Neill Blomkamp with Peter Jackson producing. It's a winning combo. Blomkamp does the dark, gritty stuff perfectly and Jackson can aid with the epic scope of the story.
who should direct the Mass Effect movie?

I'm in the Neil Blomkamp camp. And I don't think video game movies are destined to suck, you just need to have a production where everyone involved likes and respects the material. Comic book movies sucked for years, and it wasn't until the last decade that we started consistently getting good ones. I'd argue that the turning point was getting a bunch of writers and directors who had grown up with comics and understood their appeal. So too with video games.
That's why I don't think Ridley Scott or James Cameron would be a good idea. They're just too old. Peter Jackson could maybe work- he's enough of a geek that I bet he digs video games. But ideally I'd go with someone like Blomkamp that have grown up with video games and are hence likelier to understand them on their own terms.

...then we would have two buttons on the movie seat, green for paragon, red for renegade. At pivotal moments a dialogue wheel would appear on screen and everybody clicked/voted... and then the movie would proceed with the selection of the majority.... it's interaction dudes.....

If Bioware could reign in Zack Snyder and just let him off his chain for action sequences I would predict good things. Otherwise I guess I'll toss another vote in for Ridley Scott. I'd like to say Abrams, but I don't think Mass Effect needs any more mystery boxes.

I hope everyone saying George Lucas are making jokes... Uwe Boll is a joke, so that's a given.
I vote for Neill Blomkamp if it were to really be made.

Anyone who isn't Uwe Boll. Anyone. Someone who's been dead for a couple of years would be better than Uwe Boll.

If I absolutely had to pick one of these famous directors then I'd say Ridley Scott I guess
Zack Snyder? JJ Abrams? QUENTIN TARANTINO!?!? Jesus Christ.

Definitely not James Cameron cause he ruined avatar and aliens. If Michael Bay would be involved then it would be obvious piece of crap.
I suggest never making that movie to not ruin the game series. If they decide to make it, then best directors would be:
Neil Blonkamp and Peter Jackson (they did very well with district 9), J. J. Abrams, Ridley Scott.
But still most movies based on video games suck. Good example: Resident Evil.

The director needs to really understand the IP. Also understand that a lot of the concept work and art direction has been done for them and they don't need to PO people by thinking Krogan need to be thin lizard men with no hump and Turians should have feathers.
I would expect Seth Green would play Joker, Keith David play Anderson btw.
If the ME movie is about the game trilogy forget the first movie being about anything BUT Shepard versus Saren (controlled by Sovereign) and finding the Conduit. In fact all the sub-arcs of Rachni and Thorian experiments to build an army are redundant and would be background filler. Epic movies need to be tight, straight forward and high pace.
The main quest line actually lends itself perfectly to a 2 hour film. It could write itself with some cuts and changes made for expediancy, action and logic.
Put Liara and Tali on Eden Prime. Liara who was studying the first beacon is kidnapped by her mother, Benezia. Liara knows how to decode the Beacon visions for Saren. Tali is the witness to Saren killing Nihilus and Liara being coerced/kidnapped. Tali would escape and flee to the Citadel. Saren sics assassins on Tali. Finding Tali brings in Garrus (suspecious of Sarens activities hears about a Quarian with info) and then Wrex (shadow broker ties). Liara is rescued on Noveria with the location of the Mu Relay from the Rachni Queen.
on and on...
Just as an example. But you can see that it would easily fit within 2 hours.
I would actually prefer a Mass Effect TV series, based after the events of the trilogy. 12-13 ep seasons, each season has a closed arc with two or three eps that are the equivalent of N7 missions unrelated to the main plot. Probably made for HBO
