Her comments about not being able to tell some aliens from something that belongs in a zoo is an observation. Honestly look at the Elcor, Hanar, and the Keepers and tell me you wouldn’t think that they look like something you would see in a zoo? The Elcor look like some sort of huge tailless sloth, the Hanar a jellyfish that can live out of water and the Keepers look like bugs. Keep in mind that she was also heavily religious.

Jack, I liked as well. She was the troubled youth who had no one to look out for her all her life, no friends or family. She was always abused in some way so she never trusted anyone. No wonder she would hate everyone and lash out as she does. I don’t think her loyalty mission is bad either. She needed to access Cerberus files to find where that lab was since she certainly didn’t know. Going back there to blow it up is her way of closure on that part of her life. As for why the Illusive Man would suggest her as a team member, my money is on he knew about her past at the Cerberus lab. He either wanted her to see how she has grown in biotic power first hand against the Collectors or wanted to try and clean house by making sure she can find that lab knowing she would want to destroy it and anyone who was there. In either case I’m sure she was chosen because she was a powerhouse biotic.

Jack is a great character.. But as a love interest.. No she is to unstable.. She has already stated that if she thinks you are going to wrong her she will kill you first. From what she says she has done that to a couple ex love interests.. You could look at another women in a way she did not like and the next thing you know she is bouncing you off the bulkhead like a rubber ball..

Why? Because i think that a person who saved the galaxy twice, was the first human spectre and killed thousands of geth and asari commandos is tougher than a woman with mediocre biotics?

It's almost as if Jack was put in there because the dark, edgy second chapter needed a dark, edgy, provocative character. Which is all well and good, when it serves the overall story, but Jack's character could be removed entirely and the overall story wouldn't suffer for it. It just feels like the most cynical reason for putting her there in the first place. Everything, from her being female, to the childhood experiments, to her profanity is designed to shock and I expected better from Bioware. I have no problems with profanity, but I hate when it is used simply as a shock tactic. South Park (after the movie) and the later seasons of Family Guy all suffered from this...

That could be said of all the characterse, considering the overall story only barely needs Mordin.

Jack is just way too weird; I didn't have an issue with Ash in ME1 at least and actually kinda liked her.

Hate Jack? no, I actually think she is one of the best characters in the game... actually in both ME 1 and 2. The biggest problem in both games is the companions are not well fleshed out, quite shallow, imho and the constant elevator rides are a pain in the backside. The companion hub system is getting very old BW. But Jack was a nice touch and a break from the sterile conservative or bland and predictable type of companions we normally get. I think she makes for a strong adult based character.

I think people just are not into the cliche I'm a tough **** but really im a little girl inside that has emo problems. If you go in with that attitude then of course nobody will like her, but at the same time you can say everybody is cliched in this game. Its not like any of the characters are unique. Maybe Mordin a little but he's like a mash of plenty of characters that came before in sci-fi.

To me it seems like the people who don't like Jack have a problem with aggressiveness. All I ever see with her is that she tries to be a badass. She's not trying that's her personality. Its a defensive mechanism that was developed due to her past and being brought up in a research facility. All I see for reasons of hating Jack is usually strictly about her looks or her being a B*****. Its basically people feeling threatened by her which I find to be pretty lulzworthy.

As of right now it seems most of the people that like Jack romanced her and the people who don't did not romance her which is a viable reason because I heard otherwise she doesn't really open up and is still the same person when you recruited her. But if you do romance her she is easily one of the deepest characters in the game with superb character development.

I dislike Jack's characters because I hate her combination of angst, anger and punk imagery. I would even despise her character in a cyberpunk game. I think it was a ridiculous idea being asked to recruit her. Perhaps stumbling across her in your journeys and possibly picking her up due to certain things being fulfilled would be possible - but being asked to pick up a very powerful violent biotic who hates and has been tortured by Cerberus for a Cerberus mission is ridiculous.

I didn't respond well to Ash personally, but I would definitely want her on my team going into a fire fight. I did have a feeling of wanting to help Jack, personally, but I wouldn't want to have to rely on her when the excrement hit the fan.

Maybe it would have made sense to pick her up in cryo and drop her off on a collector ship to thaw out.  She was a lot more powerful before I recruited her.

But the other characters are better written and they don't stick so closely to their cliches. Except Miranda, she completely nailed the "cursed with perfection" cliche.

Jack is awesome and she is a easy choice for one of my favorites. I love her story. Once you starting talking to her you start feeling bad for her. She just had a very tragic youth.

I love Ash. Even when I tell myself "Okay, I'm going to save Kaiden this time" I always end up saving her. She's just.... *shrug* I don't know.

I like Jack. I was slightly disapointed that my femshep didn't get to romance her because at first it sounded like it was heading that way but not a big loss. It would have been nice to have continued building trust anyway, rather than getting to a certain point and being stuck with the "Now your just pissing around" line. She's an interesting character.

I adored Ashley.A strong willed good looking woman who is firm in her belief's but willing to take a second glance when someone shows her she may not exactly be thinking straight.

Jack? I just wish we had the option to leave her under ice.two or three playthroughs now and I still cant get into her.Mabey its the initial yuck factor?
