Male vs. Female PC

I am one of these that find fictional 'girls with guns' sexy. Alice in Resident Evil, etc. The shot of Trinity in the roof scene from the Matrix with the lovely line - 'Dodge this - BANG'
And, of course, girls with knives, swords etc have all that as well. Throw in the hunky blokes and you have a fantasy world, unsurprisingly.
My DAO character is a female mage and I have imbued her with many of the values that female heroines have from the books of Thomas Hardy. Amazingly, DAO handles it.

I'm a bloke and if given the choice I always play both sexes. I even created a female character in Rainbow 6 Vegas. I think this choice and the more mature levels of gameplay is an excellent progression in computer games.

I could not have said it better. Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss) in real life is like, eh, not so great. But put her in tight leather in an ass kicking role and I'm right there with you. Alice (Milla Jovovich) is to me what Brad Pitt is to most women. Actually, now that I think about it, with the right hair cut and color, Milla might make a nice Leliana in any future movie.

There are some excellent female characters in fiction and it is great to create your own in a game

Yes, pretty unobtainable in real life, but hey I am not sure many girls get a real life Alistair!
My first hand research would indicate that, no, most do not.

Go prowl the military bases. I knew a lot of Alistairs;) Although typically not as nice.

hehe - I can imagine that. not many blokes like that here in the UK though. Alistair is most definitely an American!

I always feel stuck, too. Lured, even. Damn that Steve Valentine.errant_knight wrote...
I enjoy playing both, but prefer playing the female PC (and am female). That's quite unusual for me, actually. Many games do female characters very poorly, and to the extent that I find them too irritating to play. One problem I do have is that my choice of ending feels constrained, mostly as a result of finding myself unable to forgo the Alistair romance. From an in-game perspective, I can find no logical reason to leave one of only 3 people who can kill the archdemon at the gate. It's simply too risky. Neither can I bring myself to let Alistair sacrifice himself, so I'm kind of stuck. I have to do the ritual, each and every time. It's just so much more unbearable to watch someone else die than to die yourself.
As for male PC'dom, I just did Redcliffe Castle last night. Oh man, none of my characters ever had as much trouble with this decision as Aedan. He was about to try to fight the demon, but talked to Connor and... that was right out. If there had been an option to do so, he would have had Jowan cast the ritual with himself or Teagan as sacrifice. Killing a woman or a child, another nobleman's family? And then there was the fact that he's in a romance with Morrigan, so sending her into the Fade to battle what he knows to be a powerful demon was a terrible decision. (This makes me all the more mad on behalf of my female elf mage who was romancing Alistair at the point that she decided to sacrifice Isolde, and Alistair shows jack-all concern about her after she came back from fighting demons alone in the Fade. Just yells at her- jerk!) In the end, my male PC went to the Circle, but expected to find Redcliffe in ashes when he got back.
Of course, my husband says his PCs have no such qualms and consider that Isolde has it coming. So maybe there is a difference if you're a woman playing a male PC! LOL

I agree with your husband, Isolde had it coming for what she did and my Nobles never had trouble sacrificing her since it her fault this mess to begin with and she failed her charges and ended up nearly getting the entire village killed(and even though you saved the village many people still died) because of her own desires

it takes meta gaming knoledge to know that doesn't happen, but my characters certainly didnt want to risk it especially since Teagan and Isolde pushing you to make a decision quickly because Conner could lose control at any moment

I don't consider Morrigan a Maleficar. I thought those were blood mages of which Morrigan isn't one namely cause shes not so stupid as to make deals with demons more than an issue with the morality of the practice. An Apostate, yea but not a maleficar.

Alistair calls her that, but yes, you don't have to agree with him.sylvanaerie wrote...

I just did the Gauntlet last night and discovered Cailan's armor doesn't come off, though the game thinks it's off. So the cut scene had Leliena, Morrigan and me in our scanties and Alistair in full plate, not even his face showing. Typical male fantasy...
That's a bug - I've had that have a few times with different armours. One of my characters had sex with Zevran while wearing Juggernaut armour (ouch) - another went through the whole rescue the queen mission "disguised" in Warden Commander armour. Usually quicksaving and quick reloading will update the character model.

Definitely a Bug. I've had sex with Alistair and the Female PC wearing Chainmail, simply removing Helms and they remain showing, etc.... I think it has to do with a memory leak or something. Mostly because if I continue to play long enough, I inevitably get a crash, but I can't find anything consistant about it.
EDIT: Ontopic: I have played only the Dalish Elf as both Male and Female (and Lyna is my current playthru). But I've not noticed much difference in my 10-ish playthrus, other than the REALLY big difference between City elf Male/Female (Which I think makes more sense playing as Female).

A malefaicar is the Chantry's term for blood mages. An apostate is the Chanty's term for non-Circle mages.
I can understand you considering her a malefaicar and apostate, or neither, but don't understand why you'd consider her one but not the other.
