I play a lot of games that don't have romances, and Awakenings will be another. I play very few games that have quality character interaction however, and lack of romance doesn't preclude that.

Only thing I see is that people are getting the wrong impression that romance has somehow become integral and mandatory in every BioWare game. It's just an element of the game and it certainly doesn't NEED to be present to make or break the Awakening.MassEffect762 wrote...

I have to say I love this girl (not really figuratively of course). but i mean people have to be stupid to cancel because of no romance and Orghen.Monica21 wrote...
Reading about people canceling pre-orders makes me say "Wha.....?" The romances in Origins take up what, 5% of the game, if that. There's so much more to the story than just a romance. The two new companions mentioned so far have seemed interesting, and I doubt they'll just be there for the purpose of you deciding how to build them.

How does it make them stupid if what they enjoyed most about origins were the romances? If what they like is not going to be in the expansion it is a valid reason to not buy it.
It is similar to music, some people like bands and buy every album they release the day it hits shelves, some will buy albums for the one or 2 songs they enjoy on it later once the price goes down, others buy only the songs they like itunes or rhapsody etc and don't spend money on the ones they don't.

First, nowhere in my post did I say "stupid." I have a strong disagreement with an opinion, but that's it. My opinion is that the game is more than the romance. Much, much more. You have something like a dozen conversations, give a few gifts, and then you're in love. It's not a major part of the game. I had a better time trying to figure out Sten and becoming friends with Leliana (even if she's a bit glitched) than I did with the romances.Azure Zero wrote...

No romance is not a big deal to me, because I think BioWare will come through with strong character interaction. It's not a game-breaker for me, and people who don't play it simply because of that will likely be shunning something they would have liked.

well. The information being provided at this
point is underwhelming.
First off, I don't care about romances, I just like a good story. So Romances don't influence my decision and I could care less.
Second,
in NWN, as long as the skin existed in the toolset and coincided with
existing itemproperties, you could import items via the DM client into
other modules. My knowledge of the DA toolkit is minimal, but why
can't the skins/properties for the DA DLC be added to the core of the game? What about the storage options you get from Warden's Keep DLC?
Finally,
X-packs for other games cost $30
for the same amount of content this x-pack plans to deliver via the
faq. What makes DA: A better than the normal x-pack that I would need
to shell out another $10? If anything is to influence why I should or
should not get the x-pack, its this. In fact, I believe this is a very
big deal and could set a precedent. (Of course, if it was stand-alone, I could understand the price.)
Now, I do understand that Bioware has at least another month to persuade me to buy this x-pack, so I won't jump the gun and say "I'll never buy it", but at the moment, I'm unsure if I should purchase or not.

I´ve made my piece with not transferring old romances, but I´m really, REALLY disappointed ábout the lack of new ones.
There are about 234235 games about killing monsters and threat of the world. Some of them have even better sidequests than "look into the bag and bring 20 X to Y". Romances are something that make Bioware RPGs special.
I was looking forward to Awakening like to christmas and birthday in once, but I´m really not keen on JUST MORE darkspawn. Not on big, small, twinkling, purple, striped and not on TALKING ones.
Fortunatly I haven´t preordered yet.

Yeah so will lots of people, even once outgrown, it would have been stuff to sell. So before importing to awakening be sure to load your epilogue save travel to camp, de-rune and sell all dlc loot, make a save and import that way so you get carry over use from your dlc loot in terms of some gold. Though do we even know your gold will carry over <.<.
As for modded gear, the FAQ reccomends not importing a modded save actually. Similar to NWN they said some mods may work fine while some others may not.

No romance is not a big deal to me, because I think BioWare will come through with strong character interaction. It's not a game-breaker for me, and people who don't play it simply because of that will likely be shunning something they would have liked.
But the point still stands that for allot of people romance was a major (and in some cases the prime) reason for their buying and enjoying DA. Bioware is famous for doing romances in their cRPGs and doing them well, and that has built a significant section of players that is quite interested in those aspects of the game (just look at half the threads on these boards at times and you realize how important a part of the story and character this is to allot of players.
And for these players their interactions with the romances went far beyond 5% of Origins, but add a major dimension to how they role-play their characters, and added depth to their experience of the story. It's fine that for others like yourself it's not major, and obviously fine for you to say so, but you equally have to realize for allot of people romance elements are actually one of the major things they are looking for in Bioware cRPGs, and that the fact that both existing romances from Origins won't be continued or experienced in any significant way combined with no new romances will be a major factor in their deciding to buy the expansion or not.
And for myself, yes it is an issue, there were things I was looking forward to playing out with some of my PCs that obviously I won't be able to play out now in Awakenings, and this as certainly made it much less appealing to me personally, as it looks to offer (again to me personally) a lesser experience. I haven't yet cancelled my pre-order or anything, as I'm hoping the rest of the companion character interaction will be be deep etc, but I also have my doubts on that score now

it's just many bits i read over the past few days, that imply (and that's purely subjective) that the whole thing's not going the direction i thought it could. it's this silent whisper in my head which says "wasted potential".Monica21 wrote...

I should read the faq, but for a quick question you can still use the dlc content in ferelden for the main quest line, right? (I mean like if you started a brand new character, such as doing the joining to be a grey warden, not the expansion etc.) or does installing the xpac make the dlc completely gone? o.o
