similar attitude to isolate themseles
nomads that are scattered

yeah, but - no offence - at least in history, a lot of nations were suspicious against the jews so that they isolated themself as well, the language and names remind me strongly of hebrew... and according to jewish folklore they created the artificial entities called golems and lost control of em... like the geth... maybe its just my imagination...

more referring to the "old jewish culture"...

i am wondering if real world cultures were the inspiration for all alien races

I live in Eastern Europe, and have to deal with them on a daily basis. Don't you dare tell me what they're like because "there was a camp near  [your] home" when you were young.

They're somewhat isolationist in that they build (illegal) villages of opulent mansions (amusingly enough, without running water or sewage), they're only citizens of this country when it suits them, they like appearing on TV to show themselves off with solid gold ties, or huge-ass gold necklaces with gigantic christian crosses and huge wads of euros. Oh, yeah, and they're also responsible for the vast majority of organized crime around here, and they have at least 5 or so kings, all of which rule over everyone.

Same thing here on a far lesser scale, same basic idea however.

The same applys to ... the western world notion of them, of course THAT is a gross generalization but I can take a pretty good guess of what country you are from, nothing like having a sizable ninority to push a certain button.
