Hi Folks,

I have a strange bug.
After a crash (in game: first no dialoge sound then game froze and the whole system haltet, which forced me to do a hard reset) I first had to relog onto Cerberus and I could not just resume my game (3rd playthrough).
Well that wasnt all bad, i just selected my current character and loaded the last safe. But ingame when I bought upgrades on the citadel, i noticed that i suddenly got achievment updates for achievments i already completed.

On the Normandy i checked my progress and all achievments were gone.
Now, does anyone know of a way to get the achievments back without restarting from the beginning? Because going back to an early safe does not work.

Thanks in advance.

Same problem. None of my characters has any achievements anymore. Very annoying

This seems to be a common issue with ME2. Your achievements are tied to your player profile file, which is located under My Documents/Bioware/Mass Effect 2/BIOGame/Profile. If you crash while the game is accessing that file you lose your achievements. I don't know if the file simply corrupts or if it gets deleted, but the symptoms are exactly the same as if you manually wiped that file.

I don't think there's any way to prevent this from happening, but what you can do is periodically 'back up' your profile (example: make a copy of the file and name it Player1.prf.backup). That way if you crash again you can at least restore your achievements to the latest backup and you won't have lost everything.

Exact same thing has happened to me. Twice. It's not too bad, since most of the achievements can be gotten in one play through plus I don't really care about achievements.

I do wish that achievements would have been tied to your online profile so you could never lose them. If not that option, build in a redundancy to prevent them from getting wiped if the game crashes at a particular spot.
Something to think about for ME3?

Edit: Make that 3 times. Thanks Miriel Amarinth for the link to to the achievements.

There's a possible way to restore your information regarding this, discussed in another thread that I really wish were stickied as I don't what page it's buried on by now... but in short, it's this:

1.) If you have the proper versions of Vista and Win7, you could locate your Player1.prf (where Miriel said it is), right-click on it and you may have an option to restore an older version.

2.) If you have Vista in general or above, you can download Shadowexplorer (google it) and essentially do the same thing - restore an older version.

3.) You can ask someone nice enough to send you their file and hope you have similar achievements.

And yeah, it's a fairly common problem I think as I got it and I've seen many threads about it.

Also Spartan5127, I normally agree with the not caring about achievements, but I noticed Advance Training (or the ability to select a new power after beating the game) is tied into you actually having the Loyalty achievements. I don't know if other things in the game are tied into that as well.

As skan5 said above there was another thread where someone explained exactly that. I believe it was in the same thread or a very similar one that someone also offered a profile file with all achievements unlocked, for those who lost all their achievements. I'll see if I can find that thread. It's somewhere a few pages down in the tech forum.

edit: found it! Here's the thread where someone linked a full achievements unlocked profile replacement: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/1133416

Would you please tell me how to make shadowexplorer restorer the said program to an older version?

That worked perfectly, thank you very much!

Thank you skan5. Worked perfectly for me to :-)

Alexis if you still haven't found out (you probably have by now :-) Then you just have to pick a date from where you want the old copy, then locate it as explained above and export the old file and replace it with the current one.

Thanks Skan5, that sure is a nifty feature.

It's outright ridiculous that the achievments aren't stored in your online profile as in DA.

ME2 doesnt have an online profile. The only ridiculousness is you expecting someone else to maintain the intergrity of your data, stored on your machine.

Well, it worked fine in DA so why not want in other Bioware products?

Thanks Skan5, that sure is a nifty feature.

What is not at all "nifty" is cluttering up the forum by "replying" when the thread you answered is a year in the grave.  That is necromancy of the first order.
