People seem to be more focused on romances than the actual story.

Wouldn't the length of the expansion preclude the development of romances? Unless we are talking a short fling, the getting to know the other stage, the getting interested stage, the flirting and love stages, would be so compressed that it would feel awkward and unrealistic, I think.
I'm all for the romances in Bio's games, and enjoy them thoroughly, but I like them to be done gradually and stretched over a big chunk of the game. Romances in the expansion (unless they were a continuation) wouldn't fit that mold.
Well hopefully the romances are just "on hold" for this expansion...and that the game "remembers" they exist, later on...say come another dlc, expansion...OR Dragon Age: Two.
Alot of folks really enjoyed that aspect of the game, it made the story more real/fun for them etc.
Don't forget the romances Bioware....you done a good thing, keep it in the game at some point.

Im sorry but i dont feel bad for people who have this game for ps3 or 360. This game seems more like the type of game that should be played on computer. Assassins Creed i could see on PS3 and 360 but this game just doesn't seem like it would be that much fun on anything but pc
Personally I DO feel sorry for those that want to play it and still can't due to whatever reason.
We're all gamers here..and I don't tend to discriminate because of someone playing on a different machine than myself....whats up with that kind of thinking?
I don't care if they are yellow with purple polka dots....if they want to play and can't due to some technical problem..then I wish and hope they will be able to one day.
Platform elitism needs to die a painful death.

I consider her story to be finished anyway, and she can happily stay where she is and rebuild the GWs with him.
However, I do have a PC who is not romancing anyone atm. She started with Alistair, but dumped him for various reasons. There is also the option to make a new PC. I don't see why they can't have a romance, but the NPCs can with each other.
My fav PC was forced by Zevran to choose between him and Alistair, and she had to make a choice. I don't see how that can't be implemented in Awakening and/or future DA titles that deal with the origin GW.
No romance, new or continued, together with all else I learned, my originial "I'll probably wait and see", is now turned into "I'll definitely wait and see."
Edited to add that HotU was an expansion with the best romance anywhere to be found in-game at the time, in my opinion. So if it could be done then, it can be done now.

It kind of annoys me that people think that this game is actually DA O 2 and not DA A the expansion. Its the same game with a new character's (don't complain about this because you guys are so attached to the others for all you know they could play a big part as non party members)( and heck maybe you will come to like the new guys just as much or more), New armor, traits, spells, stuff like that, it's not a whole new game.
I think the main concern among fans with this is the fact that, while this is labeled an "expansion", it's still going to cost a lot of money. If I recall correctly, this expansion's going to cost $40 ish, right? That's still a buttload of money--roughly 80 percent of what I payed for DA:O (that's on sale!).
Simply because they say that it's an "expansion" doesn't mean that's the way fans have to conceive it as. Just based off price, I'd understand people's reasoning for considering it a "sequel".

But it might as well be a new game. Expansions are supposed to "expand" on an already established game. Awakening is removing stuff from Origins as if it is its own stand-alone game, which it is not.

Expansions do get rid of stuff. This game is huge they cant expand on every little detail. Also the only big thing they are getting rid of is the DLC content. You still have the romance you had in last game you guys are just apart from each other. they say it will be mentioned in the game. So you really cant say they got rid of your romance.
That's like saying Annie Hall is a Spider-Man movie. You can't see Spider-Man, but they haven't got rid of him. He's just off screen.

This. New romances would've been fine if I was playing an Orlesian Warden, but not required. Was much more concerned about the previous romances remaining intact for my surviving Wardens.

Maybe they didn't realize how well they did creating these characters & building up these romances. I'd rather have none than have the old ones erased. It's part of the character I built & the world I enjoyed. I'd be happy to have a few tacked on lines that indicate a continuing relationship, but I'm surprised they'd abandon this angle entirely. I have a lot of friends & family playing the game - everyone talks about the relationship element first. It's one of the more unique parts of DAO, really. The party play can seem old to me - if I miss one more killing blow because I was off tweaking the mage... grrr! But the relationships were unique. (I only tested the Zevran/Leliana ones, but his was quite touching, as far as I got with it. Alastair's was great - he doesn't have a fangroup for nothing - and Morrigan's was actually surprisingly faceted, with her 'I refuse to love you! I love you!' angle.)

Yes, everything you do in origins got effects in the new one, if you live after arch is dead your "The Hero of Ferelden" and its a good game by itself but its not possible to complete twice or thrice like the old if nothing can get between the characters.WreshmanMcGoo wrote...
This should tell you guys ALOT about the length of this expansion. I'd expect 10 hours at the most and there's no way I'm even paying $20 for a 10-15 hour "expansion" let alone $40.
Awakening FAQ 1.8
"Who can I romance in Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening?"
"There are no romance options available in Awakening. The story is more focused on the mission at hand and the new threat to Ferelden."
FAIL
So wait...you know, back in Origins when I had to unite all the armies and races of the land while removing Loghain for power while getting Denerim to fight under my banner while defeating the Blight...I had time for romance. However, when I just need to go kill a few upper level Darkspawn and witchthings that talk... I have no time for romance? Lol yeah, okay.
Awakening FAQ 1.7
"If I had a romance in Origins, does it carry over into Awakening?"
"Romances do not carry forward in Awakening, because you are away from your previous life fighting a new threat."
Wow, can you say epic fail? Then what possible decisions that we made at the end of Origins have anything to do with Awakening? What if you married the Queen Anora or Allistair as King for that matter? They won't be in the expansion? Lol seems like the only thing this expansion is carrying over is the title name; Dragon Age. What about who you lived or died? I doubt that even carries over lol this expansion is sounding worse by the day.
