* If you have Windows XP Service Pack 2, please upgrade to Service Pack 3 before you try installing. MSSQL Express can cause Windows XP SP2 to go into an endless reboot cycle that's tricky to break out of. SP3 is the minimum required for Dragon Age Origins so you should probably upgrade anyway even if you aren't installing the toolset.
* If you installed the game off of Steam, the game is located on a path longer than MSSQL can handle installing to. There have been workarounds posted on this forum and the wiki that will allow you to install anyway, but you may want to wait a few days until we can get a fix out for this one.
* There's an error a few people have reported that causes the installer to hang at the point where it's registering engine.dll. This doesn't seem to break anything but it does prevent the toolset from installing. We're still trying to figure out the root cause of this one.

Couldn't you just map that directory to a new drive letter? That's how I usually solve long path issues.

Only thing extra I had to do was to read the toolset_readme.txt to realise I needed to install Python to do level editing.
Maybe I should make a habit of reading readme's.

Not being much of a modder, all I want is to fix the promotional items. In a few weeks, there's not really much point anymore.Chris_Really_Rocks wrote...
@Varenus -- wait a few weeks. If this ends up being anything like NWN expert community members will provide all the support you need. (Unless you have special needs or something).
I want to be done with this now, now, now, now, now!
I want to play the full game already.

Adding RPU Firewall Exception...
Adding Lightmapper Firewall Exception...
Execute: regsvr32.exe /s "C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\tools\\Engine.dll"
And then it appears to stop. Why?

Python isn't installed automatically? Hrm - thats odd considering its required for parts of the editor. Think I already have Python installed (for some coding I do) but gotta check.

Installing the toolset has corrupted my single player save, or at least it isn't working properly now. I can't talk to several party members, other party members start with their initial dialogues when they still weren't in the party, I can travel but the companions don't show up... I'm going to reinstall the game, but if the save still doesn't work properly, this might make me stop playing altogether.
Bit selfish, no one forced you to install the toolset.
On the Regserv / registration of services.. IF it is on a PC Running VISTA or WINDOWS 7 they need to make certain there is NOT a UAC / PERMISSION window popping up behind the installer etc.. because one SHOULD pop up.. (did on my WINDOWS 7 install).

Same thing happened to me.
Game was fine before I installed the toolset... Now nothing works. I can't talk to my party members, can't go to the map, can't zone out of the area, none of my party members attack anything but take no damage when they are attacked, etc...
I deleted the toolset from my computer, and reinstalled the game, but my saves still don't work.

Sure, because I should expect the game to break if I install an official toolset.

Have you followed the Items that BIOWARE have said? Checked that nothing was dumped into the OVERRIDE folders?

Nvm, renaming the folder worked for me. Probably shoulda looked for a solution a little harder before I complained. Hehe
Not looking close/reading fixes/etc are usually the cause behind lots of peoples problems (not just here). At least you admit it
Glad that its all working out for you now
