So with great excitement I got the collectors edition and installed it (not sure why there are two game dvd's when just one is required for installation?)

When I start the game I can see the first loading picture (before any logos and intros and such, then screen gets black and I can hear some stuttering sounds two or three times before it crashes back to windows.

My spec:
Windows Vista 64-bit
Geforce 8800 GTS
4 gb RAM
Creative X-fi Gamer Edition Soundcard
Inter Quad 2.4 ghz

What I have done:

Tried to run on different resolutions
Tried to turn off AA
Tried to play without intros
Tried varios options in the game settings

I have the latest Nvidia drivers, but to ensure it wasn't those who caused it, I have also tried both a beta driver and an older driver, same effect.

My UAC is turned off and I did install with admin rights (and tried to run it as that too)
I tried different compability modes

My PhysX drivers are the latest.

My sound drivers are the latest and I even disabled the sound card to ensure it wasn't the problem.

Windows is up to date.

I have tried to re-install the game.

Im somewhat clueless, anyone else got this problem? Maybe someone might know a solution even?

Thanks for any advice, I feel like I have tried most options out there, but might have forgotten something..:(

I have the EXACT same problem.

Im unable to start the game.. on double clcking the dragon age.exe - I get a black screen - after a few minutes the Bioware logo (blood splattered dragon on the white background) TRIES to come up but it tears there moving one frame at a time every 6 or seven minutes...and eventually freezing!!!

Was wondering if its something to do with the video codecs i have on my system?

I have a Core2 Duo 2.4 GHz 4 GB RAM and 256 MB and NVIDIA GEFORCE 8600M GT with the LATEST drivers!!!

Exactly one contributor to this thread cared enough anout getting an answer to provide information.  The rest were less serious about wanting to play, including today's newest added comment.

PCs are not *anything* at all like game console systems.  That may not be news to you, but many noobs come here for help who have no such idea at all.  There is literally almost nothing that is truly a "standard" between various branded PCs, making the game developers' jobs very difficult, and requiring that warning labels be attached to game boxes for any games with serious requirements.

Recommended Specifications
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz Processor or equivalent
AMD Phenom II X2 Dual-Core 2.7 GHz or greater
RAM: 2 GB (XP) or 3 GB (Windows Vista/Windows 7)
Video: ATI 3850 512 MB or greater
NVIDIA 8800GTS 512 MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
