Liara doesn't even acknowledge Tali or Garrus. What a rude ****.

Perhaps BioWare is just leaving it up to us to fill in the blanks.

Ummmmm, I could save myself 60 bucks if I wanted to fill in the blanks myself.

If they didn’t write the dialogue, we don’t get it.

Honestly, I think you hit the bullseye mark there. The few (mostly minor) issues I have with the game all fall on the shoulders of the writers, ultimately. So much of the game is great: the combat, the graphics, the level design, etc. A shame minor things like this couldn't have been figured out in the writing development phase of the game. Not like a 5 second greeting between characters that envelops us further into the game would've been hard to include if not for the writers not including it.

Well, you kind of had to do that with Mass Effect 1. In the game's time, the mission to stop Saren took a couple months. You have to assume things happened that you as the player didn't see. Nothing important of course. Unless you want to believe that the whole crew stayed in the same spot. Anyway the point is, perhaps BioWare didn't believe it to be important enough. Not saying that I agree with them.

On a side note, there's not much interaction between your squadmates while out on a mission this time around. Maybe its the lack of elevators? There is a great conversation between Garrus and Tali on the Citadel though.
"Don't you miss our conversations on the elevators?"

11-12 damn characters. To make all them talk each other... I think its not woth the time, if you ask me. I would like to have it, but I understand what happened
Heh. Never played Dragon Age, eh?

They dont have 12 characters in dragon age. Its 8 if you include the secret character and Dog does not really count.
Thats a lot of logistics to get 12 characters plus DLC characters all talking to each other, plus it kinda precludes adding anymore DLC characters in expansions and suchsince you would have to get every single character actor to record new lines involving the new DLC character.

I certainly get your point, it would be a lot of extra work. But, that would also add to making the game more EPIC. Also, this is BioWare, the same Developers that are currently laboring on Star Wars: The Old Republic, which they are quick to boast has more recorded dialogue than any other video game in history. Certainly a bit of extra work on dialogue for future DLC characters, which we'll probably pay for anyway, wouldn't be a problem for them.

It is very disappointing that your pals from the first game don't acknowledge each other. Thankfully, I pretty much used just Garrus and Tali in ME1, so they had a bit of a camaraderie in ME2. I guess if Liara was cold to me, she'd be even colder to people she didn't care for.
Though I am still anticipating Ashley throwing a hissy fit when she realizes I dumped her for the "bug-eyed alien" Tali. If that confrontation does not occur, THEN I'll be sorely upset.

I too think that Bioware missed out on a lot of character interactions that could have been quite meaningful. At the very least it would have fleshed out each of the characters more. I remember I specifically took Garrus with me on Tali's recruitment mission because I was SURE they would acknowledge each other...but nada. I admit I was disappointed.

For instance, try taking two teammates on a mission where one of the squad mates will make a comment during your dialogue with an NPC... Thane's recruitment is a quick example. When you encounter the Salarian workers, in all three cases, any teammate you have will make almost exactly the same comment in their own wording.
As an example of Unique dialogue however, Take Grunt into Garrus' recruitment mission, and the blood pack leader Garm will have a unique convo with Grunt. Actually a pretty cool scene too.
In addition, almost all squad interaction is done with the squadmate you pick first of the two, the second is relegated to very small commentary and being almost non existant. This is even more true in Loyalty missions also.
Everyone needs to keep in mind though, that this was also true in ME 1 the only difference is that we were forced into elevators so it was more likely to hear them talk to eachother while waiting on an elevator.

Lol. Comic strip was funny - all the more so considering the Ash confrontation IS one of the few scenes where Garrus or an old squaddie is acknowledged.

On my current playthrough, I took both Tali and Garrus with to Omega, because I'm going to visit Liara and I wanted for a moment to feel like I'm with the old crew again. So, Liara greets me..... and never says one word regarding Tali or Garrus. I thought I'd at least get a brief cinematic of Liara saying to them something like "Tali! It's been far too long!", or "Garrus, it's great to see you again!". Something brief like that, but..... nothing. It just plays odd meeting with Liara, and she won't even acknowledge two of her former teammates are standing in the same room behind Sheppard's shoulder. Not even a simple Hi.
Now, I'm not a game developer, and while the writers did a great job in many aspects oft the game, I have to wonder how such a simple thing like this would be overlooked while writing the game, because if I were one of the writers this would be one of the things I'd insist on including early on. It's not hard to include a 5 second "great to see you again" line of dialogue towards the former teammates, is it?
Neither does Wrex, on Tuchanka, nor Kaidan on Horizon.

I also notice that the writers do not interact at much if at all in the forums unlike in DA:O, where the writers were there a lot. The person who took the most feedback in ME2 was Christina Norman - the gameplay designer.
I am overall disappointed at the story in ME2. It's just weak, especially in comparison to ME1. Yes, there are some good parts, but overall it just isn't as good--either in the big things (the overall story arc) or the small things (like interacting with Liara.)

The change in lead writer is noticeable, and not just in the handling of ME1 LIs. The whole old school space opera feel has been overhauled in favor of super hero comicbook aesthetics.
And the main plot of ME2 doesn't advance the overarching story of the trilogy one bit. The council once again refuse to acknowledge the Reaper threat, and are just sitting on their asses while the newest council member race is under attack.
You get 19 missions about recruiting or securing the loyalty of potential squaddies, and 4 - 6 missions about the main plot issue of human colonies being abducted. The psychos you are recruiting are the main focus, the threat to humanity is a side issue that crops up once in a while between stints of cleaning up some assassin's family issues or helping your turian buddy to kill someone he has a grudge against. Or helping a crazed former test subject blow up an abandoned and empty base on a remote jungle world.
