Keeping up with what Knal1991  started, I figured I'd post a list of DLC armor for quick reference. Most likely all of these items will not carry over to Awakening.

The Stone Prisoner:
Blood-Gorged Amulet
Cadash Stompers
Cord of Shattered Dreams
Dead Thaig Shanker
Harvest Festival Ring
Helm of Honnleath
Wilhelm's Magus Staff

Warden's Keep

Antique Warden Crossbow
Asturian's Might
Robes of Avernus
Shadow Belt
Starfang (Greatsword)
Starfang (Longsword)
Warden Commander Armor Set
Warden's Tower Shield
Winter's Breath

Return to Ostagar:

Cailan's Armor Set
Cailan's Shield
Corrupted Magister's Staff
Duncan's Dagger
Duncan's Sword
Firestone Harness
Maric's Blade
Nug Crusher
Repeater Gloves
Swiftrunner Warpaint

Misc DLC Gear:

Memory Band
Feral Wolf Charm
Guildmaster's Belt
Band of Fire
Dalish Promise Ring
CE Bergen's Honor, Grimoire of the Frozen Wastes, Final Reason
The Edge
Embri's Many Pockets
Helm of the Deep
The Lucky Stone
The Lion's Paw
Blood Dragon Armor
Mark of Vigilance
Amulet of the War Mage
The Wicked Oath

Ouch indeed. It's a good thing I can use Grimoire of the Frozen Wastes and the Formari Tome right away, and still have those stat boosts apply to my characters.

Losing access to all that is going to burn. I'm especially annoyed about the Warden Commander armor. Best looking armor set in the game IMO, and now it's gone. Just like that. :/

This DLC thing is the only news that bothers me though. I've had most of my other wishes granted by this FAQ. Quite the shock. Well, maybe. It depends on what those new talents and specializations actually *are*. I'm, perhaps foolishly, optimistic about it.

I am left wondering if the blood abilities you unlock through Avernus' experiments in Warden's Keep will also get wiped from your character upon transfer.

I bought the DLC Wardens Keep and Stone Prisoner right before going to Denerim defeating the Archdemon - just for the extra equipment. And now I figure out I more or less wasted my money?

I am actually not disappointed at all, ''angry'' would be a much better word . What the hell is Bioware doing? Did they get a blow to the head?

As far as the romances go...I thought Origins did a pretty nice job of completing each arc (well, the Morrigan one was a cliff hanger but that looks to be sequel material anyway, not something you could expand upon in a shorter expansion pack). And I think adding new romances would probably feel rushed and hasty in a shorter game. As long as the original romances are at least acknowledged (i.e. love interests get cameos), then I'm happy.

As for DLC...wow that's a massive list. And it's definitely disappointing to think about how much stuff won't carry over. But...there's likely to be quite a bit of new equipment at higher tiers, so perhaps the old stuff would have been rendered obsolete anyway. No sense in judging until we actually get the game.

Importing a character is one way. So you can import from Origins into
Awakening at any point you like. But you cannot import an Awakening
character back in to Origins.

That means character transfer is one way (as you might expect).

However, that does not mean you can't use the new talents "unlocked" by the expansion in the original campaign, although it might mean going back to an earlier save.

I expect you'll be able to -- if not some modder will quickly make it possible.

In fact, I expect mods shortly that will also make the expansion companions available as original campaign companions as well.

That's the great thing about leaving your game open to modding.

And what are my characters going to walk around in until I pick up the new equipment?

Left out doesn't mean to break !
Am I the only one who thinks they decided to NOT give any continuity to romances or give cameos to major characters just to don't touch or change anything of the original campiagn ??
Maybe they are giving us a new adventure totally extemporaneus.. So in order to do this they brought back a less important character (Oghren - no intention to offend anyone saying he is a less important character) and gave cameos only to less important character (with the exception of Alistair).
By doing this, tomorrow they will be able to continue the original campaign from the exact point it ended without having to face some changes due by what may happens in Awakening !!

This is logical.  Hopefully true also :)  Maybe Dragon age 2 or whatever they call it will be a direct sequel to our own personal Origins story, and this expansion is more to give us something to do now to keep us excited/interested.  Would be nice anyhow.  :)

All my characters are modded I think.  I will be walking around with no hair or body.   I'd be an excellent tester for what works however, i have all the dlc, mods coming out the wazzoo on many of my characters, so if anyone can break awakenings, its ME! lol

Wait until you see how fast the modders can give you what is missing on release day though.  Bioware must have process and procedure to do things as they have to support professionally whatever they put out there. Modders just have to have high will to want to get it done, and they usually do :)

So, if my Queen is no longer queen because she won't be recognized as such? Ok, that's disappointing, but being snubbed by ME already, it's hardly surprising.

WHAT ? no romance or possibility to continue the existing romance(s) we had in Origin

I am not at all satisfied and will reconsider my pre-order for Awakening if you read the players comments you can see that this has been a PLUS to the game ! why take it away ???

You are making a big mistake here

It's very annoying having to go through this two games at a time! I won't cancel mine, but it does make me wonder when Bioware will listen to fans about how they want these things to carry over. Someday, they will. Hopefully in time for DA2, JE2 ME3, who knows?:?

It deserves is own thread perhaps "Awakening Theories" rather being lost in the flood.
I think it makes perfect sanity given what we have heard or not heard (Leliana/Zevran/Morrigan).

Expansion are generally used to "expand" the current setting, as a sequel is usually used to advance the plot. So the FAQ makes sense. I'm sure there are some indications about your possible lover in dialogue though. It's just that in awakening you are "away from home" for a while, and your spouse (if you have one) stayed at home. Not a big deal. Just don't forget, that this is an expansion, not a sequel.

The one thing I really hope that when Bioware makes the full sequel, is that they don't do Fable and hit the setting like 200 years after the original dragon age, effectively destroying everything they built...

So, based on the faq, am I correct in assuming that the only way to play as the Orlesian Gray Warden will be to start an entirely new game, without importing anything?

If that is indeed the case, I will be greatly disappointed. I was very much looking forward to importing my 'ultimate sacrifice' save, where I would be able to play as the Orlesian Gray Warden yet still see the consequences of my deceased PC's actions from Origins.

Just regarding those asking about the romances, by "not continue" it just means you don't have a chance to actively continue the relationship during the course of this adventure. It does not mean that you mysteriously broke up or that the romance is not recognized to exist. I would have liked to have cameos by everyone, but that simply wasn't possible. As it is, you may find some treats awaiting you -- recognizing past decisions can be done in small ways, as well as large (and this applies to things outside of romances, as well).

I think I reacted a little too soon.  After reading the faqs more (silly me), and realizing there is NO romance period, I guess this is not common for an expansion?  But then, is there no acknowledgment of my HFN being Queen, or my elf being Chancellor?

Whenever David Gaider posts I always feel a small amount of relief to any issue being discussed.

Wow... for an expansion, this is sounding kinda... weak? I was expecting something better than MotB from Obsidian's NWN2 (with the option to stand up for an old/get into a new Romance, a relatively strict continuation of story, etc.)... I guess my hugest problem is the complete disregard for lore when ignoring the fact that your character could've died, since that was pretty much the entire ending for them. It somehow lessens their sacrifice, and makes the "big choice" seem stupid when you can just say "A Wizard Did It" and move on with your life.

Bah no new romances in a big let down. The one thing I like most about Bioware games is that they have romances in them. It is there main selling point in my eyes. While I still think all their games are great it makes me sad. I will still get Awakanings and like it. Yet I will be sad a Bioware staple has been removed from the game...

Thanks for clearing that up, knowing that relationships are at least continued and recognized during the playthrough puts my mind at rest quite a bit!

even though romances are always an interesting part in bioware games, i think this particular absence should be seen as a good thing; why? because..

it could very well be a sign that a DAO sequel will have the possibility of using the same char from the first game (considering the differences between da and ME, dont tell me that this was always a certainty; it was not! a da sequel could take place decades after our char died of old age for all we know), meaning that the sequel will indeed continue this particular timeline of events and a lot of characters will still be around, either to continue romancing them or start new ones, but with your char from the same game.

just think about this; you had 1 romance on the first game. then you have a different one in Awakening. then yet another one on the sequel........... this just seems stupid and overdone. a romance in DA:O and then either continue it or jump to a different one in the sequel, without any in between (awakening) makes much more sense.

just my 2 cents.

but oh, how i wish to see a Morrigan cameo... dark promise was my first ending and the one i want to pursuit all the way, its what intrigues me the most. but then again, and putting aside my morrigan nerdness, delaying her return until the sequel would probably be the best thing to do on the long run. otherwise it could just be pointless fan service
