Wait... no DLC item transfer? So when my Mage transfers over to Awakening with Winter's Breath, Helm of the Deep, and The Lion's Paw, what will happen? Will I suddenly be stripped of said equipment and abruptly become weaponless? Will I get equivalent "stock" gear? I can understand programming difficulties, but to suddenly leave us naked and defenseless isn't going to make people happy...

EDIT: Also, while LOOT will not transfer from DLC, what about spells/talents? Will "Power of Blood" vanish as well?

I dont recommending becoming excited for this expansion, my fellow gamers, since many features have been limited, such as Romance (no romance, according to the guy with a stick up his ass answering the FAQs), which is factor in which the writers ruled out (Its going to cost them many buyer losses, and if not, it is because the buyer would be oblivious to the insulting features, hence many rants like mine will be appearing all over the internet.) I expected much better from David Gaider, yet I am incredibly dissapointed.

Oh CRAP >:( now I have to re-do all my damned endings and pawn off or chuck my DLC gear on the others. What a rip :( (Whine? yes....sorry, was hoping all the DLC was usable for the expansion like other games have done).
It would make the DLC gear worth more if it could carry on into the expansion. And no time to put a romance plot in...bugger.
And I am supposing the new talents/skills will not be a two way for origins?
OK I know DA is not other games...but when you consider most others do this would it be so hard for DA? it makes it way more fun. Being able to take DLC stuff would be the cincher though

More effort could of gone in here, way more. I expected big things of this game and it sounds like it's going to be a cop out for anything past DA: Origins. What a rip off. I won't be buying DLC stuff anymore if this is what happens. Oh wait, I already did for DAO!  well and truly ripped off.

Site not work for me but wow, just because DLC won't carry over? You know, they COULD make DLC for Awakening that would be MUCH better then the Origins DLC! And yes, it is sad there won't be romance, but if you were in a relationship in last game, then it will be commented on. So calm down. Give the writers and developers a break! It isn't easy, you know; it's a LOT of work.

Right... poor dear developers, their work is a lot of work! Oh noes! We thank them with our money every time we buy something. They don't need your nor my sympathy, they need our cash. How hard or easy it is to do your job has nothing to do with how attractive the end product is to the customer.
And the fact that there could be more DLC that is compatible with Awakenings is irrelevant. Such DLC would cost more money. People want to use the gear they already paid for. And whilst it could easily become outdated, there are certain items in the DLC that are important because of what they are or who they belonged to, so it is understandable that people want to keep them when "expanding" their game.

The DLC decision is questionable - I certainly dumped most of the other gear I was carrying around. (Warden Commander or nothing for my tanks!) It won't matter for my mage - I hated, hated, hated the blood mage gown. My elf girl does NOT want to look like Wynne's grandmother! But my guy-human was incredible in that set! I don't want him boxed up in dwarf armor! Noooo!

It's also questionable to have us pay for DLC that did nothing really other than give us great gear. Armor, weapons, trinkets. (I liked the WC better than Cailans, but either way)

And what about the skills you learn in WK? What happens to those? (those were glitchy - and the warden shield that you can get after 50 tries does weird things to Duncan's later) But I'd like to know if my mage can continue the grotesque 'hang self with blood gushing' technique when she's not in the mood for a mana pot. Btw - I have to wonder why NO ONE ever notices what she's up to back there. Some blood talents are subtle (ish) - the hanging one is not. For all the 'blood magic is evvvvil,' no one cares. Maybe Alastair is too smitten - ok. ('No, no - she did not just hang herself, blood didn't just spurt to the ceiling...') But wouldn't Morrigan say, "Um - can I do that?" Wouldn't Wynne combust?

Fexelea: You hit the nail on the head. These are not freebies, the developers are not making a fix for world poverty or doing rocket science! it shouldn't be that hard to give the customers what they want if they want our cash. If it's an expansion it should expand the game, not a side hack pack that is irrelevant to the rest of DOA and that is pretty much what it sounds like it is shaping up to be.

I'm not sure I understand everyones concern about not having DLC items... I mean this expansion will offer further progression and higher levels wouldn't you want new equipment anyways.

Posted Image  Relax, this is an expansion of the game, not a progression of the storyline.

It expands upon what has already been given in DA:O.  No, they could not carryover the DLC goodies because not everybody would have bought into them.  Awakenings is a separate side-quest that not everybody is going to buy - that's why they cannot include any relationships that they'd be forced to carryover to DA2 (whenever it comes out).

And they have expanded a lot:  higher level cap, more talents, more skills, more spells, more items, more companions, more monsters, more of the DA world revealed.  More of Ohgren - good or bad you may judge for yourself.

Bottomline:  if you don't like it, don't buy it.  Posted Image

Just don't whine when DA2 comes out and everyone else is uploading their level 30 chars with expanded skills, talents, spells and items.  I suspect that DA2 will include all the DLC gear and additions from Awakenings.

A major reason anyone purchased DLC was for the extra items. In fact it was a major selling point of the DLC. To not be able to use them in the expansion is weak. Yes, the new gear in the expansion will probably end up being better, but it doesn't really make sense why you can't use it.

Out of all the things you could possibly complain about in Awakening, some of them legitimate, you choose romance sidequests to direct your rants toward. That is amazing.

Yeah, Bioware has pretty much discredited whatever DLC they release in the future.

Pretty much. If its not obvious that the DLC's are a scam by now, there's not much else to convince people with.

I wonder what other monsters, npcs, places we will see. Anyone know when the next character update will be, I'm sure all the new party members will be interesting but so far the two revealed seem a bit.... meh lol

Not all of the romances were 'side-quests' or distractions. For my HNF it is the foundation of my story continuation; she is to marry Alistair, become Queen (Princess-Consort) and jointly rule Ferelden with him.

True, the romances in DA:O were pretty well done and, in Alistair and Morrigan's case, connected to the main story well and left you emotionally invested in a lot of the key decisions in the game. I was actually interested in how things were going to turn out with Morrigan at the end - and what an appropriate, in-character ending it was.

However, I think it's completely stupid to not buy Awakening because you can't have a romantic sidequest with an NPC, especially given the expansion's shorter length and more narrative focus. Also, ElvenLass was being rude by saying that the person who answered her question regarding whether or not there would be romances had a "stick up his ass", which I didn't like either. Guy was just doing his job and telling her what the expansion would entail, why be so hostile?

There are plenty of legitimate complaints folks here have raised about the expansion (DLC loot not transferring, Ultimate Sacrifice ending, etc.) but to make a gimmicky sidequest that has usually sucked in most BioWare games prior to Dragon Age your deciding factor on whether or not to purchase a game is absurd. The game is an RPG, not a dating sim. The romance options in the game worked to a large extent because they were, for the most part, well-developed characters with lots of good qualities and flaws that you could be interested about regardless of whether they were a romantic option or not.

Adding romances just because it's a BioWare game and a BioWare game MUST have romances is a really silly way of looking at it. It makes things very formulaic, so I welcome a bit of a change of pace.

I think ASIDE from the romance aspect...our companions were interesting people. I loved trying to figure out Sten. I got a charge out of Shale..she was funny. Alistair..well I liked him, he had his funny moments. Morrigan, sometimes I would call her a witch under my breath, just because I just "knew" I shouldn't have brought that unsympathetic wench along to Redcliffe hehe. :D

But I have gotten her to 100% approval without romancing ..BFF though. :)

Zevran..eh..I dunno I'll do the romance ..just because there is an achievement attached, but currently..as I am working on it..its hard to ..focus on, he just is not that interesting to me.

Whereas..if we had been given a Sten romance option..I would have loved that one. I have had him to 100% too a few times. :)

I admittedly have loved the romances, and i have openly expressed some reservation on certain aspects of this expansion which I won't rehash ad nauseum... but you know, what Feraele said was also correct for me. Even taking OUT the romance option, I found our companions for the most part really interesting people. Actually, some of my *fave* people were not romanceable ( although I would, in a heartbeat, at least twice with several :D ) Sten was fantastic, I really grew to <3 him and I nearly took off on Alistair *and* Zevran with him in the end. No bull with him, it is what it is. He was hard to get to know, comparatively and respect was earned. This was Sten. I also admit to having a completely unhealthy obsession with Loghain ( that I insist is OK because my husband tolerates it lol) but neither of these characters were romanceable, and yet both intriguing. Look at the fan base for Gorim! Or Cullen! These are characters that you stand no chance of even a long lasting *friendship* with (outside mods) and yet they draw and keep your attention.

And yet I have publically also shared some feelings on certain things when i felt something has let down the original game. As have others. Which is cool, everyone is entitled not only to their own opinions but to vote with their wallets. Such is life.

Why do I say this? Because regardless of what I *think* or may not think, hope or even fear.... Awakenings will stand on its own in terms of how well accepted it is.

I admit, I had ZERO desire to play this game when it first came out. Too big of a deal was made of the ingame relationships or sex and I found it too... hmmm, what is the word...... well, I didn't want to buy into the hype. I can't even remember what made me rethink it, but I think it choices had an effect on the world, so I rented it for PS3. Then bought it for PS3. Then got it for PC. Then when my husband missed me bought it for him too. LOL

God, I have gone on too long, this is why rum and forums don't work so well. My point: Sometimes what you THINK will be, and every educated guess in the world doesn't explain your experience when you are faced with the reality of it.

I am back to being wildly EXCITED about this expansion. I loved this game and don't want it to end. Might I be disappointed? Sure, of course that is a possibility just as is the fact that every doubter *may* be blown away by what they give us to replace what people feel has been taken away. We won't *know* until it happens.

I will wait and see. I am open to the future, scary though a romanceless, dogless, dead-warden rebirthed future may be. I still bet Bioware delivers something entertaining and unforgettable. After all, their bottom line depends on it too.

^ Indeed.

IMO, Awakenings does not look like an expansion. It looks like and epilogue, a Dragon Age: Origins 1.5

Not quite a sequel, not quite a full game, not quite an add-on, not quite an expansion.
