for me it was the game Spore I remember following that game loving the screenshots but after the first two levels the gameplay gets really bad. It all seems disconncted from each other. The space stage is boring with repetative missions and no real reason to want to explore anything. I thought it was going to play out more like civilization in some ways definetly one game that didn't live up to what was promised
Biggest video game let down?

Fallout Brotherhood of Steel XB,PS2 awful in every sense of the word lol. classic form of taking a valued IP and putting it on the box which contents were the equivalent of a turd.

Perfect Dark Zero might have been an abhorrent single player game and have fallen far short in comparison to it's forebear, but it was Xbox Live's killer app at launch. It showed the promise of online shooters, led the way in fact. I just wish I could relive those months I spend playing Infection on Urban. Those really were the days...
My biggest let down is probably Haze anyway. I can't believe Free Radical went from making excellent, fun arcade shooters in the form of TimeSplitters to releasing probably the worst shooter ever made. Haze is one of the ugliest PS3 games in existence. It's more like a PS2 game than anything. It's first level is set in a jungle and yet it felt like you were walking through leafy corridors.
The mechanics too, were awful. The storyline, cringe worthy. I don't think anyone in the world could enjoy playing as drug addled red necks, let alone survive the abysmal cut scenes with them that made you want to chuck your controller at the telly. Haze destroyed every shred of credibility Free Radical once possessed and it's little wonder that they went into administration.
No-one wanted to publish anything of Free Radical's after that. So now we'll never see TimeSplitters 4 :-(

I have a few.
Modern Warfare 2 was severly underwhelming
Final Fantasy X-2 and XII
Suikoden IV
Those are the ones that stand out in my mind.

Wolfenstein. Best example for destroying a perfect franchise, pissing of a huge fanbase, including several competitive leagues. Bravo, Activision!

This! This is why i have to laugh when people say Bethesda killed Fallout with Fallout 3 when they actualy saved the Fallout series. Interplay's last two Fallout games sucked Fallout Brotherhood of steel and Fallout tactics, Fallout 1 and 2 are classics but then they went down hill, thank god Bethesda made FO3.
RE5 was a major let down, it was way too short and Dead space came out a few months before and that made every other survival horror to come out in recent years look pathetic.

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.
The original TLJ was a point and click masterpiece IMO. The puzzles were fun and intuitive, the voice acting was great, the characters were spunky and lovable(Crow was awesome), and the story was really great.
I waited nearly 7 years for Dreamfall to come out, and when it finally did it was such a huge disappointment. Zoe had to be the most boring heroine ever, April turned emo, it was more like an interactive movie with a few easy puzzles thrown in, and in the end I felt like half the story was missing, so I was utterly confused as to what the hell was going on.

I actually enjoyed Tactics for the most part, the story was absolutely out there, but the game itself wasnt bad.
Personally I dont think Bethesda killed the Fallout series, they brought in new fans, but did they kill off some of the things that made Fallout, well Fallout, yeah they did. At this point though even the die hard Fallout fans in turn whether they admit it or not, played Fallout 3 and after the WTFOMG WHAT DID THEY DO!!!, they enjoyed it. I did, definitely buggy but the game is huge, so it was expected.
