What's the story about?

It's been brought up before, but I was curious to know other people's thoughts on sinvraal's interpretation of the Legion platform as seen in her fanfic here.

I initially liked it very much, and I still love the actual dialogue. But as I thought about how Geth programs worked, I realized she had developed each program with its own distinct function and personality within one shell. Whereas I felt each program lacks such self-awareness, which is why a single Geth is said to be little more than a VI that gains the ability of an AI through networking.

Also, as much as I enjoyed picking my program number and function during this thread, I'm not entirely sure how program functions work. I imagine the Quarians built Geth with very specialized functions: this one works the mines, this one works sewer maintenance, this one provides *ahem* nerve stimulation... Does each program then provide its own specific code expertise to the network?

I also imagine the Geth are continuing to write new programs. Ones that formulate pi. Others that work on the details of building something akin to a dyson sphere. Others that work on the ultimate troll against the salarians. I wonder if they work within the confines of existing code or if they've reached an innovative state where they can actually modify and evolve existing code into something unique.

I think that each runtime probably has a specific function or "job", but like you said, they don't each have a "personality". I don't think they would behave as shown in that fanfic, more like exchanging data to come to a conclusion and offering hypothesis depending on their function, but not in the way we think of it.

I always imagined any further development between Legion and Tali is a healthy amount of mutual respect, but never reaching the stage of friendship. I've had my share of nemeses where over time we came toward an understanding, a respect, and a decent working relationship. At a glance, you'd think we were completely cool with each other. But in reality, that's as far as it ever went. There was no going to the movies together.

Really? Ive always seen Legion as passive while Tali as the aggressor. Legion doesnt strike me as the kind of person to cause trouble for Tali on purpose. Tali on the otherhand, has this deep-seeded hatred for Geth.  Legion imho already respects and cares for Tali, its just that Tali doesnt and I guess will never show that same level of understanding.

Meh. From the dialogue legion and tali hav, it sounds lik he's just waiting for the consensus on a war on the quarians...mite b a problem in ME3...also get better soon Kikai!

He sounds somewhat indifferent to me. If no one tries to attack, 's all cool. If someone tries to attack, the Geth will respond... probably with a seemingly disproportionate response. But he doesn't advocate one or the other, simply states what the Geth would do in either situation.

So, I heard a rumor that in ME3 you were going to have certain positions that you would need to fill by selecting between some of the squad members/people you know now. Like for a tech person you could choose between Tali or Legion, etc., and this would affect how things go down in the game.



Anyone else hear of this rumor?
