I completed the game in 18 hours with doing all the side quests and full missions.

I did about 10 mins of scanning the planets and got bored, I decided that I was going to do enough that was needed to get me through the game. I didn't enjoy the scanning and I saw no point to it in the game apart from finding the side missions.

I found the game very short and lacking in depth story like the first game. I was also anoyed at the lack of ME1 import choices. E-mails and a random character from ME1 saying hi every so often doesn't do any of the games justice.

Bologna!!!
I really dont think anybody is going to belive that.

less than 20 hours is impossible (i guess if you skip everything else but the side missions and main mision its possible)

I didnt scan anything on my second playthough due to the import bonus from ME1 and the long service medal from ME2 and i still had about 30 hours in playthrough time.

If you skip all the dialogue, cut-scenes and keep exploration and mining to a minimum...and, if you know where to go and what to do everywhere....and, you have the game at the lowest difficulty setting... and, are replaying with a 25% exp w/ bonus cash and extra resources...you can finish the games with enough upgrades and loyalty so that everyone lives...at level 30.... in less than 20-hours. But, that's really your choice. There's enough content there to play at least twice that?. Why would you cheat yourself?

I'll never understand this recent fad of judging a game based on it's length in hours. Games give as much as you give.

I can run through ME1 in 5 hours, skipping all the dialog, digital acting, sidequests, story, lore, codex entries, but it's no where near as fulfilling as really immersing yourself in the game, watching every dialog piece, noticing interesting details, really looking around and exploring the universe.

Also somehow people never mention that difficulty is a massive factor in how fast you can run through a game.

Besides, I'd rather have a 30 hours of high fidelity gaming, than 60 hours of just meh. But I digress :P

My friend managed to complete the game 'fully' (apparently) in 22 hours.

I'm doing a full playthrough and am at 31 hours, with 1 loyalty mission and most of the sidequests still to do.

Mass Effect 1 takes me roughly 36 hours to do fully, so it looks like ME2 is longer (for me anyway)

Apparently you just wanted to see what happens rather than immerse yourself to what is different from this game and the first game.

No, it was not short. ME1 was a little longer if you DID everything, but ME2 had more fun content. The additional hours in ME1 involved driving through featureless, barren worlds, playing simon says to get minerals, and going through the same merc base 99 times.

So you're telling me you did 19 N7 missions, and 10 recruitment missions and another 10 loyalty missions.
On top of that you did, freedoms progress, Horizon, Collector ship, derilict reaper/IFF, and end game?

That is basically 40 missions alone, even at an average of lets say 25 min per mission you're looking at about 17 hours right there.
That is not including all the dialogue.
How about at least an hour or two for enough resources?

Let's not forget all the planets you can visit and walk around and talk to all the people.
Did you hear the "bachelor party", the turian/quarian convo etc etc.

How about all the time it takes getting from place  to place and loading screens /cut scenes and without doubt over 6 hours of pure dialogue.

Add it all up and it is virtually impossible to do it all in that short time.
Yes I believe you if you dialogue skipped, and ran through the missions and missed a lot and skipped several smaller side quests.

Tell me again why I should believe you. I say BS, this smells of nothing but the typical "hey look at me comment"

Yeah right buddy, how about you get your money's worth and play the game instead of rushing through it like a simple FPS shooter game.

It never cease to amaze me with these people that somehow think they are "cool" or "pro's" for defeating the game in shortest time possible.

Exactly, while you can do ME2's campaign quickly the same goes for ME1... I have no idea what people are talking about.

It's very like a typical FPS with a larger story line.  The N7 missions were only about 5 mins each way to complete.  Currently I have completed the game on Veteran as a Paragon and now playing on Insanity as a Renegade.  To tell the truth I don't like the game as much as ME1 and I don't find the re-playability as good.

If you really want me to tell you all about the story and how I evolved my character all the way through I will go write a dissertation.

Go ahead.

You said the game was short, you made it that way by not playing it to it's fullest, and I don't mean scan planets.
Besides a short game is a game like MW2 about 4-5 hours.

As I said there is no way you played through the game in 18 hours and actually did most things.
The ammount of dialogue between missions speaking to each squad member is a lot.

You're simply one of those players that run through the game thinking it is a contest..

I have to ask do you play on console or PC?

Nevermind you play it on the 360, which explains a lot.
Many ( NOT ALL), console gamers have the attention span of a nat and only care about "achievments" and "gamer points".
I bet my ass that most your games are speed runs and some kind of attempt at bragging?

This is what kills the games for us PC gamers, they all lose the "rpg" aspect cause it's is "tedious" for the console player on the couch.
Now it all have to be "Co-Op" play now as well or the console crowd cry foul.
All games have to please every player to make money and sadly most of them are console players.

I have a console too, so I see both ends of the spectrum.

Nor did I, I would only harvest planets that were rich in resources for a few seconds then move on to a mission.

It still took 32 hours to complete the game.

All I have to say is that if you DON'T take your time and complete side-missions, talk to squadmates, do loyalty missions, or otherwise "interact" with the world you are going to hate "your setup" for ME3. If you DO interact with the world, make tough decisions and do side quests then you can see the subtle "hints" at how that might effect your ME3 game... I don't want to spoil anything. But 16 hours is not enough time to build up "out-of-party" relationships that could have a major impact on ME3 *cough* Rachni Queen *cough*

If you clocked 16 hours you either;
• Are lying.
• Skipped a crapload of dialogue.
• Didn't do any sidequests.
• Virtually ignored your entire crew.
• Didn't do any character missions.
• Played on the easiest difficulty.

No, it wasn't. My finished save is at 62 hours and while that damn boring scanning took far too much time there was still plenty of great content there.

You skipped most of the game.

I checked every planet, picked up every anomoly
did all the DLC
made sure every system said 100%
did every mission
ended up with over 50,000 EZ (after I bought everything
and way more with the others
probably spent 3 hours scanning total
listened to all dialouges
did every loyalty mission
finished the game
and did Insanity (which is easy)

that totaled to 24 hours (2 hours less than doing everything and getting every mineral with insanity in ME1)

First of all you're lying. There is something like 20 hours of dialogue in ME2 alone.

Secondly you mined every mineral in ME1? Are you some kind of idiot?

It might be due to this (me myself do this very often):
Even when you work and earn you cash, time after time comes such a month when you will be low on cash and you can't afford buying several games a month. Or maybe you just bored to buy many of them.
So it comes a part when you think: "Hmm.. this game will last me just 4h but costs 60$ and that one is 8h long and also 60$" and then you just buy the one with 8h (if you like both them equaly). Like when DA:O came out, I was actually planing to buy Batman game. But I had some unexpected expences and had to think again how to prolong my monthly entertaiment without extra expences. Its not so that there is allways only one game on the market that is fun for a person. My list of currently available "want-to-have"-games is about 30 items. So I allways have many good games to pick from, and if I can lower my expences on one thing and drink more beer instead is allways a nice feature.

It's very simple: you can buy 100 very short games that you like to last a month or you can buy 10 games that you also like to last a month.

Although you have concider the re-play value (if any) and all other things. But I would not buy MW2 at full price for very short single player if I dont care for multi-player, unless I just have a sack of cash under my bed that I can't spend.

Bottom line:
I use to buy 5-7 games a month because once they are finished there is no point to re-play them unless you have memory problems. While in the last 3 month I bought just 3 games in total (ME2 and DA:O and still didn't open Batman) because ME2 and DA:O provide so much re-playability and gameplay hours to make a single playthrough that no extra games needed.

I would like to say that I don't run through a game as quick as possible.  I play games on both consols and PC's as its part of my job.  I work and run an online gaming magazine and I have to play games for a living.  I've been playing games on many formats since I owned a Binatone oh so many eyars ago.  Don't think your talking to a novice and don't start flaming at me because I was answering a question.  My last statement was ment in an amusing lighthearted way, hence the devil "smile"  Don't make presumtions about me and stop trying to bully a situation where there was none in the first place.

To go back on point, I still think the game was short, for a typical BioWare game, and I don't think it's as good as ME1.  My opinion, my statement.
