I was under the impression that if one uploaded a character profile prior to the release date that an in-game easter egg (some kind of ring) was to be had presumably through an activation code. Well I had uploaded a profile prior to release date and no easter egg was to be had. Or is it just egg on my face .

If you upload a character with the CC and it shows up on the site, your game will go out and download the Lucky Stone ring as DLC. You can do it after release, I did. Make sure you have a bioware/Ea account. make sure you logged into it when you started the CC, make sure you saved and uploaded the character. Wait 2-24 hours. Make sure you're logged into the same account in the full game. Check your DLC and see if you have the item. go to "Profile" -> "Your registered game promotions" in the sidebar. It will list any such special items you've gained, including the lucky ring. That page should show it pretty much instantly after your first CC upload.
