I heard alot of people saying that guys should play guys and vice versa. But I think you can play whoever you want.
I always have a female main character in a game where you can choose. Fallout 3, TES:3 Morrowind, TES:4 Oblivion, Jedi Knight: JA. Only Mass effect 1 and 2 I had a male one. I did that because thats the only game I have where you can romance someone.

Online games are different though. I played female characters once. How many people actually wanted to hit on me was kinda disturbing. Since then, only male characters for me in online games.

This is exactly what I did and how I feel.

Although, I played Revan as a guy first, and honestly, felt Revan as a woman was a better fit. I also played The Exile as a male as I thought he was a better fit... and well, I really couldn't pass up Brianna.

Yeah, I played as a female elf in Perfect World International... needless to say I don't play MMO's anymore. Too much... drama.

I prefer FemShep. One thing that really bugs me about male is that Mark Meer reads each line of dialogue like he is starting a new conversation.

You sir get a gold star and are correct but I still find juvenile someone has to ask about the psychological arguements behind choosing to play a female avatar. Maybe we need to setup a "why dudes play females anonymous" thread so all those who are confused can form a support group

I usually play as FemShep, because if I'm going to be staring at a character for 40+ hours, it might as well be a good looking character.

Yea. I've seen a lot worse but I gotto agree with drkl0rd2000 too.

Why do these threads always seem to have an underlying feel of adolecent ewww girls have cooties or some kind of h-phobic vibe to them?

i played walkthroughs with both Male and Female shepards and not once did i think it was weird.
matter of fact my Femshep looked like my Wife, so it was kinda cool seeing the Lady of the House crush opponents with her mighty Biotics lol:pinched:

I don't see the big deal really. FemShep doesn't act like a girly girl that it's hard for a guy to play as her. You don't need to pursue romances with male characters if it just seems odd to you. I've only played ME as FemShep and love it. Voice acting is fantastic and her nice behind doesn't hurt either.

Same exact  reasoning for me. That and I could never make a male Shep I was happy with.

I don't know really, wouldn't harm for even Bioware to read it. You know in worst case discussions open minds and people start getting a clue. And it is a valid one imo. For example I read Tali would show Shepard her face and I waited for it but ... only for male Shepard. I only played MaleShep in ME2 because of that. Which is retarded imo.

I'm a guy, but in nearly every game I have played where we are given a choice between a male and a female avatar, I have chosen a female. For me, it's a matter of aesthetics (a habit born from MMO's). Let's face it (pun slightly intended), the majority of male avatars in games are grizzled, wrinkled, middle-aged, and predominantly ugly. If I'm going to play a game with decent graphics, I want my own character to look at least as good as some of the NPCs. With the exception of the Mass Effect series and DAO, I've never seen a decent-looking male character that I was actually proud to develop in the game world. For example, 9 out of my 12 avatars in WoW are female simply because, aging game engine aside, everything else was just terrible to look at. I suppose Mass Effect and DAO are unique, in that the player can not only create a look that's completely fantastic, but also one that's at least partially similar to their own facial features (which is what I did for my male Shepard).

Why would it be weird to play a female, when your alone in your home?
Their are plenty of games where you HAVE to play a female main character. No one complains about those

• Metroid
• American Mgee's Alice
• Ms. PacMan
• King's quest
• No One Lives Forever
• Tomb Raider
• Blood Rayne
• Beyond Good and Evil
• Perfect Dark
• Portal
• Resident Evil 1,2,3

And noe of those games came out do badly

To be complely honest, and I don't mean to be cruel. there is no reason whatsoever you should have any issues with playing a female character in a single player video game.
I could understand this coming from a game like WoW or Everquest where you have to play with other people, and it can get weird real quick if you play a female character.
On the other hand I know a lot of guys who refuse to play male characters in MMO's and single player games (if they have a choice), because they don't want to look at some guy's ass all day!
