What's the point of having a hot female elf mage like Valena if you can't even get up on her? Worthless. Just give me a party of Oghrens if this is how it's going to be.

She's just an elf, it doesn't matter. See, that was me being racist towards elves lol

Look at the bright side, when it comes time to re-introduce your Origins romance it'll be that much easier since they won't have to worry about Awakening complicating things.
Aren't complications the spice of life? Everything working out like it should becomes boring quickly.

Too many variables, it can go either way. I like order myself to a point and would rather avoid complications.(I don't have the patience)

This all is really terrible news. I'm actually thinking about pulling my pre-ordrer on this game now cuase I may not even pick it up anymore.
I was really looking forward to having a new romance options. I had a feeling they might pull a ME2 deal here with that. I guess I was wrong, instead they completely detach you from any romance at all, even the one you had in Origins.
What the hell is the point of even playing your Origins character? A lot of what I've done in different files I did to see how those choices would affect Awakening. Most of those had to do with romance. Jeeze, one of my wardens is even a queen. How does can that not be carried over? Doesn't anyone think that something about that is even a little important? Christ.
I'm really, really disappointed. =\\

Much about Awakening sounds great. Seeing Loghain, Oghren, Wynne and Alistair sounds like fun. I'm not even going to miss the DLC loot.
But.....
According to the FAQ there won't be any romances. That is disappointing. A large portion of the fun in Origins were the romances. Navigating the conversational pitfalls of triggering a romance with Lelianna when you're really interested in Zevran. Being dumped by Alistair because you convinced him to become king. All the torturous tricky dialogue choices make the game a great deal of fun.
Agree with everything you just said 100% me too !!
And same think for this :

If the expansion is going to be ridiculously shorter than the original game, why the **** are we paying a stand alone price for it?

This is really disappointing ! I'd hoped Anders would be romance-able if I could not do it with an old..but it seem that not. Romance is a really great part of the origins ...oh yeah this is just an add-on..but add-on with almost the same price than the original game. There would have hope to find the similar contained...
Btw.. sorry if my english is bad..

If these new characters are new grey wardens, the PC is more formally in a command position over them than when leading the party in Origins, so romance would be somewhat inappropriate, as well.
The only thing in the FAQ that's a bit disappointing to me is that I won't be able to import DLC items. That's going to create a bit of an armor/weapon issue, although Alistair is actually using most of that loot.

Wouldn't the length of the expansion preclude the development of romances? Unless we are talking a short fling, the getting to know the other stage, the getting interested stage, the flirting and love stages, would be so compressed that it would feel awkward and unrealistic, I think.
I'm all for the romances in Bio's games, and enjoy them thoroughly, but I like them to be done gradually and stretched over a big chunk of the game. Romances in the expansion (unless they were a continuation) wouldn't fit that mold.
hmm if thats so, how longs the game:blush:, since you put it this way, then maybe its for the best. lol now I guess we can focus more on gameplay and fighting, rather then the lovey dubey stuff. Though I do like the romance though, it was fun to play with

However DLC loot not carrying over and the excuse used is a bit irritating. "It was made for Origins alone" doesn't give valid reason in my opinion. Awakening is made as a continuation for Origins is it not? Why wouldn't the new warden commander of Ferelden wear Warden Commander armor. Not to mention We did pay for the dlc.
And also this, "If a player wants to, they can import their "Dead Warden" into
Awakening and play as them. For the story it's assumed that they didn't
make the ultimate sacrifice, instead somehow survived. A player would
start as the same level with the same gear as their "Dead Warden".
Essentially, if a player doesn't have a problem hand-waiving the story
in this regard - neither do we."
Seriously, I liked the theorized idea that you could import an ultimate sacrifice ending and play as the new orlesian warden but have your choices carry over.
The underlying feeling I get from the faq is that Awakening was rushed and not thought out as well as expansions I am used to.

This makes perfect sense to me, actually. Awakenings takes place only a few months after Origins. Most people will have played a romance with their characters in Origins, and I doubt that the majority of people are playing PCs that took it so lightly that they'd take up with someone else so quickly. I know that I wouldn't have been playing a romance anyway. My PC didn't risk the ritual [edited to remove spoiler] so she could cheat on Alistair.
.
I can't speak for the majority, just myself. I played a romance with all my PCs in Origins, and, yes, some of them wouldn't just take up with a new romancible companion in Awakenings. But I have a few male PCs that took Morrigan at her word when she said it was just casual, and a few females who got dumped by Alistair and who are quite ready to move on. I wouldn't want Awakenings to force a new romance on you, but I was looking forward to the option to have it for those characters who would pursue it. My male Dalish elf never felt quite right about his affair with Morrigan, and I was really looking forward to him finally having a shot at romance with a female elf. And I would enjoy playing my PCs who are still attached to old flames struggling with the temptation of new romance, too.

- The rank difference, you the commander, they the initiates.
- The short timegap, a few months after Origins
I've seen people compare it to ME2, but this is an expansion, not a full game like ME2, it will not be as long as Origins, not be as multi-tiered, if you want new romance plots you might have to wait till Dragon Age 2, and be content with that.
Personally I would be happy to see an Alistair cameo in Vigil's keep as my second in command, since I chose to become Warden Commander at the end of Origins, and Anora queen, Alister who was my romance, chose to join me, and even that small part would make me happy.
But I'm not even expecting something that elaborate.

I can't disagree with any of that, and you make your points well, but I would still find the shorter timeframe an obstacle to any kind of natural progression in a romance. In my opinion, that's better left to a longer expansion, or DA2, when it can get the same kind of care and attention as it did in Origins. Otherwise, you end up with something rushed and probably less meaniingful.
And I would find it a little creepy for the Warden Commander to be romancing one of the new recruits, given that their well being is under his/her direct control.
