I'm starting a game with a rogue archer and I was wondering wich is the best armor to use. I was thinking of wearing medium armor, basically the ancient elven armor set, because well it looks awesome and it has bonus to Dex. Any suggestions?

Starting out, I'd suggest getting a full set of Dalish until you can locate all the parts and attachments for the other armors. Dalish gives decent protection and bonuses to dexterity and constitution (iirc). Remember that critters attack the most heavily armored member of the party first, then spread out. Alistair starts out in medium armor; Sten is usually fitted out in heavy. If you're in light armor, guess who's taking the brunt of the initial attack? Between looting in Ostagar and Lothering, you'll pick up a set of studded leather, which will serve until you can get the Dalish.

Remember that you can visit the Dalish camp and trade with them without having to start Nature of the Beast, although it'll be a journal entry. Go see them, hear about their woes, get your armor and head off to Redcliffe, or wherever. While you're there, load up on elfroot and have Morrigan (or whoever has the herbalism skill) make a ton of potions for you. Bodahn carries unlimited flasks, and he'll be at your camp after Lothering.

This is my end-game combination, except instead of the Cadash Stompers I use either the Bard's Dancing Shoes or Silverhammer's Tackmasters (both sold by Bodahn at your camp).

The Ancient Elven Armor looks absolutely beautiful but as a practical matter, by the time I collect up all the pieces, it has been surpassed by other armors in terms of usefulness.  Also, the boots are bugged on the PC, so you'll have to download a mod or use a workaround if you want them to appear in the game as they should.

And, of course, if you play the Dalish origin, you'll have a complete set of Dalish armor right from the get-go!

I was sad to say goodbye to my ancient elven. It's the best looking light armour in the game. I saved and saved for the Felon's coat and it looks like....every other armour set. Not ugly, per se, just unexciting.

Re: the Cadash stompers. Does the "increases hostility" seem significant? My tank will have threaten up, as well as taunting periodically, so I'm hoping that will keep the baddies from chasing my rogue around too much.

Yeah i think that the look of most of the light armour pale in comparison to other armor tipes, and I enjoy my character having some kick ass look, but you don't look very cool when you lie dead on the floor. One question about the helmet: i notice that the long sight is combat oriented but not use one that gives a stat boost like helm of honleath?

It's actually medium armor ;)
And I was quite disappoined when I found out that it wasn't a set with archery bonuses. Would have felt like playing one of the elven archers fighting in Helm's Deep in the LotR movie. ... Yes, I know there where no elves (besides Legolas) at Helm's Deep in the books. But seeing them marching in always feels awesome.

Well, if you are a rogue, just use Stealth. If you are a warrior, use Disengage. And if you are a mage, I hope you don't use a bow

Seriously though, using Cadash or not didn't seem to make any different in enemy hostility for my archer rogue. Arrow of Slaying usually means instant aggro anyway - IF the target survives, that is.

There are very few items with +ranged crit in the game and Long Sight has the highest bonus I can think of. Having an archer and NOT using Long Sight would be a total waste. Unless you use Rapid Shot all the time but since that doesn't stack with the Rapid Aim ability of most high-tier bows, why would you? And you should really have a bow with Rapid Aim (*cough*Far Song*cough*) by the time you get Long Sight.

No kidding. When I saw it, I was like, "That's wrong... but it's so cool!! ...Elendil!" :P

I do like the Ancient Elven. But it really upsets me that Bioware just reskinned the heavy chainmail for it. That's pathetic.
