Sometimes I feel that the only way for everyone to be satisfied, is to delay Awakening. Maybe THEN they'll maybe. just maybe include DLC, romances, and other stuff everyone's raging about. But since it's releasing very soon, don't know if any delay will happen.

If you're quitting because of lack of romances. Then, yes, I think that's kinda stupid. If you dropped the romances from Origins, you'd still have a group of wonderful companions.

Charming.  How woud you have reacted if the FAQ stated that romance would be the entire focus of the expansion and that all combat would be handled off-camera?

I'd be fine with that.

Just regarding those asking about the romances, by "not continue" it just means you don't have a chance to actively continue the relationship during the course of this adventure. It does not mean that you mysteriously broke up or that the romance is not recognized to exist. I would have liked to have cameos by everyone, but that simply wasn't possible. As it is, you may find some treats awaiting you -- recognizing past decisions can be done in small ways, as well as large (and this applies to things outside of romances, as well).

Okay, that makes me feel better.  If this is just a stand-alone adventure where we leave our loved one at home and head off into danger alone (or with the repulsive alcoholic, whatever) I can deal.  I'm not happy about it and my excitement about the expansion remains greatly lessened, but clearly I've been expecting a LOT more from this xpac than the developers ever had planned.

So besides story- what does this "expansion" expand on anyways?...

If it makes you feel better, think of it as a sequel.  So much complaining could have been avoided if they had used a more appropriate epithet.

How so? Sequels don't allow you to use a character you've already made or have previously introduced characters in the game (not a reference to Oghren, but rather to Alistair and/or Anora, depending on your choice.) You can import your current character and it expands on the already known game lore and history. Hence, "expansion."

*looks at Mass Effect 2* So that one is an expansion?

Sequels are separate games- and I can excuse devs for resetting things like gear for the sake of story and giving new companions, etc., but as many say, expansions should not remove stuffs like romance and loots.

Not 100% correct, Baldur's Gate did did just that.

Yeah Azure for all we no they could have thought of that but it would be a pain for the writers. I think the way they are going now will probably be the best way to go. Your way isnt bad, its actually quite ingenious and i hadn't thought of that but it still would make to many twists that would have to be handled in the next expansion. This way its simpler. Heck my idea was to have it like a fable kinda of romance. You romance a NPC that isnt in your party that stays at the camp. Simple and almost the same but you wouldnt have as many pesky -6 or +4 for every choice you make. Thinking about it thought i found things wrong with mine too, like the fact in new expansion your old romance might be mad at you for cheating on them.

I would argue that it is the easiest way to go about it but far from the best. ( I personally think Awakening was rushed as I mentioned earlier and I would lay the blame on EA for that as I have always known Bioware for quality RPGs and expansions)

Fine its easiest and least likely to make the game become the laughing stock of the gaming world. Is that better? I mean if they wanted to make it perfect they could have worked on the game for a really long time brought back all the characters from the old game and brought in all new characters and made you able to get new romances or keep the old one. Since all this stuff is so easy to do and i mean this would only take them a couple minutes to do. Maybe 100 new spells and talents for each spec and made some really cool kick but monsters and bosses. I'm sure that wouldn't take a long time and you guys would be happy to wait the few years it took to do it all. I never said it was the perfect but its the best way to make as many people happy as possible. They cant please everyone so they have to cut their loses.

Well i guess I said all i can say for now. There are still other expansions they can make that will be better think of this as a way to see how people will react so the next one will be perfect. Maybe next expansion they will work really hard to make new romances and keep the romances from DA O and it will have all the characters from the Origins and Awakening plus new ones. Lets look on the bright side for once instead of trying to make the game seem like dirt before you even played it once or for that matter even now half of whats going on in the story.

Hence why I said Awakening has most likely been rushed. And most likely by EA. Most DA players have prior knowledge of how well bioware did rpgs and expansions from before they were swallowed by EA. Which is where all the animosity towards how awakening is being handled is coming from.

I, personally, am not "quitting" because of lack of romances, but I certainly understand the position of people who are.  If what you loved about a game has been stripped from an expansion/sequel and you decide not to purchase it as a result, the decision not to sink another $40 into the franchise is anything but "stupid."  I'd call it a reasonable decision based on personal preferences and facts presented by BioWare.

I agreed with some of your other responses to a degree, but I disagree with this one. They will likely do the same thign again, and maybe the game will still (Somehow) manage to be breathtaking and I will still purchase it...I just doubt this is so...

The original game was delayed as well as the DLCs, so a delay wouldn't surprise me. That said, it's an expansion. An expansion doesn't have as much content as a full game.

It's not like this is the only expansion BioWare will make for Origins and we're getting it only 4-5 months after the game shipped.

I think it's awesome and look forward to Awakenings and whatever they have planned next. Image IPB

I would happily, HAPPILY, wait for a truly incredible sequel to Dragon Age in which romances, the options and all the other crap I made in the 1st game carry over to the second. 2-3 years for a truly ass-kicking sequel? Bring it on, I'll wait!

Don't get me wrong, I'm psyched for it to come out, but the news hit hard. Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow, after all of the "negative" news sunk in.

@NeroSparda, I didn't played ME or ME2, and probably won't anytime soon.

@Angel of Nessus, I don't see it as a separate game. It's an expansion with existing characters. And as has been said, if you have a character in an existing romance in Origins, it will be commented on in Awakenings, but not pursued further.

@Azure Zero, I haven't played BG in a long time, so point made.

If the devs call something an expansion, then that's what I call it. I can use my existing character with existing stats and (most) of my existing gear, and move forward with the existing story.

Azure let me tell you a secret, EA rushes everything and destroys most games but i mean i have to give Bioware credit they did a great job for the first game with EA and if the second one is half as good as the first one it will still be a really really fun game. I wont deny it seems rushed but hey if it gives me an extra 20 or so hours of game play or plus. Maybe the game wont be as good and EA and Bioware will figure out it w as to rushed and work longer on the next game or who knows maybe the game will kick butt just like Origins did. "I don't want to start a rumor the game is only 20 hours long i just picked a number"

The main thing I've learned from this thread is that there appears to be high demand for dating sim games. I wonder if EA's marketers are watching. It'd be a goldmine.

Before EA bought them, BioWare's last game was Neverwinter Nights, a game largely considered their poorest offering. Since EA bought them, we've had Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age. Two excellent, one good, and one mediocre RPGs, all of which were better than NWN.

I've bought games that looked like they would be quality and not bothered finishing them. I bought games not expecting much and ended up keeping them and replaying them over and over again. Won't know until it's played.

I agree with you worksa but i will give them the benefit of the doubt and at least try the game. I wouldn't complain if it got pushed back to the winter like DA O and they add romances and allow you to use DLC. Well i would be disappointed because i really want to play the game haha.

That is not a secret, which is why I am not laying the blame on bioware. It would be nice if bioware is able to get back more control as to how long they get to work on their games/expansions/dlcs. But sadly the moment EA gots its label on bioware...

I think your right too...Honestly I will likely try it, if that be rent it or even watch a few spoilers on youtube. I just don't see the use in importing my character when nothing but story follows through.

I mean you start at like level 20 or so anyways, you can make your own character with the same stats...But that DLC was a really sneaky blow...

As long as the romance I currently have on my character is acknowledged in Awakenings, I'll be happy.

I'm still confused about not being able to keep your DLC loot.  That just seems silly to me.  Really?

Also.. playing your dead character?  I was hoping maybe this meant our decisions on that character would carry over and effect the Orlesian Warden's adventures.  Guess not.  That's a bit disappointing.

Don't get me wrong I'll still buy this expansion and probably enjoy it a great deal.  Reading the Dragon Age books has only piqued my interest.
