Hi all,

I'm starting a new game on Insanity. Or rather, I'm trying to.

I set the game difficulty to "insanity" prior to starting a new game, then I import my level 59 character and go through the opening scene.

However, once I've started the game I check the difficulty setting and it is back to Hardcore...!

If I change it to Insanity immediately after the opening scene of my new game, will I still get the Insanity achievement?

I don't want to screw it up!

Thank you!

I've "heard" that you can still manually set the difficulty setting to Insanity before starting Eden Prime and it should still work, but not having finished an Insanity playthrough myself, I can't verify this.

I've heard the same thing. But I've never had it switch back to hardcore on me. Maybe it's because I've usually started new characters. At level 59 there is not much point to playing on insanity, it's going to be a walk in the park no matter what.

Truthfully I'm only doing it because I want to get level 60 without cheats. I just finished a second playthrough and ended 40K shy of 60, and that was after getting every collectable, mission and nearly every mineral.

Yep just set it manually on the Normandy at the start. Be sure to confirm those options or else it will reset back down to whatever you had it on.

Phew! Thanks a bunch. I would have died twice if I went thorugh this again only to miss out on the Insanity badge.

In this instance, it's not a cheat to use console commands. It's righting a wrong.

Oh, I 1000% agree, but a part of me lives in fear of some notation of it appearing on my character profile at some point in the future... like in ME3 or something. That would drive me nuts.

And besides that, I'm playing this toon as a purist. Tedious, to be sure, but I figure I'll buck-up and do it.

I can't speak for the PC version, but on the 360 version if you set it to insanity while still on the Normandy prior to Eden Prime it will give you credit towards the achievement. I recently finished my first insanity playthrough and it worked perfectly.

Anytime before ending Eden Prime.

As peole say, as long as you change it before leaving Eden Prime then you're ok.

Once you leave Eden Prime you can't change it or you won't get the achievement.
