Well that is if you want him as a squadmember. It does take the weight off it. But really I don't expect Bioware to pour a lot of resources into a squadmate some people may not even possibly get to see.
You realize the fundamental assumption underlying this logic is that players will only play the game once with a single imported save?
The underlying assumption is they want people to buy ME3 that didnt play 2.
If Bioware was operating under the logic that all people buying the game were hardcorists who did everything right. Wrex would have likely been a squad member.
I wouldn't be so sure about that. The idea here is that they won't give us squad members when the players don't know who they are, right?
Then explain Kaidan in the first game? There was never any explanation of his presence, no recruitment mission, just "he's on the ship and always has been." Everyone was new to Mass Effect for the first game and nobody cared about that little detail.
Anyways, off-topic. I totally support more Legion.

looking at the various support threads with 100+ pages, and this one with 3 pages, its a sad day when kadian alenko has gotten a fast number more followers then legion.

Here's a snippet of something I wrote on another thread. I thought it would be worthwhile to repost it, just to see what others thought of Legion's background story, his purpose for being built, and the results of his mission.
Re: Legion and the N7 armor - There is a very slight possibility that Legion is an envoy or puppet of some greater part of the True Geth network, though he himself may not be aware of it. His platform contains at least ten times the number of processes in the average Geth unit, most likely to ensure survival throughout his entire mission. He also
performed "field repair" upon himself with a piece of N7 armor, yet there is "no data available" to support his choice. The answer could have easily been as simple as "it provided more protection than the soda can I found earlier" (you get the idea), or even "to draw Shepard-Commander's attention should we ever meet". Yet, the 1183 processes in his platform couldn't come up with an answer. It seems to me that this action - using the N7 plating where the branding was meant to be readily visible, ie. the shoulder - was already predetermined in his programming.
Also, even though the Geth use an FTL network, Legion's platform is not given the information about the virus until you're actually on the old Quarian station. Furthermore, 573 are in favor of rewriting the Heretics, versus 571. That's enough to make some players think that, regardless of being Renegade or Paragon, Legion *wants* to rewrite the Heretics, and therefore that option should be chosen.
Of course, I'm just reading into every possible detail I can think of. Nonetheless, I'm hoping this funky robot has a great purpose to serve in ME3. I can't wait to see what BioWare does with him.
