Ok one of the major problems with making a game into a movie is you have 40+ hours of game play from the first one to condense down into two hours. You take away Sheppard's ownership and choices from the players and hand it to a director. So a paragon Sheppard would tick off half the player base,  same for a Rogue path.

Then you have barely anytime to scratch the surface of your charcaters, so you limit yourself to a few main characters and their devolpment. Its just to much to squeeze into a movie and not make it crappy.

That said if it was done, i dont care who directs but if they get that channing tatum as the star ill personally go all pyschopath jack style and take out the set!

There has never been a movie based on a videogame that was worth the celluloid it was printed on. It is impossible that Mass Effect will overturn this scenario; there is no director who could make it possible, and no cast that could create a decent film based upon it.

Mass Effect is an incredible video game. Like every other video game ever made, it would be a horrific movie, and it is my sincere hope that BioWare never entertains the level of insanity it would require to attempt to make a movie out of it.

Neill Blomkamp. I think Bioware should make a gamble with the less established if plans ARE to be made for a Mass Effect movie.

Mark Vanderloo should totally play Shepard! I swear! The similarities are uncanny!

Christian Bale could play a good Shepard if they decide to go with that character. But I also wouldn't mind if they made a movie that wasn't based on the shepard character

I think the movie should be full CG. That way they can't fail and hire the wrong actors. They just reuse the same voice actors.

Even though Anderson may look like the guy from The Matrix, he sounds like Keith David. So if they cast in either direction I would be sad. CG solves this problem and if they do it to an Avatar quality then that would help as well.

Maybe straight from the game you'd be right... but using the ME UNIVERSE they could come up with something worthwhile.  The key is NOT to make the GAME trilogy into the movie.  Shepard should NOT be the star of the movie, and frankly shouldn't even be in it at all (except for maybe a very ambiguous mention).

The first contact war is talked about enough, yet in little enough detail for a movie to be made about it with some wiggle room.  It would also serve to introduce more people into the ME universe.  The two books could also be decent movies.

Now that im thinking about it... the first contact war would be cool to meet people like anderson, udina, ashely's granddad, and even foreshadow maybe saren a bit at the end... then be all like "play the games if you want to find out what happens next!"

James Cameron or Peter Jackson without a doubt. Avatar and District 9 were the best movies in a while now (in my humble opinion). Though Cameron has stated that he hasn't ruled out a sequel to Avatar and Jackson's District 9 will probably also have sequels.

Though I don't think 1 Mass Effect movie is enough, it probably has to be a trilogy, and there's just so much (so far) in each part of the game, I dunno how that can fill a movie, unless it's really long.

On the other hand, I believe the fail factor is quite large when speculation about a Mass Effect movie/movies, it could be pure awesomeness or fail miserably and leave ME fans really broken.

I want to say no one as I think with the style of mass effect where you can choose the type of shepard you want to be a movie isn't going to be quite right, you'll look at the guy playing shepard and think... doesn't look like him, then you'll watch the decisions and think... I wouldn't have done that!

But if someone has to I'll say JJ Abrams since he did a good job on the latest Star Trek and for me a Mass Effect movie if they did make one would need the same fast pace and action that Star Trek had.

YES.

District 9 was awesome, and there are rumours that the Halo movie has been revived now he's got Hollywood's attention. He could portray the darker side of the Mass Effect universe perfectly.

Edit: Oh yeah, Scott Foley would be the perfect Shepard.

JJ Abrams, personally. The way he dealt with Star Trek was incredible, and the Star Trek movie itself drew significant parallels while not in thematic terms, the aesthetic sterile, clean feeling of it mixed with the sweeping, epic battles and the sharp, nicely done character interactions.

Peter Jackson.... then after another game franchise movie falls apart he can make District 10

Neill Blomkamp directed D9... not Peter Jackson. Which on that note... it'd be interesting to see Blomkamp given the reins in the Mass Effect universe. He's certainly a better choice in terms of a Mass Effect movie. Also, those wanting a Blomkamp movie with a massive budget should be disappointed. He himself has confessed he does not want a budget over around (40... 50 million was it?) because then it (and I'm paraphrasing here) 'stops being a Peter Blomkamp film and starts becoming a studio film).

It shouldn't be made because most of the game is about Shepard, and characters that you meet(and they could die). If you play as renegade Shepard, it wouldn't be interesting to you to watch a Shepard in a movie fixed to be Paragon. And if you killed someone in the first or the second game, how could that person be alive in the movie? The whole point of mass effect is that YOU can make decisions and that they do matter.
Edit: And by the way, there are so much things in ME universe that you should know so that movie could make sense, and you cant put all that in a movie... If its lenght isnt 20 hours...:)

just kiding....

My money is on Peter Jackson. De did great with the Lord of the Rings trilogy and a Mass Effect film should obvioulsy be broken down into its trilogy like the games.
