Would have to disagree. There is no "true shepard".

Each of us have a mass effect universe of our own. My shepard is the true shepard in my universe, my friends shepard is the true shepard in his universe.

I gotta say this is one of the first games where I felt the default face was perfect.

Nice pic.  I always need to play a custom char in an rpg when avaliable.

I enjoy making my own character faces. Whilst the default male Shepard has the best structure and features due to the custom section really lakking. I still can't bring myself to use the default head.

I usually never use default characters in any game if I can help it. I go nuts over character customization, often spending an hour to make a character look just right...and subsequently restarting the game if something is off. And something is usually off since Bioware gives the character creation screens such funky lighting conditions.



I couldn't make a custom Male Shep in ME1 that didn't look a victim of fetal alcohol syndrome. So I used the default maleShep because that character looks good. I could make decent, non-hideous femSheps in ME1 though, so I played as those. In ME2 I carried over my canon maleShep as well as my custom femShep. I did go back and make a custom maleShep, though I still think the custom options for maleShep kinda suck. It's mostly the eye options I have an issue with.

I created a custom shepard and I wouldn't have it any other way, I'm proud of my custom shepard because he doesn't look like he suffers from some sort of mental disorder when he smiles.

Yup. you're right. I suck at designing a good face. Glad I have a decent default to fall back on.

I actually designed a custom face for my Adept Shepard, but it was so weird hearing the same voice come out of a different face I had to go back and recreate the Adept using the default.
