They don't want to acknowledge it because it would throw the galaxy into panic. Also, its a story device to ensure you have to earn the proof of the Reapers for ME 3 :) .

The turian councilor needs a cap in his ass...that's all that matters.

No. It's just another issue they had to brush under the rug. If the council did believe you as they would have, especially if you saved them, then there would have been no reason to work with Cerberus and the whole story starts to fall apart.

It’s just the council. The idea of the Reapers is so horrifying that they deny them as a defense mechanism. That's what I got out of it anyway. There's no real evidence to support the reapers.

Do a play though when you save the council and give anderson the seat. You get reinstated as a spectre and get some more info.

Their position isn't totally unreasonable from a detached perspective. No one knows anything about the Geth so it's possible that they pooled resources and built a massive flagship. Obviously the player (as Shepard) has a ton of inside information and any attempt to deny the Reaper threat seems insane to them.

I'm not saying the Council's treatment of Shepard is right, just that their position isn't totally untenable.

Its politics. A government figurehead is not going to announce a threat to the public without knowing how to handle it because it would cause mass panic. The best way to go about handling an unknown threat is to pretend it does not exist, to politicians thats a great idea. Wipe out all evidence and worry about whatever it is when you know how to do something about it in the mean time you send private operatives to look into the problem so if they get busted there is no political blowback. Not understanding politics does not mean the devs "went brain dead".

Thing is Shepard isn't asking them to inform the public... He's asking for help. Which they don't give in any capacity.

The council didn't believe you in the beginning of ME, doesn't believe you in ME2, and isn't going to believe us in ME3, hopefully I get to shot that freaking turian because he's a reaper agent.

I seriously hope in ME3 I get the chance to shoot that turian counciler. I don't care that all my Mass Effect Characters in both the games are complete Paragons ... I want to shoot that guy.

For what's it worth they made him a Spectre again (if you saved them).

Just more poorly written ME1 decisions carried over to ME2, like every thing else other then Wrex who actually made some sense.

Already been said, but they also want to force you to work for Cerberus, the ME2 story would not work if you rejoin completely and send a team to arrest the crew and assign it a new one, strip EDI from the ship and remove all cerberus bugs and surveillance from the new Normandy.

When did he say that?  I thought he said it was a gesture of good faith.

The council in Mass Effect pisses me off. Bunch of monkeys would make a better council than those three idiots.

I said it, and I'll say it again...

Has anyone aside of Shepard, Saren and Liara ever seen the visions? No.
Have we ever brought a real proof to them? No.

What have they got?
Audio and Video recordings? Are worth nothing. Everybody and his mom will be able to shop some reapers in the video of the turian councilor (whos a jackass, btw.)
A mad half-machine spectre, dead, with an army of...geth.
A giant, extremely advanced ship, that resembles strikingly the Geth dropships. At least I thought in the beginning, that the dropships are parts of the big ships tentacles.
The advanced technology? Well, we know that the Geth made huge leaps on that and that they are pretty much ahead of us. And it's not even THAT advanced. In only two years we were able to analyse the main-weaponary, scale it down and put it on our own ships. So no proof there.

Their decisions affect the entire galaxy. They try to support you secretly. They reinstate you as spectre, so you can do what you want. I'm pretty sure they have their own investigators and they are setting up their forces. But they simply can't be sure. And, they are politicians! Everyone watches them. What good would it do to say "Yeah, theres a advanced machine race on the way and we can't do anything about it, so we are most likely all doomed." Panic. Chaos. Super-Awesome for the reapers. At the moment the people aren't ready for this. So they have to keep this up and work on something that solves that problem.
Mark my words, in ME3 the council will come to you and say "Hey, Shep, old lad. Glad to see you. Hey, we have that ship, over here. Super-Awesome ME-Drive. Impenetrable shields. Star-Destroying weapons. That sorts of thingy. Problem is, we only have one. How about flying around and bashing the **** out of people? Jolly, there you are. How about naming it Normandy SR-3?"

They just do it to shut you up and get you out of their hair, they don't care and it's only because you are trying to stop attacks on human colonies even though they think the attacks are being done by batarion slavers.
