Mass Effect....the movie?

Even with that being said, I still find it hard to believe that people wouldn't see a big budget Mass Effect movie because "their" Shepard isn't the one being portrayed. You don't even need to get someone that looks like Sheploo. In fact, that would probably be better. Just get a GOOD actor or actress that can look and play the part well.
I'd go watch it.

Well, I never said it had to be about Shepard. There are plenty of characters that could stand well on their own. It just has to be recognizable. Doing a prequel type story this early wouldn't sell well.

It has to do with the personality. People will complain and say Shepard would not do that and stuff. If Bioware is smart they wil not do a ME movie with Shepard in it, it's just asking for trouble. You might see it, but I bet you alot of fans won't.

Even then, I still have a hard time beleving people will be that fickle. Call it eternal optimisim. My preconceptions on wether my Shep would shove the merc out that window and decisions of that nature wouldn't deter me from eating up as much Mass Effect media as I could, especially if it was directed/acted/written well.

I would worry about the person sitting next to me having nerdgasms if they happen to show her face.

Why would you ruin that by making it into a cheap, poorly acted, poorly written movie?

The Mass Effect games are already cinematic and also give you the opportunity to decide how the story goes, what Shepard looks like, what Shepard does etc.

Because Hollywood ruin stuff all the time in the search of $$$!!! So many good games and Scifi books have had the stuffing ripped out of them with the "Hollywood reimagining" the thing is they can't "reimagine", and instead they are trying to make a film that is one size fits all = bland (pedestrian). Sometimes it works brilliantly and sometimes its a friggin disaster (I would say more disasters than success).
Recently I heard they were going to make Peter F Hamiltons Fallen Dragon into a film - I am weeping cos I know they'll **** that up too.

There can't be any Tachni War because there won't be a single human and in any Sci-Fi movie, the human saves the day.
They could make about the First Contact War, they'll have loads of explosions some joke of a sorry plot and even more explosions and big BOOMS just for the sake of visual effects and there comes a random human sabotaging a turian ship whatever and saves the day.
But no, they want Shepard because Shepard is a popular character, thus ruining the game for me, no doubt for everyone else...but thing of the explosions following Shepard and how proud they will be with the special effects.
"Good job everyone! We have 90% of the movie going flashy, 9% Shepard with the hot blue alien babe, 1% plot I think...not sure, but look at that station exploding, that has win all over it and it is so EPIC. We really did a great job. Cameron must be crying in a corner"

I know Uwe Boll was only thrown out as a joke, but can anyone tell me why that man is even aloud within 500 feet of anything having to do with movies? It takes a special kind of ineptitude to make Ben Kingsley look bad in a movie and Eww Bull managed to do that and more.
2 reasons why he is able to make movies. 1: his non-game related movies (documentaries, dramas) are supposedly pretty watchable. 2: he is a hell of a producer and fundraiser. if you can convince people to give you millions of dollars over and over again, you can do what you want w/ it.
i dont really blame uwe boll so much as i blame the source material sometimes.

No, movie adaptations of games have never been good. Don't think this time will be different because it won't. Not trying to smash people's hopes here but movies & games are two different mediums alltogether. They just don't mix.
Almost every movie adaptation of a game has utterly failed, same goes for game adaptations of movies. They are mostly rushed, incomplete or just downright bad. My advice: don't waste your money on this.
when you have games w/ little to nothing in the way of plot or characters: house of the dead, farcry, postal and to a lesser extent bloodrayne and dungeon siege, its hard not to make a movie that fails.
Edit: But if you start with a game like half life, mass effect, bioshock, metal gear solid, halo, prince of persia, warcraft that has tons of history, deep, emotional characters with unique motives, and backgrounds and conflicts; varied and developed worlds then is should be very easy to create an amazing movie that improves and enrichens the universe of the game and stands on its own as a great moive that is original and entertaining without dumbing down the game.
But if all parties involved: the game creators, movie studio, director, writers, actors, producers are all involved just to make a quick buck without any regard to maintaining continuity and respect for the property they are adapting then it will fail no matter how great a game started out.

kraidy's right. bioware spent the last 2 games plus will spend the next couple of years developing and crafting a story about shep and the reapers for us. they are not going to throw that all away w/ a movie that sets up a canon about a default shep.
rachni and first contact wars are a little to easy for a 1st movie. not too much in way of plot or noticeable characters. anything there would have to be made up which if not done by bioware = bad.
any me movie would have to be a side story during the games w/ a squad mate or new character as lead or after the me trilogy and end of reapers. that way everyones canon is not ****ed up and the overall story is not touched or changed.

Because it's your opinion.
It's not an opinion - it's freakin' logic. Have a look at all the extra stuff that's come out since ME 1/ME 2. The comics and the novels. None of them mentioned Shepard's gender or anything about his/her decisions regarding the Council, etc etc. Why would a movie be any different?
If I said "Can't you understand that a ME movie would be bad", that would be an opinion. I'm just using my brain.

When has logic ever entered into some producer/director/writer's brain when they come up with a new game to movie idea? Can you say "Judge Dredd" and "Dragonball"
