damn...I'd rather not buy the PC version after getting the 360 version (I got the original on 360 so I wanted to be able to transfer my saves), but I keep seeing stuff like this, pc owners can get a whole mess of casual clothes...more hair options...*sigh*

Generally unless its a terrible port (which you can usually find out before buying yourself) a game is always better to get on the PC as opposed to console.

Technically they didn't mean for us to get this stuff, it isn't like they gave us instructions.  Someone just figured out how to modify the game.  Hell, we couldn't do it at all if someone hadn't figured out how to parse the .ini file and then wrote a piece of software to allow us to modify it, don't blame Bioware.

That said... someone always figures this stuff out, which is why I always buy the PC versions :)
Other than better graphics and extremely short load times, of course.

Even though BioWare never meant for this content to get out, there is still the fact that the casual clothing options are limited anyway. They should use what the modders do as a basis for any future releases of new casual clothing.

Only if you have a PC that can support it.

I've been modifying my own coalesced.ini eh... any chance you might be able to point out the lines I need to add and where to add them?

Delete the original "ID=0 - 3"

Did you keep the receipt?  Maybe you can do an exchange, hehe.
I know what you mean about save transfers, I had the same dilemma at first.  I originally got ME for the XB, but I realized that I wanted to get ME2 for PC, so I got a copy of ME for PC and played through just before the release.  I can't tell you how much better it is.. the load times are WAY faster, the textures seem sharper, plus there are all sorts of little ways to modify the game.  Of course by that time ME1 was cheap, so it was less of an issue.

The other thing to consider is... how good is your PC?  You don't wanna buy the PC version and then realize that your framerate is bad, or that you have to drop the texture quality to play it.

I mean in general with the modability of PC games.  some games get modded beyond recognition, or end up creating a better game out of it than the devs.   Take a game like oblivion, or FO3.   I havent played oblivion in over a year, but I swear I had hundreds of new armor sets and weapons, tons or add on areas to the maps, great user made missions and companions.   and the fact with bethesda's editor, even non-coders can rather easily mod the game.  Now console users REALLY got the shaft with those games.

I'd say modifying the game could potentially effect whether or not it files will be importable to the next game. I am not a mod, but I wouldn't do it myself.

this is exactly the sort of money sink DLC they should do.. I mean, It's most likely no more than an hour or so of work for them to do * lol

though I have a feeling they wont unless people were really really vocal about more casual clothes options ( and Im not fond of any of the ones we currently have)

Damn mods >.<

Xbox owners may be annoyed we can tweak a few things on the PC, but we have to deal with poor interface decisions that came with being co-developed with the console.

I don't seem to have the "Mass Effect 2\\\\BioGame\\\\Config\\\\PC\\\\cooked" location on my PC. It just goes up to Config and then I have three .ini files. None of which are titled "coalesced".

Interesting. If I try to use the file included with the link at the beginning, or I modify my coalesced.ini file using wollert's instructions, the game crashes at launch.

Thats actually not to hard in this day in age.  Seeing as most games are developed for the console and ported over for PC, the rapid graphical advancement in game tech the PC experienced in the past simply isnt there, thus your not required upgrade to keep up like you were in the past.  While hardware for the PC on the other hand continues advancing, but the need simply isnt there and its actually making PC building cheaper.

I mean back in like 1999-2006.   If I had a game and played a sequel 2 years later in that window for the pc, undoubtedly it would not perform as well on the same machine.

I am running ME2 on the same machine I ran ME1 on.  ME2 actually runs better.  I have played no games that have required any sort of upgrade since I built this pC about 2.5 years ago.  To build the box, if cost me about as much as a launch day PS3 (I also own a PS3, for any console exclusives I want to play, and the fact xbox exlusives usually come out for PC as well, so I get the best of both worlds).

So my point is you cant even compare PC gaming 10 years ago and its upgrade hassles to today.   The popularity of consoles and developing for consoles is somewhat forcing a generation and graphical standard for the PC, thus not requiring upgrades.   Once you have a PC that can handle console graphics you should for the most part, be good to go.

Hm. Just tried the new ini. Very interesting, its odd seeing my femshep run around in a dress instead of the usual captain uniform.

You have to re-compile the ini, the game is not meant to be modded but someone compiled a ruby script that recompiles it to be compatible, which is why it´s impossible to edit DLC items so far as they have their own ini... unless you run with the pirate crowd but I am awaiting a kind soul to allow me to edit and still be all leigt.

This thread has most you need to know about modding ME2

That's awesome, Bioware totally needs to release some DLC that does that; perhaps I'm a bit strange, but I don't like tinkering in the game files .. kinda makes me feel that I'm disrespecting Bioware's artistic vision.

Or something.

You need a Coalesced.ini compiler.  The game checks a file header on the .ini file to find the size of the compacted ini file, you cannot simply edit it with Notepad.  Go to this thread:

http://www.gamefaqs....&topic=53285451

There is a link for downloading a Compiler, it is very simple to use.  Just edit the separate .ini files in the included directory, save them, and then run the compiler.  It will automatically find and replace the Coalesced.ini with the modded version and make a backup.  There is also a button to reset the .ini to defaults if you royally screw something up.

if only i could wear my sort of biker outfit instead of my armor it would be nice , it even have the slots to fit guns in the back and on the legs to support a pistol/smg, Miranda wears a latex suit in battle so why cant we wear casual outfits in missions ?

I have seen people be succesful with equipping casual outfits as armor, but you get the helmet-voice cause it reads as a full armor.

I get the console versions of the game for the best experience (controller > keyboard mouse for RPG any day of the week, not to mention a 14-22" monitor is nothing compared to my 600hz refresh rate huge hdtv and a computer chair can't compare to my couch or bed, depending on which room I'm gaming in).

I buy the PC versions of the same games, when enough mods justify it. It worked with KoTOR 1 & 2 because they needed more content, especially KoTOR 2 (it was unfinished so they had that project to complete it).

Plain and simple. I'm appreciative I have the best of both worlds, however if I had to choose one place to play this game... it would be on my 360 with my huge hdtv and the 360 controller works great for Bioware rpg's. Using xpadder and controlmk to map your keys and mouse to your controller is full of fail for rpg's, it doesn't work right bcuz the HUD is almost always different.

Nice find, however the female nude mods are much better haha.
