I've been so down on this class. I definitely don't recommend this class to anyone just starting out, but I'm having some serious fun with it. Now, I'm playing on normal, but this class has made playing the game so...fresh? I don't know if that's the right word. But I have had the most exhilarating moments just slamming into combat with this class. I -highly- recommend taking Reave as your bonus power.

That being said, Area Charge has been so much fun. On Grunt's recruitment mission, I knocked three enemies off into the void. Also, I blasted out a Blackstorm Weapon shot, and saw one guy who escaped the blast. I charged him and knocked him into it. I laughed my ass off.

I also used Christina Norman's strategy a couple of times: I started seeing the "veins," then located another enemy and charged him to get out of the fray (which of course re-energizes your shielding). So damn cool. Again: totally don't recommend this on your first play through, but it can be a lot of fun. (Just sharing my experience from an ex-doubter :) )

P.S. This class makes the Flame Thrower so much more viable.

I think Vanguard is great, fighting husks with area charge and flame thrower was epic.

Quite well if you're high enough level and have survivability upgrades. Starting from level 1 is a pain though.

I have vids as low as level 9 wrecking things. Though I have to admit I've never started from level one. I've started from 3 and 5 respectively.

everything scales according to level, level 1-8 or so is basically a sci-fi/western-style shoot-em-up. not that im complaining, i played an adept and it was like that til... level 29 or so.

Almost done with Vanguard on Insanity now. If I've learned anything from the forum it's this:

1. If there is a lot of whining about something in particular (combat, hud, specific classes and powers), it's usually crap. They either don't know how to use/adapt to it (l2p) or it's blown way out of proportion.

2. The forum is good for fact-based comparisons (weaps, powers, etc.) and solutions to quests.

Anyone got any tips for a new Vanguard on Insanity difficulty?

Yeah, read through this thread. We've pretty much covered everything that could be covered in that thread.

Thanks for the help Sinosleep. I really should have looked around before asking though lol.
