So I have a question for everyone on the forums. What are your thoughts on EDI? We know she's an AI who can think on her own, she is in fact learning and especially from her "lover" Joker. We know after playing Mass Effect that AI's shouldn't be trusted, the biggest reason was the creation of the Geth by the Quarians, but after Mass Effect 2 we learn the truth about the Geth and that the Quarians "threw the first stone" per say, out of fear and that the Geth only tried to protect themselves.

We know that not all AI's are evil from what transpired in Mass Effect 2, but we do know for a fact that AI's can still be evil, the biggest example are the Reapers. Reapers as of right now are a highly advance AI, composed of both synthetic and organic materials, more synthetic and metal per say then organic as it stands. We don't know what they use to be, ether a race of alien or if a race of aliens created them, this is still a mystery.

So, EDI. We know she's helped Shepard threw countless encounters from the orders of the Illusive Man in Mass Effect 2. We know that she is in fact learning, towards the end of Mass Effect 2 she teases Joker, this can also be seen when she tampers with Jokers seat and he isn't able to control it. She's also found the name for the Geth construct, Legion from our own religion.

Do you think come Mass Effect 3 she'll still be on our side, or do you think she'll have different views of life as we know it? Do you think she'll start having thought processes like the Reapers and that the only way to beat them is to become like them, similar to how Saren thought? Or do you think she'll still be on our side, think similar to the nature of Legion, to find her own place? Or do you think she'll go crazy, highly unlikely but still, a possibility.

Also to note, even though we betrayed the Illusive Man, some may haven't but from what I've seen most in fact have. Do you think with EDI still on the Normandy SR-2 that he still has eyes and ears, keep tabs on our ever move? I'd also like to point out that it's never truly answered, how were we able to downgrade such a highly advance piece of machinery like Sovereign and be able to use it? She states herself that she herself was created from Reaper Technology. To me even for Cerberus, or the Alliance that we could somehow downgrade and make Reaper Technology cooperate with us and make it so that the Reapers can't re-hack her to reassimilate her seems questionable. It takes Mordin hours over end to find anything small detailing the Collectors, let alone if he had information on the Reapers, and he's a Salarian. She seems beyond anyones comprehension of creating such an intelligent AI, even for Geth, in order for Geth to think similar to how EDI thinks they need to have over a thousand "minds" ether in the same body or in a close proximity to one another.

That leads me to this, the Illusive Mans eyes, jesus christ those eyes are questionable.

/discuss. InB4 TL;DR, Go outside and or log into RL (It's snowing outside so my RL connection gets d/ced a lot), ect.

I think EDI will return for ME3. It looks like Shepard is keeping the Normandy SR2. I expect he'll allow her to remain connected to the ship's systems, because she's already proven her trustworthiness numerous times. I think of her as just another member of the crew, now.

After the end of ME3, maybe EDI could help dispel fears of AI. At the moment she's not public knowledge, but if the galaxy is saved and Shepard becomes the de facto leader of the galaxy, or something, I'm sure her help wouldn't be ignored.

I really do we keep the Normandy SR2. I like the newer one and don't see the reason to replace it. Not to mention if it gets destroyed, EDI dies too. Well unless we take her AI core with us when the ship goes.

Methinks EDI and the SR2 are going to be sticking around through ME3. There is certainly no reason to get a new ship, and EDI's character grew on me. I want her and joker to stick around, be funny, and make us laugh, as usual.

As the game went on, she became another character to me and I really like how her personality developed along the course of the game. At first she seems just like any VI terminal you might use, but towards the end of the game she starts joking and coming alive and then saves the ship and Joker.

I think that if you keep the paragon path with her from the start, at the end of ME3, you will show the galaxy that AI can be trusted with EDI and perhaps even Legion as you examples.

I think it'd be great if at the end of ME3 the True Geth managed to achieve their goal of building their superstructure, and became a single unified intelligent entity bigger than a star. They would probably be the most interesting entity in the galaxy. They could have their own ambassador in the Citadel.

No, the only thing you can conclude from the Geth is that poorly designed AI's shouldn't be allowed to self replicate.

I can't tell what your statement is trying to succeed in doing. Joking around, trying to state a fact or trolling. :wizard:

Why not all three? I can multitask.

The irrational fear of AI everybody in MEverse has is more a convenient explanation for why everybody isn't post-singularity than it is an actual legitimate thing.

EDI herself will be loyal especially since the blocks are gone. In fact I would say the EDI survival depends on Shepard so she would likely go beyond the call of Duty then an average VI would.

What would be very interesting along the lines of the Geth is if they reconcile with the Quarians. Just imagine the geth producing mobile platforms that act as an exoskeletal suit for the Quarians. it would make the Quarians stronger faster, and act as a superior form of there current enviro suit setup. The Quarian could handle movement while the advanced Geth platform handle advanced targeting and combat data. could even perhaps make an effective way of resisitng indoctrination by producing white noise that cancels the reaper frequencies. Will be interesting to see where the Quarians and Geth go in number 3.

I have no idea what you're trying to say with that.

I did write a lengthy argument for you but being that I was doing to many things at once Safari crapped out on me and I lost what I was typing and I'm to tired to retype it, so thus I send you a funny link for one it's pointless to argue on the internet and two who ever wins still looks like a moron. And now I'm going to head to bed.

There was a benign AI in ME, it's in Flux.

Also, EDI is the Normandy now. If she turns against Shepard then she can kill him instantly by turning off the inertial dampeners and accelerating to 10,000 m/s in two seconds.

Are you sure that is how it works with mass effect fields?

I point you towards the Dalish Elf/Werewolf plight in Dragon Age Origins as a subtle hint as to what BioWare will do with the Quarian/Geth plight in Mass Effect.

***Dragon Age Origins spoiler below***

The Dalish Elves create the Werewolves and want you to solve the problem by "curing" them (killing their leader); the Quarian create the Geth and will probably ask you to do something similar, "cure" them of their evolution. Pick which side you want to support and take the "winner" to fight the Darkspawn, er, the Reapers. You've already chosen who gets to be the leader of the Dwarves, er, the Krogan in choosing whether or not Wrex lives in ME1....

At the end, EDI had her freedom. She clearly regards the crew as friends and comrades, hence the shift to calling Joker "Jeff" and so forth. If she'd wanted to, she could have spaced everyone on the ship, but she protected Joker from the Collectors. She seems benevolent, and I think that's at the core of her personality. She doesn't seem like a HAL9000 to me.
