It seems to me that BioWare just didn't feel like putting as much effort into the xpack as they should have. I'll still buy the game, but I doubt it will be as fun as I was hoping.
Most x-packs are released a year or so after a games release... awakanings is what... four months and a half? Oh, I think they put a ton of effort into it... sounds like they may have just rushed it.

I never said they didn't put effort into it, just that they should have put in more.Wishpig wrote...

While I'll buy Awakening for sure, I hope they're done releasing DLC, anyway, because if this is the policy they're going to adopt, I don't see a lot of people wasting their money on DLC from now on...

Well considering that DA:O was on ice for the better part of a year before release, they may have been working on this for some time now. I dunno which scenario is better. If they took a long time on this, I question the game design skills of the lead developers. Losing DLC loot and the Dead Warden Anomaly alone are what the acronym "wtf" was invented for, practically. If they rushed it... well, I wish they'd have held it back and fixed these issues first. To put it nicely =D

All I am saying is when you decide to or not to (it goes both ways) buy a game before a single customer has laid hands on it, that is, well.... foolish and pig-headed.
I disagree. I have decided to buy games and not to buy games many times before any single customer has laid hands on the product. I have made a few mistakes both ways, but that does not mean generalizing the very valid practice of making a proactive decision as foolish and pig-headed is accurate or acceptable.

Did you enjoy dragon age? If the answer is yes, then wait and see what the word on the street is when the products released.
This is your take on how to handle the concerns that have been expressed. Other people might prefer to make a call now and move on to look for/buy other games. Deciding not to buy it now does not mean that the person cannot change his/her mind later when reading reviews or user comments. It simply means that, as of now, he/she has no interest and won't be supporting the game at launch.
Wishpig wrote...
Hell, theres no point to me really saying this. If the game turns out to be damn good, your gonna buy it. If it turns out to suck your not gonna.
I agree there is not point. Please don't call people pig-headed for their preferences in purchase patterns.

And yet it remains true.
This is not true. There have been and there will continue to be plenty of products that even the most uninformed can tell will fail and can classify as stupid/bad/lol from the first preview. An example.

Actually... I consider myself a fan. I have 6 complete playthroughs and according to the logs each one clocked more than 100 hours. I shouldn't be proud of saying that. It is a ridiculous time investment.Wishpig wrote...

To give you an idea how much I like the game... I have written a PM to Mr Gaider last Friday to ask him how feasible it was to have an easter-egg cameo appearnce of Lellana in a ME2 DLC or ME3. I was surprised by his swift reaction. I got a response back within a couple of minutes. He figured the chances were near nil, but he suggested I should take it up with the ME team. So, I did and I am waiting for a response from them. It's weekend, so I think it will be a whle before Mr Priestly responds. However, I do think Mr Gaider is right and the chances of success are next to nothing. Still I thought it was worth to try it.
Think of it... The ME2 universe is a lonely place without the ME1 LIs. Leliana would be a fun encounter for many. And if the Blood Dragon Armor could make it, then why not Leliana? All it takes is a little blood magic, the Fade and the Mu Relay.

Thanks for proving my point... that product may be laughible to some, but it isn't to people who need it, the handicapped and the obese.
See, you just judged a product unfairly and without doing research. You judged to quickly off limited knowledge.
YES, sometimes you can predict something will be bad and be right, BUT you can also judge unfairly and be WRONG. It happens to everyone. If you liked Dragon Age, then writing off awakaning before anyone has laid hands on the sucker is foolish and pig-headed. Wait till something substantial like reviews and feedback before making up your mind.
And I am not speaking about people who have doubts or even threaten not to buy.
I am speaking about 95% of the people who strait out say, "I'm not gonna buy because *insert point*". however, people who actually stick to their claim if the game gets good reviews and feedback are rare...

The amount of nerdrage is kind of hilarious.
I am totally okay with there being no romances. Romances were always a side aspect of the game for me -- I could care less about them compared to the plot itself. If anything, I like that they're putting romances on the backburner and forcing people to focus on the actual story, since the plot in this expansion is SO full of lore.
I'm a lore fanatic and pretty much tore through both of Gaider's books like a maniac. The Calling especially was awesome for me, just for the amount of lore and backstory. Honestly, at this point, I don't even care about any of the gameplay aspects of Awakening.
And I am beyond excited that we'll get to see Utha. /nerd

The romance sidequests in ME1 were kinda bland. In fact, it's pretty much the other way around for me - I thought that many aspects of the world were quite interesting (especially the lore surrounding the krogans and the genophage, that was great) but the companions weren't well fleshed out. Certainly not as well thought out as in DA:O. (Only eight hours into ME2 so I can't comment yet on how the companions in that game compare to Dragon Age's)
My first impressions already have me feeling more strongly about my ME2 companions than I have about my ME1 crew, for the most part. With the exception of Wrex, I didn't find my squad mates all that interesting. Ashley, who's political views were surprisingly nuanced, had her moments, but there was some cheesy dialogue thrown in there too often. I liked Garrus, Kaidan was alright (I haven't played as a woman, so I probably don't have a full perspective on him), Liara was incredibly annoying and was on your jock/cooch no matter how rude you were to her, and Tali was a little too reserved, so you didn't really know much about her.

I am still pissed about DLC because items won't be carried over and the stories in DLC have no impact on the story... they've become just some story fillers if you ask me.
Well the DLC stories not playing into Awakening, I can understand. After all, not everyone is going to have purchased them so for those players, it's moot. Since there's always limited time in development, I don't think it's unreasonable for the DLC plots to not have any bearing on Awakening. The loss of items, however, is a real headscratcher for me. I'm currently filing that under "wtf ever". I will have to wait and see what we start the game with and then what is obtainable (since it's bound to be better than DLC loot) before filing it under "Ways Bioware Molested Me Personally".

A lot of the DlC items are Tier 1-3 and are already well superseded by non-DlC stuff by the end of the base game. But the bottom line is even the ones that are Tier 6-7will prolly be exceeded by the Tier 8-10 gear that's likely to be coming for your level 25+ character.
Are you going to miss Starfang when there are likely to be 2H swords that will be much better?
Fact is, as you start climbing into the higher levels of the expansion, your beloved DlC gear from the original game is likely to look clunky, even against "garden variety" "greens" you can probably start finding early in the new one.

Yeah I think the key thing to remember is all your DLC loot will more then likely become complete garbage quite quickly in the expansion. It may have simply not been worth the effort having the game check for the individual items that not everyone would have in game if after an hour of gameplay it's completely obsolete.
The Family sword was obsolete by lvl 10 in Origins, Im one of those that still kept it. Heck I kept some early BG2 items til end of TOB, completely meaningless in power terms.
If they were really intended as throw aways, why bother writing up long history for the items your just gonna sell.

Posté 14 février 2010 - 05:35
And to writing up the history, it's not uncommon to create a bit of lore in a game and never revisit it. Are we ever going to hear the stories told by Leliana again? Probably not. Levias the Dwarf Son? Unlikely. These type of things are instilled to add a bit of flavor and life to the game, that's all. That doesn't necessarily mean they are crucial and must be carried on.

That would be interesting: for some reason, instead of the two souls in one body destroying each other, you end up with the Warden living, but the soul of the Archdemon also lying in his/her soul too... Would make for an interesting drama...
