So, Maria, now that it is confirmed there will be no romance whatsoever in Awakening, would you see that as a victory for the No Female Elven Romance cause? Is it an acceptable compromise?
Or do you perhaps get death threats from people making you responsible - claiming that Velanna was the Awakening romance and got removed becaue of your anti-elven activism?

:innocent:

Bloody hell did I really word that sentence that poorly? O_o

Anyway as I was thinking on this there is some of that in the Mass Effect games. For instance this almost always comes up during the loyalty missions in ME 2 where a character starts to act out of their own free will and you have the option to influence or stop that action. But the more interesting thing is that in the first Mass Effect if you meet with Fist without Wrex in your party you have the option of killing him or letting him go... BUT if you have Wrex in your party, Fist dies, Wrex kills him and there is nothing you can do about it. This is what I like, and it actually might be a reason that contributes to the perception of Wrex as one of the better characters in the ME universe.

Hmmm good question and I love many of the suggestions so far.

1) Female warrior type. ( even older would be great -i would have loved someone like Mama Cousland)
2) would love an older male character ( a la Loghain)
3) surface dwarf
4) Qunari female - qunari heathen suggested would be great too
5) human commoner
6) dalish ranger-type
7) anything slightly off the obvious -- not quite dalish templar but maybe Qunari female warrior (or priest - would love to meet a female qunari
8) Caladrius-type. :D Tevinter dude would be great.

Someone evil would be welcome. Something that won't really listen to you, like :
Victim :"Please, don't kill me!"
PC : "Alright, I won't."
Evil companion : "But I will... *kills him*"

This is something I really, REALLY wish they would add eventually down the line.  A character (or a set of characters) that work with you but still have moments where they act out of free will.   I mean the only time you see that is during the whole Sacred Urn quest in DA: O, or when Sten challenges you at Dunwich.  But in both of those instances they are challenging you directly, not challenging your actions in a way that would create real depth.

Highly agree with this!  It is a moment like that, where you are questioned or your companions seem to act of their own free will that adds a LOT to a game like this.  Element of surprise = good.

Like when Shale squishes the chicken right before leaving x]] So unexpected and soooooo funny!  Then she was like  "what is it looking at?"

Or even something equally simple and unexpected, like Sten and the Templar "Here, take this" "Oooh, cookies!"

He was in the videos... you had to expect him to be the returning character, no?

I'd say that a couple of things may be really important to some people.  Dead Wardens/DLC for instance

Yeah, I guess so. I don't find myself in trouble for loss of DLC items... since I don't have Warden's keep and RtO anyway.

Well i figure Oghren would hopefully have only been there for a short while and idk died.. painfully if you didnt kill him in the first game. I thought the returning favorite was Morrigan because yeah shes pregnant but id rather have a pregnant bipolar morrigan than a drunk piece of unfunny sh*t wasting my time in the game. That's why i killed him in the first place.

I don't think Gaider plans to use Morrigan in any expansion. As said by many, it's more probable we'll hear of her, or see her, in the next game.

You can't go wrong with a flirty female qunari warrior. Or how about a shady charming surface dwarf?

A clumsy Elvish bandit? A female human tavern wench rogue? A half-elven bastard noble?

I wouldn't look down my nose at an evil Dwarven mercenary warrior. A human male mage/desire demon abomination? Or pride abomination? An human female Neverran Dragon Hunter rogue/ranger? A human Rivani Wise woman mage? An elvish Templar? An Arlathan (The forest) elvish female arcane warrior?

... That's all I can think of.

well, following the stereotypes of the best movies ever made, here are my suggestions

- The Queen B -> like a female warrior or mage or duelist, someone with constitution and wit.(could be our character)

- The queeb B's lover which falls in love with another girl or guy -> the polar opposite, so if shes a mage, he should be a warrior and vice versa. Must be very pretty, maybe not so smart.

- The follower -> must be a rogue type. wants to BE the queen B and admires her so totally, until eventually betraying her to take her place. will you spare her?

- The new girl -> must be someone very different than the current vibe going on, like an archer or ex convict (this can also be you)

knowing the will NEVER happen, i wanted to have some fun :)

We've already established that everyone hates the idea of female elven romances, so what new characters and personlaities would you like to see in Awakenings?

I'd be interested in a more woodland, rustic character - a human hunter or woodsman, or a regular dalish who knows something of the outside. I was surprised when I got the ranger specialization in DA:O and couldn't think of one companion it would be appropriate for. I ended up giving Survival to Morrigan, which was odd but fit.

I’d also be interested in interacting more with surface dwarves outside of the buy/sell screen. They’re apparently as numerous as underground dwarves, but only exist on the fringes of society. Have they created their own culture?

The qunari heathens would be interesting, because I never quite figured out what Sten was going on about.

Lastly, I’d be interested in a Ferelden freeman. It was odd, but in Origins, we never have any idea how the average person in Ferelden thinks or what opinions they have. Half the companions are from other lands, two of them are mages, and then there’s the bastard son of the king raised by nobility before being sent to the Templars.

What I’m saying is that it would be nice to have a sort of salt-of-the-earth character.

I don't care about heir personalities since you won't be able to romance them so just buddies for bashing mobs imo.

I'm on the fence about party member interjection into how the story plays out. Depends on how it's implemented. I'll use ME2 as a forinstance, since I just played it recently. Playing through as a renegade, very first planet where you run into the Quarians. The renegade option is to say something along the lines of "So you want me to put my ass on the line while you make off with whats his face?" To which Jacob says, "well actually we are better equiped to handle the situation commander" , To which....my own personal "renegade" responce would have been "excuse me? Who's in charge here? You have two options, do what I say and like it, or start looking for a shack here to call home" But for some reason your char has no responce to this, just sort of DUR, ok we'll do what you say.

In other words, I don't mind them piping in and interfering, as long as i get to smack them around for it.

1) Qunari Tal'Vashoth character. Preferably female, because of the taboo factor, though they could also make an interesting male character. Sten's views change somewhat at the end of the journey because he is exposed to a way of life that is different from the Qun.

I know that this likely won't happen, as we haven't seen any Qunari in the trailers.

A philosopher or someone with heretical views with a background of being prosecuted by the chantry would be nice. Her/his background could give such a character skill necessary to be useful (a magical researcher, an archeologist with rogue like qualities, or just a really buff philosopher who could fill in for a warrior--Plato wrestled after all). I could imagine some of the side quests would be quite interesting---trying to get evidence to support or disprove her/his theory. Ethical dilemmas about letting the information go public.

I also think it would be interesting to have a shape changer class--not just a small line for mages, but many options with different paths.

I would like to have some true badass. Someone so awesome that my PC just couldn't even compete with them. I want my somewhat cool human noble to look like a pathetic mouse in comparison. They would act brashly and independently and wouldn't be at all respectful of my character's position as the Commander of the Grey Wardens. They would talk back, badmouth me and make me feel like a wimp. They would have numerous cutscenes of badassery and they'd need a completely awesome VA.

A male human based on my personality. Go through all of my posts and can see my personality easily. Sarcasm is most obvious in my posts.

Qunaris ftw ...I found Sten an interesting character.   He likes to push your buttons to see if you can take it.  hehe :D

He also has a very dry sense of humour,  I am wondering if other Qunari are similar, and especially..isn't it about time we saw a Qunari female?  :)    Or visited the islands where the Qunari live.   I would love some tea and incense..:D

Oh and I'd bring lots of cookies on my visit.  LOL

I would like to play a TRUE bloodmage..where there are actual repercussions for being one, where the Templars try to hunt you down and capture you.    That is the part that is missing for me...well amongst a few things.

I'd like to play the part of a darkspawn.....to see it from their view of things.

I always found there were too few choices in the creation screen relating to race/class.

But then again, I'm an ex-MMO player........hehe

The Craftsman, Genlock Rogue

Much like The Architect, The Craftsman was born different from other Darkspawn, able to resist the call of the Old Gods. The Architect and The Craftsman were drawn to each other early in life, and were companions for a time. Eventually, The Craftsman began to raise objections to The Architect's plans, and the The Architect chose to imprison The Craftsman in a forgotten dwarven Thaig. Trapped, The Craftsman studied the various tomes and items left by the dwarves, becoming adept at lockpicking, trap removal, and enchanting. He was also able to hone his fighting techniques while dealing with deepstalkers, giant spiders, and other dangers of the Deep Roads. Recently, he has used his knowledge of dwarven tunneling techniques to escape his imprisonment. Now, he has come to the surface, seeking to end The Architect plans, and The Architect himself.

-Very High Cunning

-Starts with Device Mastery and Lethality

-Can change Enchantments anytime he's with you

-Despises his fellow Darkspawn

-Fascinated with Dwarves
