Your key skills are going to be Tactical Cloak and your class skill. Evolve Tactical Cloak into Assassin's Cloak (the damage bonus is huge, extra time is not important) and evolve your class skill into Assassin (although this is less important).

After that, you can customize a bit. I put a bunch of points into Incinerate for Incineration Blast (good to clear armor off packs of husks) and Disruptor Ammo (for taking out shields). I also put a point into Cryo Ammo for when I'm not facing enemies with shields (since it's better than nothing).

I pick my squadmates based on the mission. If I'm going to be facing enemies with lots of armor, I'll bring Grunt and Jacob because they have Incendiary Ammo and Eviscerator shotguns (armor enemies tend to rush you). When I expect mechs and shielded enemies like mercs, I bring Garrus and Miranda for overload. Collectors, I bring Miranda and Thane for warp.

Your biggest problem will be melee enemies who rush you. Infiltrators are best at sitting back and taking out enemies with nice head shots. Foes like Husks and Varren really force you to act quick and generally come in large groups, which strain the ammo on your Sniper Rifle. Collector barriers are annoying, but you can either use a squadmate's ability or just switch to SMGs to take them down... and Collectors are squishy anyway, so you can sometimes just blow through the shield and kill them with a headshot anyway.

When a weapon upgrade comes, take assault rife.  Then use that for Husks's.  You can also cloak to avoid melee but this works better with the extended cloak time.

^ do not follow that advice.  An Infiltrator who doesn't take the Widow sniper rifle is a fool.  Besides, you already have the SMG, why bother with assault rifle?

If Husks really are that big a problem, just spec for Incineration Blast (excellent skill against everything @ armor or health) and burn the groups to death.  Hell, bring some biotics, Husks are highly impervious to gun fire but extremely vunerable to biotic and tech damage.

IMO the best Infiltrator build for insanity is:

4/4 Squad Disruptor Ammo
4/4 Assassination Cloak
4/4 Incineration Blast
1/4 AI Hack
4/4 Assassin (passive)

Squad disruptor rounds lets you and [mostly] your teammates to shred enemy shields so you can headshot your targets.  For extremely dangerous targets like harbingers, scions, krogans, engineers/vanguard, etc cloak will give you that extra punch to kill them.  Incineration Blast takes care of any husks or varren that come at you in packs and is good for taking out foot soldiers w/o wasting ammo.  4/4 Assassin for the improved scope-in and bonuses are self-explanatory.

I just finished my insanity run with an Infiltrator, and this is my input. I was importing a level 54 ME1 character with lots of both renegade and paragon points. I chose Reave as my bonus skill.

Eventually, I maxed out Disruptor Ammo (chose heavy disruptor ammo since I'm greedy), cloak, the class skill, Heavy Reave, and Incinerate (with incinerate coming in last).

For squadmates, I generally chose to max out their ammo skill if they had one, so that if going up against non-shielded, non-synthetics, I used the squad member with the appropriate ammo type. e.g. I used Grunt's Incendiary Ammo against vorcha, Jack's Warp Ammo against the collectors, and so on. I generally found Miranda to be really good with her squad damage boost and Warp/Overload.

I also agree with taking the Widow. It's just too good to pass up. Eventually, I found myself not using cloak all that much -- a sniper headshot wiped out most enemies anyways. However, it was still good for escaping and also good for sniping boss characters. Reave was excellent against organic enemies because it causes them to stop moving for a few seconds, and the health drain lets you stand outside of cover longer.

You can hardly go wrong with the Infiltrator class, haha.

Step 1:Snipe snipe snipe snipe

Step 2:

If (EnemyFaction.getdistance < 10 feet) { use(Ability_Cloak); Runaway(); }

Step 3: Repeat Steps 1 and 2.

Why do people care so much about Husks?
I'm playing on insanity & I'm on the Disable Coll. Ship mission.
I've only versed them once so far & they're extremely easy.
Stop trying to focus your talent or build on one specific encounter (or few that there are)
Especially since the last half of the game is the easiest, unless you suck at shooters.
Disruptor is great for the amount of Synths. you go against.
Take the WIDOW or you should quit RPG's for a good year.
Garrus is one or the best squdmates because of his effeciency. All his skills are good for insanity. (Con shot works on anything,AP ammo is great for Mobs,Overload is self explanatory)
Nuff said

Take out the Squad disrupt & it's a decent build.

your bonus should either be Warp Ammo or Reave.

Take reave if you find using powers fun.

Warp ammo if you take the game SERIOUSLY & are not good

Would be decent if you got Heave Disrupt for Squad.

Take the Widow

Cloak 10 (dmg. bonus)

Passive 10 (dmg. bonus)

Cryo ( 0 )

AI Hack ( 0 )

Incinerate(10) Blast

Reave (10) Dmg

Take Miranda AT ALL TIMES. Max out her Passive to the Dmg. bonus.
For your 2nd squad mate either Garrus (AP ammo for the squad + extra Overload & Con shot) or Samara (You & her spam reave) will suffice

My personal build for Insanity:

Heavy Disruptor 4/4

Cryo 1/4

Enhanced Cloak 4/4

Heavy Incinerate 4/4

Assassin 4/4

Improved Geth Shield Boost 4/4

This build is designed to be a bit more versatile and defensive, giving you more overall options. The geth shield is nice for an added defensive option when you either need to take more hits in CQC or you would rather not wait for your shields to recharge and can manually refill them on demand. Plus it gives a passive 10% damage boost while it is enabled.

One point in Cryo ammo is all you need for it to be useful...either they'll fall over temporarily from the freeze and be helpless, or they'll just outright shatter (husks for example just outright die if they freeze, but are so weak sometimes I don't even bother changing though this ammo destroys them). Points beyond this are just pointless imo.

I use the cloak mostly for flanking targets or moving cover to cover and the extra duration is nice. The damage bonus can occasionally be a welcome addition, but I seldom use it for that reason.

I just finished my infiltrator insanity run. pretty typical build

heavy disruptor 4

Assassin cloak 4

Warp ammo 4

Incinerate Blast 4

Assassin 4

AI hack 1

The suicide mission was rather easy with Legion and Thane/Grunt. 2 Widow sniper rifles + combat drone made the mission so much easier than my sentinel hardcore run.

There are only two challenging encounters on Insanity, Horizon and the Prateriorian on the collector vessel. You need to build around those two challenges first and the rest of the game is trivial by comparison. The Husks, Scions have armor and the rest Prats, Harbinger, Collectors have biotic barriers. You need a lot of cloak (6) and incinerate and run, run, run from corner to corner.

Early game (incinerate and stealth) for Horizon

Probably Barrier/warp ammo, reave to keep aggro on the Collector Prateorioan as your squadmates kill it from behind/flank

class:

- Infiltrator / Assassin (Level 30)

Difficulty:

- Insanity

Collector Ship Unlock:

M-98 Widow Anti-Material Rifle

Stats:

- Level 2 AI Hacking

- Level 3 Disruptor Ammo

- Level 4 Assassin

- Level 4 Heavy Incinerate

- Level 4 Assassination Cloak

- Level 4 Tungsten Ammo [ Bonus Power: Armor-Piercing Ammo ]

Specialty:

- Precision Widow Long Range Sniper w/ Heavy Incinerate Spam

Preferred Squadmates:

- Miranda [ Heavy Warp / Heavy Overload ]

- Samara [ Heavy Reave / Heavy Throw ] or Garrus [ Heavy Overload / Tungsten Ammo ]

Before Samara's Loyalty Mission:

- Mordin [ Heavy Incinerate ] or Zaeed [ Heavy Disruptor Ammo ] or Grunt [ Inferno Ammo ]

- Miranda [ Heavy Warp / Heavy Overload ]

As an Infiltrator, Miranda is key. Warp and Overload are priceless, especially on Insanity. Then you add in the bonuses to squad health and squad weapon damage, and there is no reason not to bring her along. (Don't put any points into Slam).

Screw hiding. If they get too close just zoom in to cause time dilation, shoot them in the head/optic/what have you, and then cloak if necessary.

There is absolutely no reason to ever choose heavy disruptor over squad as having your entire team outfitted with DisAmmo means enemy targets with shields will be left defenseless. Most of the time enemies are targeting you. Your squad can easily stay behind cover and strip enemy shields while not taking any heat. Trying to take down enemy shields yourself with an SMG just means you're going to spend a lot of time sitting behind cover trying to regen.

Also, the only bonus skill worth using as an Infiltrator on insanity is Tungsten rounds. Any other ammo and you are wasting your time. Reave is a decent alternative, if you want something to take down barriers with yourself.
