Yup. No romance. No item from DLCs.
All is in the FAQ of the expansion.
It would have been april 1st. I would have thought it was a joke.
Sadly this is not the case.

Guys, everyone who's boo-hooing about the lack of the DLC content in
Awakening should consider that we're going to be at much higher levels
with --apparently-- higher tiers of items anyway

There is only 10 more lvl accessible. And we probably won't get the full 10 lvls by the end of the expansion. More like 6 or 7. They must leave some room for smaller DLCs that will come later, so that we can still xp in those.

Not to mention that items froms DLC were good for me for the whole game, even better than close-to-end-game drops. My guess is that we  won't find better for a couple of hours into the game, and not until some boss fights rather than right away.
At first we will have the same standard pieces that only drop so that we can sell them and make some moneyz :P.

And it also means that those like me, will have to start butt naked. Which makes no sense. I thought DLCs were still part of the main story. Why would I leave behind those items while keeping those are non-DLC? What's the logic? What's the reason (story-wise) ?

As I said. This is seriously not cool.

You pansies have got to be kidding me. I can't believe you are all complaining about this stuff. You act like every other game before Mass Effect 2 allowed you to import saved characters. You should just be happy you don't HAVE to create a whole new character...because before Bioware, that's what you had to do. Besides MMO's how many games can you think of in the past 10 years that have come up with this much new content for a game just released, this quickly. Shame on all of you.

I can understand some of the negative emotions that people are getting but seriously get over yourselves. The dlc issue is easyily explained since the most probably will be gear that surpasses it available. I have my doubts that my warden commander armor, helm of honleath, duncans sword wielding rogue will wind up naked at the beginning of the expansion. Bioware is not that short sighted ffs... (and yes I will be laughing my ass off if I wind up being wrong :P)

Perhaps as a morrigan fan it was a bit more obvious that seeing her again so soon was unlikely so the lack of romance was forseeable to me but in every relationship you will find yourself away from your spouse at times and I doubt they will ignore that we want at least a mention of the relationships. Those that romanced allistair will most probably get a few more sentences out of him than those that did not, it would in fact surprise me if they would disregard those decisions. David gaider did mention how previous choices can be either mentioned in a short but sweet manner or in a major plot changing way, so stop hyperventilating and try to read between the lines a bit.

Will your romance and choices carry over in the way you have imagined? Probably not, but if you could imagine every step along the road of your pc write a fanfic about it and face that you are playing a story where you can affect a lot more than most games but you are not some god that is capable of making your will the truth. A game is about overcoming the challenges your character faces, not deciding what all npc's will do and wont do, who dies and lives etc. So enjoy the ride or get the hell off the buss...

Past game didn't make me pay for a 20 mns DLC which most important trait is to give us a full set of armor. (warden's keep, Return to Ostagar) just to take it away in the next expansion.
In RtO it's going to be even worse because most player will have the set after having finished their game. So basically. You finish RtO, you get your sexy armor set. There is no monster left in the world because you finished the game and killed probably most of them. And next thing you have Awakening. And you can't import the armor set you paid for. Which you didn't know about at the time.

In the end you are fini with that. Alright. I don't agree, but fine. I guess it means you are the lucky one. You won't be outraged when you'll actually play and loose all your stuff. But you should not dismiss others opinions just because you disagree. Not when there is this much posts and topics made about the same stuff.

no romance! No buying this expansion!

If I wanted to just play hack and slash type D&D I'll wait and spend my money on another game or pull out an old one and play. Awakening doesn't sound like it will satisfy me but rather be a big disappointment.

OH and another thing, this sounds like a big cash cow for Bioware! Think about it, we paid extra money for DLC, only not to be able to use them in Awakening, Why? Because Bioware, will sell new DLC primo content for better armor and such.

I'm not falling into that trap.

How exactly you see the change from DAO to hack and slash happening in between the main game and the expansion I fail to see. It has not turned into diablo, you just won't be able to kiss your favourite character every 10 meters in a dungeon...

It is also quite funny how people use the term cash cow as some grave insult. Cash cow is a state in the product life cycle, not some grand capitalist scheme to f*ck the world. If it took you this long to figure out that dlc is a case of milking the cash cow... well its your choice what you do with yer cash, i care not ^^

Mass Effect 2 = brand new game
DAO Awakening = expansion pack

Why you would pick ME2 to compare this to boggles the mind.  You also have no clue what you are talking about, as the vast majority of expansion packs that I can think of did indeed let you 'import' the character, as it was just an extention of the game.  It sounds like you are incredibly confused.

Romance, not that concerned with that as much as I am if the interaction with the other NPC's has shrunk since there is no need to put all that romance stuff in there. The NPC interaction, romance or not, was a big highlight of DAO.

As for not carrying over DLC loot I guess I'll have to walkthrough all my importables and figure out if they have anything (Helm of Honnealth) that won't be making the trip and "borrow" something else from one of the NPC's that will come through with me.

This is unrelated, but i'm not sure where to ask, but is there any news on another Dragon Age novel by David Gaider? The Stolen Throne and The Calling were AWESOME.

Currently reading The Calling now. Gotta say, it's awesome. I did not really like, nor understand, Maric in DA:O but the book makes him very intresting. RTO definitly takes on a more emotional meaning after knowing more about him. Also, I don't know why, but I thought The Withered from Awakening was The Architect in the trailer. I guess, it's the guy with the funky mask though.

Well let's look at it financialy with the no DLC in awakening, now RTO is all but pointless, it has no long term impact or any unique abilities or say a party chest that would last you the entire game, warden's keep is useful regardless of awakening's poor design choices thus warden's keep for the most part is still worth the $7 while RTO offers nothing but some gear for $5 & has no lasting value

(and last i saw the power of blood abilities do carry over)

So it's 50/50 on DLC fortunetly Shale was free(less you bought off ebay) or i'm sure you'd be storming the bioware offices (though doesn't the shale coupon expire when awakening releases? odd.....) RTO is of course more useless for p3 owners who get the DLC 5 days before awakening, i HIGHLY urge ps3 owners to save their $5 (get re5 or uc2 dlc maybe?)

Beyond that i recall awakening have'n some 500 odd pieces of new gear (more reskinned massive armor yay!) the dwarf rouge female (who for some maker forsaken reason has a tattoo beard on her face) had a kickass unique armor and weapons in one pic, so i'm sure we'll be regeared quickly enough

I can't say I approve of this decision of BioWare and EA's on this. Alot of people paid for their armour and gear as DLC. I was lucky most of my DLC came with the game for redeem code. Not allowing people to import their gear that they paid for for "Awakenings" is wrong in my humble opinion.  Word will get around they are doing this and people won't be willing to pay for any special DLC items in the future.  Hugh mistake/decision in my opinion.

I'm also not liking the idea of no romance with "Awakenings" regardless of who you romanced DA:O.

Can I ask why it's called "Dragon Age: Origins Awakening" and not "Dragon Age: Awakening"?

Aren't we done with the "Origin" thing? Isn't that's why we begin Awakening at Level 25?
