I'm not a Miranda fan but I'm sure she found the biggest one and stuck it there, then again because Shepard is such a badass his wouldn't merely burn up in some random planets atmosphere, It would take Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee, the entire Reaper fleet and the Death Star to take it out, and all of the planets in the Sol System would have to be aligned in order for it to work.
