Hi guys,

I just finished ME2 and I really enjoyed it. So I figured I should get ME1 as well. Bought it online digital download off EA Store. It runs super duper slow. Even though I could run ME2 with max graphic smoothly.

Here are all my destop specs.

1.     OS:          Windows 7 Ultimate x64bits

2.     PU:        Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz

3.    RAM:        8 GB RAM

4.  VIDEO:           ATI Radeon HD4670 512mb

5.   AUDIO:            Creative SB X-Fi

6.  DirectX:            DX11 for win7

Game info.
The game is a Digital Download version from EA Store.
 Has Patch 1.02 already.
Has Bring Down The Sky installed.

Problem.
This only occured in ME1. I could play ME2 just fine with maxed out settings.

From the splash screen it took like 2 minutes to load into the main menu and every thing seem quite slow. When load into actual game(With charactor and croos hair). It's quite choppy and slowmo also look like my mouse sensitiviy has been drastically reduced.

I've try uninstall and reinstall it and still nothing. Get all my drivers up to date. Nothing help so far.

    Thank you in advance.

I did notice ME2 runs smoother than ME1 on that PC, but not to that point. Have you tried ME1 with non-maxed out settings? Try disabling heavy stuff like AA (if you activated it) and see how it goes?

I have the exact same problem. Take a look at my topic here. http://social.biowar...12967/1#1148710

Sorry to say that I wasn't able to eliminate the problem though. What did improve the FPS is disabling one of my cpu core's for the game (I have a dual core, so you might want to try to disable two or three).

I had the same problem with ME1. what I did was run dx diag then lowered the dx 9 settings specially the audio. it worked, I'm now using ati 5750 1 gig. before I had no problem issues when I was using gtx 275 oc. however, my ME1 is installed at XP and my ME2 is installed st windows 7. I cant install Mass effect1 on windows 7 cause it says exceeded installation limit.

When I first installed and played Mass effect 1 2 years ago, it was super duper fast. I was then using amdx4 9550 plus gtx 275 oc. Now I'm using i5 2,600 gz plus ati 5750 1 gig.

Hmm, that's too bad. Have you tried disabling one or more of your cores?

Well I'm not superexperienced with this kind of stuff either, so I don't know how to set up your cpu in a way that it will always disable one or two cores when you start up ME1, so you might have to do it everytime you start the game up, but it's done in a couple of seconds so it's no biggie.

When you've started the game (the MassEffect.exe executable that is) press alt-tab so you're back in windows, press ctrl+alt+delete to open the task manager and go to the processes tab. Here you'll see MassEffect.exe (probably taking up about 80% or more of the CPU processes). Right click it and click 'select affinity'. In the pop-up deselect one or two cores (perhaps three but I don't recommend it). Alt-tab to go back to the game, it will probably stutter big time for the first couple of seconds but after that it might run smoother. Be sure the heatsink on your CPU is clear of dust though.

Are you sure you're running the game as administrator?

Hm I'm sorry but I don't have the sufficient knowledge. Are you sure you are running the computer as admin? I mean, i'm not sure if you're computer has multiple user accounts, but even if it hasn't you need to make sure you're account is an administrator one I guess. If that doesn't work then I'm afraid I can't help you, sorry. Are you able to disable core's with other executables you see running in the task manager?

Glad to be of help, may I ask, did you rename the executable or disable a core? I'm asking because i'm really wondering wether my problem was related to my setup or is "wide-spread" ;)

I have the same problem on this computer, it has a six core Phenom 2, and although Mass Effect 2 only recognizes one of the cores it runs fine, but Mass Effect 1 barely runs. It's not so bad on my quad core laptop.

ME1 wasnt designed to run on multi-core CPU's. Once the game is running, alt-tab out and set CPU affinity for single core and it should speed things up.

Now you guys tell me, after I've finished ME1...it ran "okay", but ME2 runs wayyy better, looks wayyy better, and I can max out all the settings to the highest. Come to think of it, a similar Bioware game (KOTOR) ran quite horribly no matter what I tried. Wonder if it was a "single-core thing" this whole time... Sheesh, I hope not.
