So I am going to be playing through ME 1 again to make some diff choices to carry into ME 2. This time I am thinking about making  a femshep instead of a male. Is it not considered weird for a dude to do this? haha, I think it will be something diff to make the playthrough a little dif for me.

I never did, i know most of the dialogue is the same, but i Just can't play that role, and its hard to get into a story when you could never imagine yourself as the main character. But i wouldnt think its weird for a male to have a female char or the other way round.

It's no more weird than a guy watching Ultraviolet or Resident Evil.

Weird for a guy to play a game with female main character? Really? So I take it you never played Tomb Raider?

This is actually half the reason I have trouble playing MShep.  Even though I'm a dude, I'm not a super manly big strong dude.  My girlfriends usually call me 'pretty'.  As a result, the fact that the only MSheps I am capable of making are big GWAAAAR dudes makes  it really hard to put myself in their shoes.  Like, being the same gender makes it JUST the same enough that the differences bother me.

It's impossible to make a 'pretty boy' Shepard, as that even with the most 'effeminate' facial features he still has nasal labial lines that could better be described as facial canyons, just as a for instance.

On the other hand, if it's an entirely different gender it's different enough that I have an easier time just playing the 'character'.

I guess this would be like the characterization version of the uncanny valley or something.

Beyond that, however, I really prefer Jennifer Hale's voice acting, and FemShep's animations to Mark Meer and MShep's animations.

I think he means roleplay a female as opposed to just playing.

Anyway, I don't think anyone would hold it against you if you did that. Lots of guys play women and vice versa. Video games are a form of escapism- if you want to escape into the mind of a badass, non-sexualized female space marine then that's your prerogative.

Besides, Hale's got a great voice. It'd be a shame not to use it.

I played ME1 as femshep and I quite enjoyed it. In fact, my PC in DAO is a female city elf rogue. I bet I make female PCs >75% of the time. Hell, I even drove Princess Peach in Mario Cart. I will not even attempt to psychoanlyze what that says about me, but I'm comfortable in my own skin, and you should be to. Femshep FTW!

haha sweetness indeed!

and i dont think its weird at all for a dude to play a chic. I think its kinda cool bc we can make our own hotties. But not being able to kinda put yourself in those shoes does kinda suck like previously mentioned

And if you are going to stare at someone's behind for 30+ hours, better be a feminine behind :innocent:

I found both ME voice actors too be about equal, that being said, there not the absolute best ive heard in a game or even ME itself, many of the other voice actors I find are considerably more believable (especially garrus).and who needs to look at femshep's ass when you've got mirandas taking half your screen!

I don't see the big deal really. FemShep doesn't act like a girly girl that it's hard for a guy to play as her. You don't need to pursue romances with male characters if it just seems odd to you. I've only played ME as FemShep and love it. Voice acting is fantastic and her nice behind doesn't hurt either.

I pretty much w/o exception windup playing at least one playthrough of any RPG w/ a female PC. Many times the female PCs wind up being my favorite characters, even if I do wind up playing them as cliched bad ass, tough chick, femme fatales most of the time.  Most of the time, the female PCs are written as hard ass tough chicks anyway so it's not really much of a stretch.

This probably has something to do with it as well

It's no weirder than a female playing a male playthrough IMO.

VO quality makes me have two femsheps and one manshep. As simple as that, if there is going to be a voice, I choose the best one most of the cases.

Then I mold my character around that.

I'm a guy, and I've played both. Since KOTOR though, I've played more female characters, why? Because I'm a guy and have no problem staring at a woman all day. That's the simple answer. Second is that I have a lot of respect for powerful female characters, Ripley, Sarah Connor, etc.
Third, while a lot of people roleplay as Shepard, I sometimes think of myself as the male crew member being hit on by this hot chick. That's the beauty of roleplaying, you can be whomever you want.

Oh yeah, and Hale is a better voice actor IMO. So that's why I do it.

Just think about this:

Is it more wierd that you want your hero to be female than male? I don't think so. Most of the time you look at his or her butt, so one actually has to wonder if it is not weird to prefer to look at the a guy's butt all the time :)

As people said before me it is an insecurity thing. What will people think about me? Does it mean I am not a man? Does it mean I am homosexual? No, it means nothing. It only means that you play the game the way you want to.

If it helps, try not to identify with Shepard so much. He or she is just a hero like in a book or movie, just interactive.
Gots nothing to do with you or who you are. Personally though I have to say I played FemShep even at first playthrough in ME ... which maybe was a mistake. Since I really liked her and ever since playing a male Shepard feels wrong since he is not the 'real' Shepard. Yes, you heard right, in my book Shepard is female. And hot ;).

I am a guy, and I have a Fem Shep.

Also, thank you Mr Himura for changing your portrait. I thought you were a hot female elf before.

... That is a joke. But seriously, she was cute.
