He'll sign his own death warrant if he so much as breathes on the Mass Effect franchise

this

Then again: I do not want a movie to be made from the Mass Effect Universe, at least not a movie that includes Shepard (maybe as a reference, but not as the main Protagonist) and I'll also explain why: Everyone here has played Shepard differently, some went total paragon, others went all out renegade and again others went down balanced path.
Also, many people have played Shepard with a specific gender chosen, and all those will be "left out" when the Shepard in the movie is of the opposite gender than their character was.
I for one can't imagine Shepard being anything else than a woman, partly because of the superior voice acting.

No, movie adaptations of games have never been good. Don't think this time will be different because it won't. Not trying to smash people's hopes here but movies & games are two different mediums alltogether. They just don't mix.

Almost every movie adaptation of a game has utterly failed, same goes for game adaptations of movies. They are mostly rushed, incomplete or just downright bad. My advice: don't waste your money on this.

EDIT:

For this, I'm not looking for good; I'm looking for tolerable.  The only way I can see this even reaching that goal is for it to not be focused on Shepard, but some other area of the ME universe.  If they want to basically put the ME1 and ME2 story on film, they can count me out.

Eh, Uwe Boll has been responsible for like 75% of the video game adaptations, so it's a little unfair to say that they could never work.

If they can get a reputable director/writer/producer for this project, then I don't see why it couldn't work as well as some of the modern sci-fi stuff out there. Comic book movies weren't working for a while, and look how they are turning out.

And no James Cameron please. I don't want Pandora Effect 2: Return of the Na'vi.

If they make a movie, why could they just have done it on the first contact war? Then no one will complain about Shepard or the characters.

No one but Mass Effect dorks know about the First Contact War. They have to make it marketable to everyone.

I think if you focus on any of the wars they will turn out very similar to other sci-fi films, except maybe the Krogan uprising.

They could do an Anderson story, but he's already covered in one of the books. Maybe... the life and death of Jenkins?

It's not that hard to do a movie on it. As long as it is explained well to non fans, then thats the best bet. A movie with Shepard will fail hard.

Eh, I still don't see it. If it was some generic sci-fi, it would be easier to market. But, it's being based on Mass Effect. I don't think you could pull off a movie like that until you establish the universe. I'm pretty sure non-comic book nerds wouldn't of cared about the origin of Wolverine until they introduced him and snippets of his past during the first 3 X-Men movies.

I think it could be an amazing idea if it were made by the right people.

But I have said it a million times: if they make a ME movie, they WON'T INCLUDE SHEPARD - for the same reasons the comics and novels don't mention Shepard or any canon from the video games.

I don't see why no-one seems to realise this and keeps going OMG IT WOULD BE AWESOME IF THEY CAST (insert ****ty actor here) AS SHEPARD ZOMG!!1

It won't be about shepard. It will be about the next galactic hero. Conrad Verner and his band of brothers/sisters under the over all command of the Council chairman Udina. Seth Green will be back as Conrad's 2nd in command, "Joker". Together they recruit the best of the best to battle the new threat, Asari club music taking over the galaxy. We will see the following

Ethan Jeong as the squad's expert confidence man, he is always coming up with new ways of covering their backsides. Without him the entire team would have been arrested. With his glib tongue, kids and old people are imprisoned for their crimes instead

Gianna Parasini as the squad's expert pencil pusher. She is in charge of filling forms VA-578 all the way to VA-1035A/X. Each form is critical to the plan and she will be the one explaining to the audience what each form does

Dr Chloe Michel just because you need an expert to explain why asari club much is bad. She will hold up brain scans and point out parts and say it rots your brains.

Also in the squad is the local science expert Chorban. He will be in charge of using a scanner and saying things like "yes she is an asari", 'that is a hanar, sir" so that the audience gets to know exactly what those strange freaks are.

Then in the most dramatic moment of the movie, we will see Pressley alive and well, the product of the Lazarus 2.0 project. His role is critical as he will be the main naysayer, saying things like "We can't do that because...", "That can't be right, it should be..."

Their enemies are legion and growing by the minute as the movie moves forward. These include

The evil mastermind Barla Von. He stops halfway in every sentence to take a snorting breath, creating a very intimidating boss character. Even his evil laugh has him snorting several times.

The dangerous Anoleis. The salarian is back with a vengence as he attempts to take down Gianna Parasini with whom he has a grudge. He is in charge of one of the major schemes, where coffee shops popular with young teens will play asari cub music on the basic that young brains are smaller and thus takes less time to rot.

Blackmailed into helping due to evidence of his fetish for salarian females being in barla's possession, the elcor Xeltan later aids the team by telling them of the plot. This also serves as an opportunity for the writers to explain the entire plot in miniscule detail to any audience that still did not get it.

Parents and children of those imprisoned for the teams crimes. They do not see that their children/parents are sacrificing themselves for a greater good.

Is it wrong for me to want to see *this* movie made? After all, satirizing the Mass Effect Universe is something we do here all the time, and it's lots of fun.

Also, imagine if Uwe Boll was given this script instead? One shudders to think of the catastrophe that would ensue.  It'll either be so full of win that the universe will implode, or so devastatingly horrible that we can ward off the Reapers by showing it to them, resulting in mass reaper suicides.

This might also answer the question of why the Reapers keep killing off all intelligent life. It's because any galaxy-spanning civilization ultimately produces multiple Uwe Bolls, and we already know that one is too much. A couple hundred would constitute a massive threat to galactic sanity, and if you get a thousand the universe is pretty much doomed. :bandit:

Then they should not make a ME movie at all then if it's going to have Shepard. IZt does not matter if they get the best director, actors and so on, non fans might like it but the fans of the ME universe will be very pissed because of one thing, Shepard. The female Shepard players will be very mad, players who hate the default Shepard will not be pleesed and it will force a canon, getting rid of the whole "Shepard is your story". A movie that has Shepard in it will do alot more harm then good.
