Much about Awakening sounds great. Seeing Loghain, Oghren, Wynne and Alistair sounds like fun. I'm not even going to miss the DLC loot.

But.....

According to the FAQ there won't be any romances. That is disappointing. A large portion of the fun in Origins were the romances. Navigating the conversational pitfalls of triggering a romance with Lelianna when you're really interested in Zevran. Being dumped by Alistair because you convinced him to become king. All the torturous tricky dialogue choices make the game a great deal of fun.

It's still pre-ordered. But I'm now a lot less excited about it.

Agreed, I don't expect them to bring the old romances back, thats allot to tackle, but at least two new ones would have been nice. This is offset by the massive amount of new talents and skills we get though.

Wouldn't the length of the expansion preclude the development of romances? Unless we are talking a short fling, the getting to know the other stage, the getting interested stage, the flirting and love stages, would be so compressed that it would feel awkward and unrealistic, I think.



I'm all for the romances in Bio's games, and enjoy them thoroughly, but I like them to be done gradually and stretched over a big chunk of the game. Romances in the expansion (unless they were a continuation) wouldn't fit that mold.

I feel the same way. Until today I was really excited about Awakenings, hoping for new romances for some of my PCs who got dumped in Origins. The fact that Oghren is playing a 'major role' in the expansion doesn't make me happy. I was meh about his return at first, figuring I could leave the sad drunk in camp most of the time. Now I'm just meh about the whole expansion.

Yeah i agree... It would be better if they had romances. I mean heck you might be fighting but your guy or girl still has needs haha. Hopefully in the next expansion they will have it back, or even maybe make it so you can in a DLC. There were probably to many people that complained about in the original forum that they didn't even want to mess around with it.

If the expansion is going to be ridiculously shorter than the original game, why the **** are we paying a stand alone price for it?

I think THIS little leaked tidbit is what we should be pissed about, not the lack of romances.

I don't no but people are always crazy. I never really looked at the old forums. But people did complain about Morg and the hole deal and Alistair not keeping a romance unless he wasn't king, hardened, or the girl was a Noble human.

But I saw much, much more praising it than putting it down. The rest is just frustration at people not getting exactly what they want. And Gaider lives on the anguish of the Morrigan and Ali romance, it nourishes his soul.

Yeah i don't know. I really enjoyed the whole romance thing it was fun. Plus even if the expansion is 15 hours like some people have said thats still a good bit of time to get a romance in there. It only took me about 10-20 hours to romance all the male love interests in one play through.

Hey hey hey i want the romance myself. I find that a great part of the game. I mean if you can fight and die with the person why cant you fall in love/ sleep with them.

Yeah im fine if your party falls in love with each other as long as you can too... I would be ok even if you could like fall in love with a NPC (kinda like fable 2 if you know what I'm talking about). Like have him or her in the keep or camp that you can go and visit and get gifts.

Romances do not carry forward in Awakening, because you are away from your previous life fighting a new threat.



Just read through there FAQ and hey that can be ok if they will let you get back to it in the next expansion. "fingers crossed"

This should tell you guys ALOT about the length of this expansion. I'd expect 10 hours at the most and there's no way I'm even paying $20 for a 10-15 hour "expansion" let alone $40.

"There are no romance options available in Awakening. The story is more focused on the mission at hand and the new threat to Ferelden."

So wait...you know, back in Origins when I had to unite all the armies and races of the land while removing Loghain for power while getting Denerim to fight under my banner while defeating the Blight...I had time for romance. However, when I just need to go kill a few upper level Darkspawn and witchthings that talk... I have no time for romance? Lol yeah, okay.

Wow, can you say epic fail? Then what possible decisions that we made at the end of Origins have anything to do with Awakening? What if you married the Queen Anora or Allistair as King for that matter? They won't be in the expansion? Lol seems like the only thing this expansion is carrying over is the title name; Dragon Age. What about who you lived or died? I doubt that even carries over lol this expansion is sounding worse by the day.

Wait I know the FAQ did not adress it but if our companions truly can have flirty and romantic diolage with each other why can't we?

Yep, this is disappointing. I'd hoped Anders would be romance-able but apparently not. Really, if Awakenings is even close to the length of an expansion like MoTB, then I don't see why not. The female character was able to build a close relationship with Gann while under pretty dire circumstances, so I don't see why romances can't happen.

Well even thought they dont have romance in this one they might bring it back in the next expansion. Maybe the next expansion will be Morrigan comes back to ask you for help because she lost control of the god child and you can romance her or other party memebers who knows? lets just hope for the best

Well Obsidian managed to bring in romance quite well in MotB (Safiya is still one of my favourite romancable characters) that was a expansion for a similar game that was hardly that long ago.  I never felt the romances there were rushed either, so I don't necessarily see why this being an expansions precluded developing some good romances.  My only other concern upon reading this is that I hope other companion interaction and development has not be reduced (as that's one of the things I really like about party-based cRPG's like this, having my PCs build relationships with their companions).

Anyhow, I agree with those above, with the fact we won't really be able to continue our romances from Origin into Awakening, and that there are no romances in Awakening itself means I allot less excited about this expansion then I was.

i think creating new romances in every Dragon age game or bigger expansion would make a new james bond out of your charakter and i dont think thats so fitting

i still hope to see morrigan again someday and then we will be a happy family coz that witch is so hot

but to be honest ... none really none of the romance charakters would fit into a longtime relationship

icy morrigan? no way! ... xxx-partner jumping zevran? dont make me laugh! ... leliana who started the affair with lies? dont think so! ... and alistair well ... woman tend to love him, sounds ok for a little affair but for a longer relationship i think it will get really boring soon lol
