Claymore Shotgun only for Grunt??

Okay so I just got Grunt, and researched the Claymore Shotgun right after I got him awake from his Test Tube thing and settled in. Now I could of sworn I had seen mention of many Vanguard players talking about using this Shotgun, but when I went to arm my Shepard with it I currently lack the option. Was I some how miss in formed? Or does Shepard get his later down the road?

Later down the road. When pressed with the option, elect for advanced training in shotguns rather than training in assault rifles or sniper rifles.

Okay thank you for that! Also, what kind of Vanguard would want to use anything but advanced Shotgun training? Charge in and blow there top from there bottom is kind of the Vanguard creed.
