Has anyone been successful in modding this game?
I was immensely saddened when they didn't release a modding program, like they did with Dragon Age.
Modifying the .ini configuration files doesnt seem to work, or the program goes crazy and won't work at all. Not that I've tried that. Ahem. Right.
At the very least, someone make a mod that makes the opening cinematic skippable! It was good the 1st time...ok the 2nd...on the fourth time, it was vastly irritating.
Thoughts?

Quoted from Lessthan3's Message to me, which has proved extremely helpful.
"You can mod the ini called coalesced.ini as long as you keep the character numbers the same.
I suggest using Notepad++ which has a tracker at the bottom that tells you everything.
It needs to be 556110 characters at all times.
Besides that, you also need to keep each segment of the ini file balanced, you can't add a letter or number at the top and remove one at the bottom to balance it, you need to do it in the same segment or column.
We discussed it in the Fix/Tweak Guide to PC Issues post, in the ME1 PC Technical Support forum.
Feel free to post this info in your modding thread so other people learn to modify the game too.
Some useful things to search for:
LoadOut - You will get to a few lines that determine what kind of weapons each class uses, here you can remove or add weapons to different classes, adept with assault rifle, remove the heavy weapons, etc etc.
Of course you'll need to place the removed lines somewhere else to keep the balance, I suggest pawning everything you don't want on a class you'll never use.
So I dumped everything on the engineer class.
fzoom - This isn't specific, but it takes you immediately to the shotgun part of the weapons section of the ini, from here you can scroll up and down to find the weapon you want to modify and change damage values etc. or even add infinite ammo, you'll still have to reload, you just get infinite heat sinks or whatever they're called.
I haven't found any way to switch powers for the classes, there are two sections but altering them is pointless and doesn't change anything ingame.
DLC weapons are stored in separate ini files, but those can't be modified or else the game won't recognize them, even if you do everything right, it will disable those weapons on startup."
