so a ME MMO will be a death warrent to ME series.

Because as we all know, World of Warcraft stopped Blizzard from making Warcraft III.

Wait...

Good thing they didn't ask u wat came first: the chicken or the egg. Warcraft III came before WOW. it gave it it's whole plot and background (and huge fanbase). Does Blizzard even pretending that they are making warcraft 4? There is a huge fanbase waiting for it (many of them are playing WOW). The fact is that to work on and maintain a single player game, u need in average a few dozen employees. The rly big companies have several hundred, usually working on several projects. The famous Bullfrog only had 7 ppl, and made amazing games (before it was devoured by the gigantic EA, who maid crappy sequels to said games). To effectively maintain a successful  MMO, like WOW, u need thousands of ppl just to monitor the different servers, and work on continous patches. In that kind of situation the MMO consume so many resources and manpower, that even unrelated games like diablo III and starcraft II got shelved for the better part of the decade. U think SCII will come out this year? If visited it's homepage and seen the frequency of update (assuming the last update was during this couple of month), you'd know the unofficial moto of SCII has changed from "About time!" to "Abandon hope".
So the question rly is not if ME MMO will kill the franchise (dah), but wat will be the effect of SW:TOR on the rest of BW games?Image IPB

The only reason I can think of for wanting a Mass Effect MMO is as a means of sating one's constant desire for more things Mass Effect. Mass Effect could very likely work as an MMO, but MMOs have a way of souring intellectual properties (due mostly to the communities that form in them, and the rabid power gaming that ensues).

Very insightful. It's rather terrifying the damage that the Warcraft franchise sustained thanks to World of Warcraft. It's hard to believe that the same franchise spawned such masterpieces as Warcraft 2 and 3.

In the same vein, while I'm not opposed to an ME MMO, I'm going to have to see how the KOTOR franchise takes to MMO. I personally believe, at best, it'll walk away with a flesh wound, but I'm willing to be proven wrong.

@tsd16 i'm not going to qoute that half a page long rant. You're idea of the perfect ME MMO: an MMORPG where u can the crappy multiplayer part. Recruitable npc's to so u can avoid getting stuck with a bunch of douches while lfg. Good news! that's called a single player...

I never liked PvP. It's great when u find a worthy opponent near ur lvl. But 99% it's divided between two cases: your fighting someone twice your lvl, that for some reason decided to kick your ass. Or you're fighting some worthless schmock half your lvl, that decided that fighting someone vastly superiour is a good way to earn battle points (or whatever it is they're giving those idiots now)

I like it.

Make it happen.

Well, I do agree that if ME 3 was a MMO, it would be a TERRIBLE IDEA and people suggesting is are ill informed to say the least. I was disappointed when the KOTOR story ended with part 2. Thought there should haved been more closure.

After the trilogy is done, they could use the universe for more things. It's a very interesting universe. But damn, give us a proper ending this time!

ME3 will be single player, if they make a Mass Effect MMO and you are offended by the idea that someone may want to see a Mass Effect MMO...

Interesting that so many mentions of "screaming 8 year olds" would come from someone who wants to have a massive temper tantrum at the thought that someone may want to play a game he or she doesn't want to play. Perhaps if they do make one you can just drive to Edmonton, throw yourself on the ground in their lobby, stamp your feet and scream "ME NOT WANT".

Or maybe you can just not buy a Mass Effect MMO.

"Bioware has never made a multiplayer game" - people who started playing Bioware games with Knights of the Old Republic

I think a Mass Effect MMO could work. I'm always cautious with my video game buys, to the point where I practically only get one new game per year. As it is I probably won't be getting TOR, but we will see what Bioware can achieve.

It's not just a matter of "if u don't like the idea of ME MMO, don't buy it". A ME MMOI, will mean the annihilation of the franchise. Just like WOW as the unholy bastard of the Warcraft series, turned into an all-encompassing ****storm that ravaged every good part of Blizzard, with no real connection to the original series...

The beholders still await to see wat faith will come to BW upon the release of TOR...

Mass Effect is a great universe for a MMO. That said, it would be wiser to wait and see how SW:TOR plays out.

I would love to explore new worlds and fight people with my Turian infiltrator.

I would love to see a MMO for Mass Effect Universe.

But only after they finish Mass Effect 3.

Prove they can do a MMO right with Old Republic.

Or if they can't think of better games to make in the ME U for which I would prefer.

You should be banned for suggesting people with ideas differing from yours should be banned for simply posting them, especially if they do so in an articulate manner.

BTW I would hate the idea of a ME MMO.

I rather see more DLC than a MMO. Or maybe some kind of multi-player mode with more planet to explore. There are still geth, gangs, pirates or rogues out there that have other agenda for world dominance. Races to save, phropeon's ruins to explore for more technology. When ME3 is done with Shepard's story, i still see other stories developing for more adventures.

But as I think of ME-MMO I could see the Sentinel as a tank, Soldier as DPS, Infiltrator as a Rogue DPS, Adapt as your caster/healer and Engineer as support class. ME-guild where your guild hall is the Normandy. Oooohhh, and how about PvP guild battles on the Normandy where each class are stationed like Shepard crew to help keep the ship running in space battles with other ppl? just ideas

If they made an ME ToolKit like they did for Dragon Age so people could create more assignments then there would be plenty of ME to last. However, ME is a perfectly viable MMO verse

In support of the first ammendment, I must reject the concept of banning an individual for suggesting Mass Effect be made into an MMO.   I do however endorse the concept of beating them senseless with their own keyboards.

Its bad enough that I lost KOTOR to this MMO crap.

Banned?? Is that a joke? Their IP addresses should be publically posted and a death squad started to hunt them down. At a minimum.

As long as the franchise didn't suffer from it, I'd love to see Mass Effect become an MMO. Rather than bringing NPC squadmates on missions, I'd have to options to bring actual friends? Sign me up.

Biotic combos would be a heckuva lot cooler if it was two friends pulling it off I think.

1. World of Warcraft lore was awful before WoW. WC1 and WC2 had paper thin stories. WC3 finally started to turn that around, but most of the Warcraft lore was developed thanks to WoW and some books. A ME MMO could really develop the lore and story behind the universe and provide a platform for easily telling new stories in the universe.

2. If you haven't played WoW since 2005-2006, you'd see that Blizzard has done a great job of improving their storytelling. A lot of the new content in Wrath of the Lich King really tells a coherent story. If Bioware can learn from that and improve on it (and if anyone can, it's Bioware), they can really do a great job of storytelling in an MMO. I think that's what they're trying to do with TOR MMO, so let's see how that goes before we cry wolf.

3. Player choices affecting the universe differently is a difficult thing to handle in an MMO. That's probably the biggest challenge; there are some things they could do, but it might be tricky. Without a doubt, they'd need to either set a ME MMO distant enough from the ME trilogy or define a 'canon' story for Shepard. I think if they want to continue to expand the universe (even with new single player RPGs), they will eventually have to define a canon Shepard--that's unavoidable.

4. One of the things you need to learn about free speech is tolerating people with different opinions. Now, free speech isn't a right on Bioware's forums, but I don't think they're going to ban people for posting reasonable opinions.

5. Going by most of the Tali without her mask fanart I've seen, Asari are not space elves--Quarians are.
