hi. i'm using an intel celeron cpu 440 @ 2GHz with 3GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS 512VRAM on XP Professional with directx 9.0c
i'm getting lag regardless of graphics settings. my first problem was after clicking new game, everything would freeze. i found a torrent to skip the video for the first loading screen (just displays a green box) and was excited to fix that problem.
now when i get past that, the cut scene lags, except for the audio. once i get past the cut scene of miranda and the smoking man, the video only lags on certain parts, but there is an audio problem (no speaking except for a few random screams, music and explosions are audible).
after this cut scene i get control of shepard and the game lags like crazy. maybe 1 frame per 7 seconds.
so, any ideas? it seems like every time i get a game for pc i have to jump through hoops just to get it to work.
multiple problems

Sorry to rain on your parade, but with the hardware you have, you are lucky if a game such as this one will "walk" along in slide show fashion, let alone "run". The game box named the requirements, and the various digital downloads will display those requirements for you on the page where you make the purchase.

man i just bought this graphic card. it's brand new to me, i figured it would play anything currently.
my game box doesn't say anything about what is NO supported. how am i supposed to know 8400 is worse than a 6800? seems backwards to me.

It is the computer industry. Never expect anything to be straightforward or simple.
Sorry your video card is not up to par, but at least you know what is giving you the trouble. Maybe you can still return it if you just got it?

The 8400 was new three years ago, replaced by the 9300, which was replaced by a 120. But there has never been any Celeron that has ever met any minimum; those have always been so terrible that they are always useless for games, about like Intel's video chips. Replacing the video card won't help as long as the CPU is that bad (there is supposed to be a Core Duo-related Celeron, but it won't fit into the same socket as the old Pentium-era Celerons such as this one.

well thanks for the info. obviously i had no idea, they really should make stuff like this more simple for people that don't know jack about computers. how come dragon age is for ps3 as well but mass effect 2 isn't? guess i'll never get to play it. lame.

Never having been privy to a developers' work session conference, I can't verify this, but I suspect that the developers divide gamers into PC types and console type, and expect the PC types to know the basics about the hardware, while the console types couldn't be bothered, they are so apathetic about hardware.
Here are the basics: http://social.biowar...58/index/509580
