I agree that the companion and relations between characters are what made the game for me. It was the sheer diversity of the interactions etc that took me to that world. I am disappointed that there will be no romance possibilities, but I am still looking forward to the game because the stories Bioware and its writers tell are well worth it.

Gee, I would love to see the FAQ and site Image IPB but I can't cause it just keeps taking me to front page of Bioware site.

And whoever said it was 15 hours? Was it CONFIRMED?! But David Gaider has said that past romances would be commented on! Sure, I'm a bit sad there's no romance (with Anders especially), but I'm not going to cancel my preorder for it because of THAT and the DLC. I want to know stuff about the darkspawn and all that, because I'm curious, and because Dragon Age is a great game. No romance, okay, but doesn't mean there won't be interaction with the companions!

Taken from the DA: Awakening site:

Back to top)There are a total of 6 new specializations in Awakening - two for each class.Back to top)Yes, indeed. There are two new high level spell chains available to all mages and a choice of two new specializations for a total of 24 new spells.Back to top)There are a total of 32 new rogue and warrior talents in Awakening (including their specialization abilities). For those keeping track, that is 56 total new spells and abilities in Awakening.Back to top)There are no new origin stories in Awakening. If you create a new character, there is a new background as the "Orlesian Grey Warden". But you do not play a custom origin story; instead the game reacts at various points to your background, sometimes in dramatic ways.Back to top)We have already revealed both Anders and Velanna as new party NPCs for Awakening. Anders is an apostate mage as well as being a bit of a troublemaker. Velanna is a Dalish mage with a hatred for humans and a burning fury to defend nature and her people against man. We will be revealing more new NPCs before the launch of Awakening.Back to top)The party influence system is again present in Awakening.Back to top)Romances do not carry forward in Awakening, because you are away from your previous life fighting a new threat.Back to top)There are no romances options available in Awakening. The story is focused more on the mission at hand and the new threat to Ferelden.Back to top)Besides Oghren who plays a large role in Awakening, there are cameos and returning characters. For companions you'll potentially meet Loghain, Wynne, and Alistair depending on your decisions in Origins. In regards to NPCs, Master Wade and Herren reprise their roles, with Wade offering to make even more fantastical goods if the player brings his list of ingredients. Loghain's daughter, Anora, may also appear in Awakening depending on your choices in Origins. From David Gaider's novel "The Calling" - both the Architect and Utha are present in Awakening.Back to top)The system specs are the same as Dragon Age: Origins.Back to top)It's the same process to import characters for each platform. Players will go to New Game, select Awakening, and then click on "Import Character". Then players select from a list of available characters. Players can also choose an advanced option to choose a specific save game instead of the most recent save game for that character if they desire.Back to top)If a player wants to, they can import their "Dead Warden" into Awakening and play as them. For the story it's assumed that they didn't make the ultimate sacrifice, instead somehow survived. A player would start as the same level with the same gear as their "Dead Warden". Essentially, if a player doesn't have a problem hand-waiving the story in this regard - neither do we.Back to top)No, you can only respec a character by purchasing the "Manual of Focus" from Herren in the Vigil's Keep courtyard. Herren has an unlimited supply and for a price of 6 gold each, you can use these manuals to respec your character or any of your companions.Back to top)Almost all items are imported with your character. The only exceptions are the Origins promotional items and DLC loot, which were meant for Origins alone.Back to top)If you've user mods or custom content, there is a chance that it will not work with Awakening. We expect it will work similarly to Neverwinter Nights where some mods are unaffected by the expansion, and others are. We advise players to use un-modded characters to import.Back to top)Awakening will come with the latest executable patch / title update for Dragon Age: Origins.Back to top)Yes, Awakening will be available on Steam and via other digital download services. It is also available for download for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In Europe and other PAL video/game region countries, the PS3 version is only available as a download..Image IPBImage IPB Image IPB Image IPBImage IPB

"...Almost all items are imported with your character. The only exceptions are the Origins promotional items and DLC loot, which were meant for Origins alone..."

This does NOT make me want to buy more DLC. The cool gear was much of the appeal of the DLC to many people. And, those who played through RtO after the final onslaught probably didn't even get to use most of that gear... ever.

Funny how the FAQ reads "... the only exceptions..." as if the DLC stuff wasn't exactly what many people were thinking about... at least those who were actually concerned about this question.

Aside from items, what really bites is losing the tactics that I enjoyed with Shale. I suspect that there are other warriors, rogues, and mages available as companions, but Shale was unique and a lot of fun IMO.

So, yeah. I think that the DLC buyers are getting screwed in multiple ways really.

Thank you very much, Bratt1204 :)

I didn't use DLC items, I use toolset (PC ftw XD), so I'm good and all. The only mods I have are custimozation and I hope they work XD but overall, very excited for Awakening :)

So the ps3 download thing is legit-ish, this is getting irritating, as i have two diff sources saying two diff things, pretty much every game store has it as disc based & bioware even advertises the disc cover yet they turn around and say it's DLC only?

I would normaly take the source as the legit version but considering how last minute bioware is about change'n things i've no idea what to believe with this (going by dragon ages delayed release on ps3 to being reset to other systems release, the rto mess....and so forth)

So either i waste precious HDD space (really need to upgrade....) and buy one version of it and account share it with my sister or it comes out on disc and i will buy it prebought by someone else, either way i will make sure bioware does not walk away with $80 on this disaster

and i learn this from a forum user and not bioware, way to fail harder bioware! (and ty for clairifying forum user guy)

Still i'm tempted to just get the DLC version on a new account, use 2 $20 psn cards (certinly not use'n bank cards :P) then just give out free account share copies to as many ps3 owners here as it'll let me, which is between 5-10, just to remind bioware who they're @##$!ing with

This is shocking. I love Bioware, but this is EXTREMELY disapointing and totally unlogic.

One of the funniest things in a RPG is to build up a character with great epic gear. When a RPG gets an expansion the most natural thing is that you start up with the gear you collected and even paid for earlier. For me: to lose the Warden Commander set is very sad.

I hope anyone from Bioware can give a good reason for this. For now it sounds like lazyness. I hope you wont destroy the fantastic Origins-game with rushed expansions.

Also disaponted that the romance is gone. Was a very important part of Origins. However - if the romance still lives in the background it is not so terrible. Really hope it will be possible to import alle gear though. All fans should push Bioware here.

Dragon Age is - in my opinion - the best singleplayer RPG ever. It is fantastic, and I cant believe that I have played a 60hrs game 3 times. Then again; it would be sad to see this masterpiece destroyed with a rushed expansion.

Btw: Hope there will be a new patch for Origins soon. The story bugs at the end of the game if you chose to not make Alistar king are terrible. How many times do they call him king even if he is not?

Quite the whinning already. Your imported BG1 character lost all his gear in BG2, and IIRC, your imported BG2 character lost all his equipment in BG2 expansion (not sure about this one though). Same thing for NWN2 and SotB. Bioware can easily find a reason to explain it, or to reset gear without taking all your "character building" (given how "character building is lame in DA:O, that would hardly be a killer anyway).

The romances in DAO are silly as hell. Even worse than cheap Hollywood romance. It's pathetical that you can get the 3 available romances to tell you they want you without even trying after 10 hours of playing. Ridiculous. Please take them away and bring back the old BG2 romances. Safiya (whom DAO devs made fun of several times) is way better than the 4 romances of DAO added together.

I love when people make things up.  If you lost all your equipment in the BG2 expansion you'd probably get creamed 5 minutes into it when an assassin shows up to kill you.  BG1 and BG2 are two separate games and thus it's completely reasonable to have a gear wipe (which is preventable anyway by simply pausing the game immediately as you start a new game, then dropping everything before irenicus knocks you out the first time).  BG2 and its expansion did not have a gear wipe and romances were carried over and built on (sometimes in incredibly hilarious ways, hi baby in the inventory, nothing in DAO is anywhere near that silly).  For the record you don't lose your gear going into BG1's expansion either.

I don't have any of the DLC gear but I can completely understand being annoyed by losing it, and I don't think bringing up NWN2 as your sole game to prove the rule is going to hold much water.  NWN2 was a rather shoddy title.  I never managed to finish it because the combat was so annoying.

The baldur's gate series remains to this day the standard.  DAO is supposed to be a spiritual successor.  It sounds to me like this expansion is comparable to the expansion of BG1 (random tangent off the main plot entirely with little relevence to the main character) only instead of being incorporated as a subplot in the main game like BG1 did, they're making it separate like the BG2 expansion (which was a completely different type of expansion, continuing and eventually completing the main plot).  Personally based just off the description I think the thing could have been done as a deeproads subplot because I found it incredibly silly how little I could do in there.

In any case, I don't have much stake in this argument but I despise when people make things up to try and prove their point.

TL:DR   The BG1-2 gear wipe isn't comparable (and is preventable) and neither games expansion came with a gear wipe.

Yes, I'm pretty sure they do (at least I read on many sites that they do, including the official PS3 magazaine site). However I haven't actually tried it myself yet. The only down side is, I've heard, is that if the PS3 game has downloadable content it has to be downloaded from the same region as the game, meaning you wouldnt be able to have any DLC for the game.

Gah! Foiled again.  Guess I will just have to hope I have enough space for such a large download.

I know, rubbish isn't it - sad as it is I wanted a nice shiny box and manual. I really might just buy the xbox version and have done with it.

Taken from Awakening FAQ:

"1.7 – If I had a romance in Origins, does it carry over into Awakening? (Back to top)

Romances do not carry forward in Awakening, because you are away from your previous life fighting a new threat."

Seriously? So, if my PC married Alistair and became Queen (Princess-Consort) I am just 'away' from my previous life in Awakening? I am all of a sudden no longer married - right after my lavish wedding (this is set only about 6 months after Origins)? How does that make any sense? And I am going to be spending money on this expansion, why?

I just had the same thought - beside the romance options and dialogues I will miss inbetween the quests and fights Image IPB greatly miss.

And it makes no sense to buy the game if I can't continue the relationship with Alistair I chosed before with my Char - seems pretty awkward to me.
That was what made it simple unique - If Bioware this take away - ....
then I can greatly spare my money and play Dungeon and Dragons Image IPB

No, I don't think so. Alistair, Wynne and Logain will make cameos based on your decisions in Origins. If Alistair is king he'll appear like seen in the trailer. If Wynne didn't leave with Shale and she stayed as court adviser then she'll make a cameo. Same with Logain if you recruited him into the Grey Wardens. Only recruitable old companion will b Oghren. At least, that's how I've understood things so far.

Sad sad, because NWN2 is much more worthy of the title "spiritual successor of BG2" than DAO will ever be (I'm no fanboy of either game btw).
That being said, what are your games that prove that there should be no gear reset between expansions? I myself never claimed it was a rule. I said it happened, and wasn't a game-breaker that deserved endless posts of whining. Honestly, I find MotB to be one of the best expansion available for any RPG (plot-wise) and couldn't care less about the gear reset.
Furthermore, you can get DAO dlc's gear at level 6 or 7 and keep it until the fight against the archdemon. Talk about character-building *rolleyes*.

It was preventable through a lame and useless exploit. And it's indeed not comparable. While BG1 & 2 were supposed to be centered around the same character, DAO Awakenings offers the opportunity to start a new character. If anything, the gear reset between BG1 and 2 should have been caused more whining than this one (which isn't even a gear reset).

So yeah, get off your high horse and stop putting things in my mouth. That will grant you some credit.

YOU  brought up BG as an example of why we should stop "whinning" - despite not even being sure whether your character did or didn't lose their gear....  as it turns out, in the comparable case - the EXPANSIONS to the games, you DON'T lose any gear you collected.  Yes, you CAN start a new character, but if it gives you the opportunity to carry on an existing character, then it would be nice to carry on with the gear the character had spent time and effort collecting.  Nobody put any words in your mouth, just corrected a hazy assumption you made....
I'd get off my high horse, but it was DLC so doesn't exist any more..... :P

I'm sorry but I have to call out a BioWare person on this. This is where BioWare people post so why should it be so hard to answer a simple question? WHY can we not carry over ALL of our gear to an expansion? What make this not possible and why do something that you KNOW will anger your fan base especially after the RTO problems?
